I thought Shula did OK. His problem was that in that part of the world winning is an absolute. There is no second place. I think Shula had a plan similar to that of Saban, brought in kids that did not fit the previous regime and then did not have enough time to put it all together. Maybe that is giving a little more than the benefit of the doubt. He had the same kids Saban looks for there when Saban arrived. I think Saban benefitted from that. Shula was no Bear but he did not have the time in that 'win now, no matter' world of football.

I am not trashing on Saban or Meyer. Both are the elite of their profession. I think the SEC schools have to ramp it up just to keep up in the conference and then that creates separation from the rest of college football. They have talent rich states, they have elite programs that have become direct links to the NFL and it times in seems unfair.

What I do like about Meyer is that he will get the traditional recruits from the Midwest but he should be able to tap into the SEC dominated recruiting areas and pick up top talent. OSU is definitely on the rise. In time the Big Ten will step it up. Same with the SEC. S

Slim Steve Spurier changed the SEC back in the 90 s..SEC teams had to catch up.Now Saban has changed it and thats why your seeing the spread come to the SEC .Its to beat Saban. You wanna hear something funny? No SEC team will be in the title game this year.First time in what 8 yrs.Now does that mean the SEC fell off? Nope ..competiton was so stiff we just beat each other up this year. The playoff system will actually help the SEC next year when most wanted it to hurt them. And I dont think Meyer will get too much out of SEC country as far as recruits. Most of these kids dont like cold weather and being that far from mama. But he will get some,,,but hey every team in the country gets some from SEC country..Reason why?its just too many to keep em all.

Well said. I think in the present day land of college football the SEC is the odds on favorite to win the title every year (Alabama) and it takes only one slip up (Auburn, Auburn, A&M, SC, LSU over the last five years, Florida over the last five or six years) to keep out Alabama. Then factor in the teams that trip up the Tide will now be in team hunt, along with the Tide, and two of four, will be SEC teams. My thoughts is that it has created a SEC championship game in early December and a SEC national title game in January. This year would be FSU/Alabama and Auburn/OSU in the first round and a good possibility Auburn/Alabama repeat. Missouri and Auburn would flip flop depending on the SEC title game tomorrow but the end result would be the same SEC vs. SEC for the title.

Agree with the Spurrier comment. The SEC was a lot like the rest of the college football world. Line up, punch in the mouth and see who is still punching late. For me, it was a beautiful game. It is like he re-invented the forward pass. But Spurrier gets too much offensive credit and not any speak of the defensive teams he had at Florida. They didn't give up much, got the ball back and the offense scored a lot.

Speaking of Spurrier, he would have been a success at Washington if Marvin Lewis had remained the D-coordinator for another couple of years. He would have built a defense in Washington like he did in Baltimore. The ol' ball coach needed the ball on offense and that Washington defense could not do that. S

Spurier is a great coach..U realize he is just a couple of plays away from being in the big game..He still a great coach and thier is plenty of talent on that SC team..They are very close to being there. That SC team could beat any team in the country including Bama..They are really ,really close to being elite..Talent wise they are there.

I dont think Spurier has found that Danny Wuerfel type QB yet .And I think he is over due.If he gets that type of QB he will win atleast one more title bfore he retires.Connor Shaw is good but he isnt that pure ,witty passer that plugs in like your Danny Wuerfel.

Urban runs deep in fl and thats really all he needs from sec states. The other is that ohst is a national recruiting pool with many pipelines.

I think Urban will be able to tap into the SEC recruiting pool. No doubts. I agree OSU is one of the prestigious schools who can get a ton of the good ones. I think in the next year or so you will see OSU team speed increase and you will see a lot more athleticism up front on both sides of the ball. I think OSU will be better next year and even better the year following in comparison to this year.

Ten years from now we will be talking about Meyer and how he forced the Big Ten to change. Just to keep up. S

Yall realize we do have a great potential match up with FSU vs OSU..You have 2 diff styles .The spread of OSU against the Pro set of FSU..This does have the potential of a classic..Its hard for me to judge being a SEC fan because I just havent saw enough of those 2 teams. But as far as diff styles...it could be a classic if thier both as good as people think.

I think Florida State is the better team. It will be contrasting offensive styles. I am thinking the defensive side of the ball will be the key. Florida State has not given up anything defensively all year. Their offense puts up numbers so quickly the defense only has to play downhill, all out, no worries with risk and reward. Ohio State's defense has given up a lot of points and yards.

I am hoping for a good game, regardless. It would be great to see OSU get out front early to change up the FSU defense and see if that prolific offense can play from behind. That is my hope. My reality is that I think FSU rolls. S

We will see Slim.I like FSU also..OSU has not faced a team with as much speed as FSU.

But now if u want to talk recruiting watch the master.Nick Saban has the top 3 recruits in the state of Louisiana comitted to the Tide..Thats the best 3 players our of Les Myles backyard..He also got the the number 1 prostyle QB in the country out of Oklahoma s back yard.Thats not all..But you talk about recruiting nationally? thier is none better than Saban at the moment.AJ is a senior so he is gone..This kid from Oklahoma and Jack Del Rio son will be battling it out for the QB spot next year.

Saban is most definitely the best recruiter in all of America. He has the best to offer. We win National titles and we puts kids in the pros. I think his best quality is he can sell a recruit on playing behind someone at Alabama when he could start/impact at a lot of other schools. That is a tough sale in todays world.

Marshall just walked Auburn down the field. He is the best read-option guy I have seen. And that left tackle is a beast. S

I have said for a number of weeks I thought Florida State was the most impressive team. I thought Alabama was the best team. I discounted OSU because of the schedule and fact they did not dominate thru the undefeated season. After yesterday/last night. I think the two best teams in the country played the National title last night and it just had another name, SEC Championship. For the same reasons I picked Auburn as the #2 over OSU, I will pick Auburn over FSU in the title game. Strength of schedule. Playing in close games. Playing from behind.

It should be a doozy. As an ACC guy I will be with Florida State, as a college football fan I appreciate anything that makes it out of the gauntlet called the SEC, but when I call in that morning it will be with my brain, not my heart. Auburn is the best team in the country. S

Shit just got real Slim..Florida State would have F ed Ohio State up..And I am picking Auburn also.Fla St cant stop them and no other team in the country can..And it really shows you how good Alabama realy is .Auburn had 2 weeks to prepare for Bama plus we had to play them on thier own field..Hats off to Auburn.Do yall realize if Auburn beats FSU this will be the 4th national title in a row for the state of Alabama..Unheard of ,never dreamed I would ever see somethin like this.
