Definitely lots of precedents for military industrial complexes having run amok since 1945, and arms companies arming both sides was turned into an art form by Krupp and DuPont long before that, but I'm not sure what any of that has to do with the Sunni offensive in Iraq. If anything, in view that they're coming from a position of weakness, it seems like a calculated move centered on increasing evidence the United States is drawing down it forces. What's more, the Sunnis have a now-or-never fear that American negotiations with Iran will radically and finally tilt the political structure of the region against them. And, maybe, with all the recent elections in countries like Afghanistan, Egypt, and Iraq itself creating elected governments unfriendly to jihadists, striking at Shiite self-confidence to hopefully shatter it becomes a risk worth taking, even if the end result is merely consolidating their hold over their own corner of Iraq.

I agree with LWG theories on those last 2 posts, with the exception of I'm more patriotic. I believe we are the biggest and baddest on the block.
