Is ratting legal in any US state?

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by The Keep Book, Aug 18, 2019.

  1. I had a infestation to once Keep Book,if youve read my other stories on "That Flat"..well,thats the flat with the mice.the mice what would let the dog sniff it!...but I took the mice problem with ease,as I no mice and rats wont live together.(ha!wonder why?)..
im saying I wasnt botherd about the mice because the ground floor flat I used to live in before "that flat"had a terrible rat problem. ...
no were near as bad as yours Keep Book.(thank god)and no one got bit,but it was nightmearish all the same.
not only that but the rats caused me great trouble in other areas..i better explain. ..
no one had lived in that ground floor flat when I moved in for some time.but it was on top of a old celler.
with me moving in and cooking a lot,and useing the boiler.ide created a heat sorce.rats love heat!.they love grain to.and with the big sack of dry food sitting there, they now had a food sorce...
every thing out kitchen-fridge,plates the lot.
now the land lord hates dogs right.and ive told him I aint got one.but he finds out, and is quick to say its my dogs food whats drawn them in..witch leads me to take it to hart, tell him to fuck of he aint getting no rent take me to ccourt.and it leads in to a 10 month war of hell with land lord and rats!...

It was that bad the environmental health came out and put a end to it all..
they were persistent tho,and it took many trays of different coloured pellets for months on end before they were gone...and me trapping them to.caught a couple biggens in them traps what break ya back. .and found a few in them glue traps you mentioned, that had alas!-eat parts of them selfs to escape. ..
you could here them of a night, and we had a pit in one room in that flat..this one night were having some sport with the dogs and you could here them rats sqeeking..my friends saying whats that?,,and I said its the rats we keep for the pit aswell lol..
my friend said I was mad but belived me ,and said he new some one with a badger for sale!-i told him to fuck of and I was just joking over the rats lol..

Ha,ha,great flat that.it all came to a end when the law lynched us lol-dogs,plants,lights-no rats lol.

I went back and basically demolished that flat, and I belive no one ever moved in lol..

    Soze.

Been evading me for 2 weeks. Stole the bait without setting off the traps 5 different times but now look at you, eyeball all popped out and shit, blowin blood bubbles out ya snot locker.

    Your kinds not welcome here.

  4. Ha,ha,sounds like the bugger give you the run around. .(if ya still got ferrets, get that dead mouse to them----and get some satisfaction of watching them eat the fucker)...
I hate rats and mice-but your little bit of trapping sure dose indicate how clever rodents are in general.

    Great thread..
I learnt this of Plummer -the maddest rat catcher there ever was...
Acording to Plummer(and I class Plummer as a serious authority on anything to do with rats)the Japanese or Chinese(I forget witch)would capture the enimy and strap this bucket made out of metel to the enimy face.but there was a trap door in the bucket made out of mesh with a starved rat behind it..the enimy would scream with terror, and scare the rat to some degree leaving the rat to back of shitting its self..but after a few days of this the rat would get used to the screams and fuled by hunger would start to try get the enemy lips and eyes and face through the mesh..aparantly there was only a inch gap.and this made the enimy(victom more like)even more terrified..untill after a few days theyd lift the mesh and the starved rat would set to and eat its victims face!

    Horrible tortur or what?!?..

Tho I can think of many fuckers ide like to try it on.

Be careful with plummers info mate the man was a bullshitter mostly who retold other men’s ratting and digging stories as his own.

  8. I agree mate..im not saying that he never streched the truth with his huntung stories.lol,in his Merl book hes standing in snow with lurcher and dead fox and the man aint even got a bit of mud on his shoes lol..
his hunting stories need to be taken with a block of salt lol. .
However the mans genrel history on all dog breeds is brilliant...his knowlege of animals is brilliant to..he new nothing of Bulldogs.but had more then a intrest in them...in his book "Sporting terriers".he donates over 20 pages to the bull terrier breeds..and frequently mentioned them in his other books...
He was also a great naturalest.

Now im not a terrier guy..but that man still created his own breed of terrier.
I dont now how them dogs are to be honest..
but with you saying you hunt rat..mate there lots of vids on you tube of his dogs on rats.and they seem awesome mate...
if I was a rat hunter I would most definitely CONSIDER them tykes. .
have you ever seen any Lrs?.
they look like super little hunters.

Do you have a preference to any type of terrier for rats?..
all terriers should be called on to kill rats I believe. .even womans pet mop ones....but do you prefair any type in particular?

My mate told him a story once about a local old gypsy who lived in a tiny vadre with his missus and some kind of hawk, anyway next thing he was reading one of plummers books and the story is in there ,but plummer altered it to suit his self,i think it was off the beaten track but not certain.Though i have to say i did used to love his books, just take them with a pinch of salt of course.I still got my favourite 3,The fell terrier, rogues and running dogs, and hunters all.Nathan was a good read as well.

  10. Yeah some of his stuff is crazy. ..
the fell terrier book is brilliant.
Nathen is also brilliant, but I belive Plummer took most of his info for that book of reading fighting sports by fitz Barnard.(another one of my all time favourites as it happens).
there is no story like you said in of the beaten track-but theres plenty of shit in it lol.
he was most certainly curious about gypsies, dog fighting, cock fighting, and any other essentric topics really..

I like the way he created his own type of terrier really.
He understood genetics to some degree I have to say,and I enjoy reading his breeding records of the breeding of his own type of terrier..
he fixed his type rather easy-any one could do it..fix a type by looks I mean any one could do..to fix a type and still retain the working instincts is no easy task at all..and the only way to do that is to work hard..ide be intrested to no if his terriers are doing good?-ive seen videos on YouTube of them and they catch rats at the most craziest angles.have a look!
Ive read in the sporting papers that his dogs wont enter to fox...now im no fox hunter or no rat hunter, but it seems logical that if your hunting rats with a few dogs, that you dont want the dogs disappearing down earths...as I said I dont hunt rats.but theres plenty on the farms around.and to hunt them round here it would be madness to use dogs what will run to ground at any givin chance.as also all around the farms are huge setts and it would be a nightmare if one was hunting rats and the dogs went to ground in these setts-not just cause the law.but becuse these setts are so big it would be impossible to get your dog out.
witch I could imagine to be a nightmare. .
dose any of you rat hunters have this problem?-just curios.

Rat hunting with terriers is serious sport what should be practice as much as possible.

    Dogs for jobs!

His type do well on rats mate because that’s what the breeders are aiming for. They do have a slight edge in numbers of rats but that’s down to them being there main quarry. Most people who breed other terrier types dig to there dogs rats are to fill the time in between. My own terriers are bred for bushing all types they can catch in uk fields there’s a dash off English bull in them from way back but all white terriers from cork do. I added a bull terrier x staff about 6 years ago.

I cracked up laughing when I first saw your pic from my cell phone. It looked like the mouse was laying on the floor in front of the dog. It made me think I was looking at a mouse the size of your dog. Lol!

He did stretch the truth when it came to actual stories, change names etc and write other mens exploits as his own, however he was a true academic, and there was also a lot of true fact in his books as well .A lot of people dont know this but he wrote a book on lurchers and another on terriers under another name, Michael shaw if i remember right, the money he made from those two books he apparently gave to the striking miners fund.on the back of that alone i would happily shake the mans hand and buy him a pint.

Those white cork dogs are identical to the dogs my grandfather and uncles worked, russell sealyham types.lots of other terriermen in my area as well ,then by the late seventies early eighties, they all went over to the patts.I got my first dog when i was 7,he was a hard as nails patterdale.

Eye mate I think the black dogs have proven themselves better under sod and if digging was all I wanted then they can’t be beat unless you don’t like hard terriers and unless you work for a pack I can’t see why.

Anyone who supported the miners strike (financially or morally) is a brother in my estimation.. First Plummer book I read was called 'Off the beaten track' a good insight for me into a life I had never experienced before.. Bought his books when Exchange & Mart was the only place a city boy like me could really buy that kind of stuff.. The man could tell a story that's for sure.

There was nothing wrong with those white dogs either Lrs,i didnt mean to give that impression, they dug everything with them ,just some like my uncle preferred a harder type ,and the patterdales became more fashionable.Funny thing is though a lot of those white dogs lived well into old age, hardly any of his black dogs did.we all know why,but it makes you wonder which were the better dogs.If i was hunt terrierman today working them day in day out i know what type id prefer.

  20. I need to reply to a few here and me phone is shit,so bear with me....
thanks for the info Lrs.i like your style..them white cork terriers you speak of (check jonny blucks book out"terriers and terrier men of Ireland-alot of them white body terriers came to Ireland from Wales)..its curious, but thats the same type of terrier Plummer started of with but changed it into his plummers..its also curious that dogs of this very same type still exsist in Wales to this day.white, most have loose broken coats, long body, short legs, rather long muzzles...now with you saying you do a bit of bushing. Well the dogs I seen of this type were pretty phanomanl bushing dogs..they were refaird to by there owners as Jack Russell or Parsons..witch I found baffling-as this types existed for moons and is more on the lines of the old Sealeams(witch were also from Wales)...

Stedz I did no about the Michel Shaw thing but was always confused as to why plummer did that..with you saying about the miners my respect has doubled for Plummer. .

And Old Guy ive got of the beaten track--do you remember that story in that book about Tim Corrington?"and under his arm the pride of them all,,a bitch that would bite a hole through a wall".....plummer says the ryme is from a old black Country poem of a dog fight in sewege street...but im unable to find that poem..
you seem to no your stuff of Midlands history Stedz...do you no this poem?

Lrs were did you find a real EBT?...was the cross successful?.....It keeps to the type it is becuse thats how them cork dogs were bread .mostly sealeam in apperence with out crosses to EBT...

    Keep it up!..
    yis
