Is it possible to improve the percentage of one bloodline? say through breeding it with another higher percentage bloodline? and result in long term sustainability of higher percentage of wanted bloodline?

I tried, but after years... ended up not having any significant improvements with it. Anyone else have better luck?

    Please share your opinions

Do you mean improving the % of good dogs coming out of the litter?

It all depends on the bloodline that you are working with.

Like rose said depends on what bloodline you have ,if you have the right base dogs it makes it a lot easier.

I have learned ways to get about a 70% ratio.

I should have been more clear, so I have this line that known to produce exceptional dogs but on the low side of the percentage spectrum. Thus, I've been playing the line with higher producing average. After years of work, I still haven't managed to make much of a difference.

I'll be glad to hear everyone opinions... thanks

Let me see the ped that you are trying to improve. I will give you my opinion if you want to hear it. I am super picky though, so don't take offense.

Selection of the "right" dogs to breed on is key.

What do you mean specifically 'scratching dog'?

Are you saying if I breed the right dog to the good line that throw quality dogs at low percentage, I would achieve an increase in the same fine quality dogs but higher in percentage?

I have tried... though I can't seem to increase the numbers, each liters came out more or less the same number of good pit dogs over time... so I'm wondering has anyone had the same result

i think it depends on the dogs you use. the reason some bloodlines are used more than others is because they tend to throw higher percentages and higher quality dogs. you only want to breed a dog that is what you want to reproduce in the pups. if your dont breed high quality dogs you arent gonna get high qualit pups

How tightly do you want your line to be bred? A little hybrid vigor can sometimes be a good infusion to a program.
