I agree a semi auto .22 is about as fun as it gets! We only have muskrats in my province there a water type there fine don't bother anything they have a nice pelt from late September to early April. My province believe it or not is rat free we have had rat patrol since the 1950's the only report of a rat I can remember some guy got caught sneaking in a bunch to feed to his snake. We got mice though!

  5. @David63,that sounds awesome shooting them rats!..you know your dogs and your hunting!.keep it up brother!....
@Keepbook,that sounds terrifying being invaded by so many rats..and your right!.rats can bite hard..ive seen a doe rat with young scrape the eye clean out the socket of a jill(female) ferret what had killed and bolted hundreds of rats..the jill ferret died a day or so later..

Its intresting to note that the Zebo fucker is actually sticking up for rats!...well folks, what dose that say about the person?
Hes not a robot as I thought, but a fucking inbred kid fucker thats more arsed about rats then humans!...

    @ Keepbook....
after I seen the eye scraped out of ferret by rat I started to look more into rats...hey,remember the Victoria rat pits?dogs (fighting blooded dogs)called on to kill up to a hundred rats in a pit..no easy feat whatsoever.Because the dog is gonna get bit by most of the fuckers...but I started to look more into dogs killing rats...and I got that wierd but fascinating book by Brian Plummer:Tales of a rat hunting man.1979.get it..its cheap enough.
Ill leave you with a quote:
Not from the tales of a rat hunting man book..but from a book even earlier..
    Fitz Barnard:Fighting Sports 1920.
The busbusiness-dog is also used for rat-killing...terriers can kill rats, but they can seldom kill against a fighting dog;moreover, very few terriers will face thirty or forty rats in a pit.

Soze: Dead right. It doesn't surprise me at all that rats would chew the eye out of a ferret. I caught (at least) two rats in a glue trap. When I checked the trap there was only one rat on it, but I could see the fur left behind by another rat caught on the same trap. The missing rat had escaped by eating part of the rat that was still stuck to the trap, probably while the stuck rat was alive. Half of the remaining rat's abdomen had that semicircular rat-chewed look, with blood. I'd seen cannibalism in mice but this was the first time I had seen it in rats. That was some nasty shit. I felt no pity for the cannibalized rat, in fact I wished I had bludgeoned both of them to death with my trusty shovel.

I gotta get that Plummer book. The Fanatical Animal Rights Terrorists who think rats are poor helpless cuddly critters, never have been chewed on by a rat. They would quickly change their tune if even one rat sank its ever-growing rodent incisors into their arm.

Check out this video and article about the rat plague in New Zealand. One of the worst environmental sins is introducing non-native species to established island ecosystems. (Australia is facing a similar invasion of introduced rodents.)

Who ever thinks wild rats are nice can go f**k off. I rat around rubbish tips and manure piles on farms. There a plague that needs pushing in to the ocean.

I once visited a farm where a man kept his dogs, the owner also had KC approved dogs for peddling to the public.. Inside the barn was kennel runs where KC registered females nursed litters of Cairn terriers, Papillion's and Spaniels.. Where ever I walked, the rats ran across my feet and all over the pups, the bitches that was nursing them had this crazy, wide eyed stare like they were driven mad by constant harassment and antagonising of filthy, infected rats stealing the cheap shit kibble out of their food bowls and maybe killing the puppies too, who knows? If ever they had the will to kill them vile bastards, then they'd given up long ago.. What I saw that day was nearest thing to hell I ever witnessed.. Killing rats is like recycling plastic.. It's good for the earth!

For each rat you kill, the environment is grateful.

And FUCK puppy mill breeders. They deserve to be eaten alive by rats.

A terrier that refuses to kill a rat would be the saddest thing to see. To hell with someone who allows that to happen. But totally agree kill them however and as often as you can. It’s also one of the few animals I support mass extermination off.

I can think of some 2 legged rats I would like to see exterminated too.

I have to disagree.. I dont think humans should exterminate any specie that's indigenous to earth.. only aliens lol. Reptiles need them rats like we need cattle sheep and chickens. Control but never exterminate. U cant hate authorities/ government then also support extermination of an entire specie ..
Virus on tbe other hand.. Although they are living creatures.. I have no problem see them exterminated. Hypocritical I know

Lol can see where your coming from but I’m uk based so no wild animals really depends on rats here we’re mostly reptile free too.

You are right there will always be reptiles and rats just not around my property.

Not hypocritical at all. I don't think any organism in its natural habitat ought to be eradicated. I am for eradicating invasive introduced species that damage established ecosystems, like feral hogs, zebra mussels, Eucalyptus trees and kudzu. Island species that were rare from the start have been driven to extinction by humans introducing non-native species, which I think is tragic. :((

  18. This is a great thread:
Keep book your right, most dominant rats(and they all seem dominant)are more then a little canbilistic.witch is a bit of a understatement,as theres proof that rats will eat bits of each other and even all of each other..they quite happily take legs of duckilings and leave them half alive.they are gross.
and Old Guy ill bet they most defo took a pup from that vile place you just said..the grain/kibble would of most definitely drawed them in..for them to find other things lol.

Lrs a terrier what wont face a rat is the most sorriest cull ever..and its a great discrase for any breed of terrier to not take to ratting(even tho theres many that don't. I might add)..its a great shame theres breeds of terrier that have lost there sporting instinct.

I had a white pet rat once.proper tame.
eat out yer mouth..a big fucker. .lived for years.
bit fuck out me thumb one day.went mad and locked on like a crazy bulldog.!...tthe misses says I wont need a tetnis coz its not wild..but I was sick as fuck for a full three days ya know..llike I had the flu and fevers...

Ide never keep a beast lije that for pet again. .throw one to the ferrets tho.

    Rats are vile.

I miss having ferrets, awesome pets, very clever and mischievous animals. upkeep to keep their smell down was a never ending chore though.

Never owned a rat. I never really looked at rodents as anything other than pests or vermin that get merked on sight.

  20. Im a fucking nut for even keeping a tame one..this one lived nearly five bastard years.got this tumour that went huge.I wanted to stamp on the brute as much as I new the thing.but the misses was having none..took it vet, burried the brute, and there was tears all round(tears of joy in my eyes)...
I still couldent hold back the jokes of how nutritional rat meet is for ferrets tho lol...
I wanted to stamp him when bit my thumb.(Let some ferrets eat him alive more like)but he was to brave.wed always turn him loose in the house.and hed charge the cat's! ide be praying for one of the cowards to shred him..but they always backed of lol..
he was a warrior and when he was younger we tryed to keep other male rats in his cage.hed eat them.

    But rats are vile.
Ferrets are super awesome.Alot better to have round as a pet rather then a rat llol.
