I would like to introduce you to Choxie, the newest member to our family!

Choxie is three years old. Some of you might even know where and who we got her from. To those of you who are thinking of buying a dog off of his yard, you might want to request a full health check up before forking over any cash, if you care anything about the dog, that is.

So, here she is, Miss Choxie, the nicest looking dog on her former owner's yard. Pretty, isn't she?

Take a closer look. These pictures were taken a week after we acquired her.

Her first vet visit was Wednesday, and it cost us over $300. She had to be updated on all of her vaccinations, she had her heartworm test, we bought some Comfortis and a tick collar.

She had hookworms, and was dewormed. Her ears were irritated, we have ear cleaner.

She's has a lot of hair loss, with papules and pustules. Basically caused by a major flea infestation. She may be allergic to flea bites. Her lymph nodes are swollen, as a possible reaction to the flea infestation. She has a skin infection, and needs to be bathed every other day, for the next two weeks. She also has an antibiotic for the infection.

She's an awesome dog. She's fun, she's curious, she learns how to play by watching my dogs.
Today we got confirmation that this sweet girl is heartworm positive. You see, her former owner didn't treat his dogs for heartworm.

Tomorrow she goes in for her first treatment, so, some positive thoughts for Miss Choxie sure would be appreciated.

    ~Thank you

    Good luck with the treatments.

that is yet another reason that I'm in favor of selective culling of dog owners

Preventic Tick Collars. It's what I use. Cuz I like to use Comfortis for fleas, it's the best flea preventative IMO, but it's doesn't cover ticks. Those tick collars work super well. I took Disco hiking a couple weeks ago, he came back covered in ticks. So I put the tick collar on him (I had forgotten to put it on him before we went) and it killed and detached them all.

Oh, and good luck to you with Choxie! I'm sure you'll get her back on the road to recovery soon. She will be beautiful once she gets her hair back. Are yall going to treat the HW infestation?

Always Lauriehelping me out ... Thanks Girl... You are gonna make a man Proud one day! such a great girl. But i never knew Disco came back covered with ticks? Isit prescription or something? i def need one for when i start hitting the woods again. Willit keep the ticks off? Yall must have em pretty bad . How many did he have on em ? And if the tick collar was on him the first time , do you think it would have prevented the ticks from coming on?

    Awww... thanks Trav :o:dogkiss:
Yeah, it's because we went thru a pine thicket on a horse trail. we all got ticks. ugh. Disco had 3 or 4 regular big ticks, but it was the little tiny seed ticks that were the problem. He had them all in his feet and on his chest. And yeah, if I'd had the collar on him, the ticks would have either jumped off or been killed before they could attach on the ride home. In the past when I've used them, I never see any ticks on the dogs. Too bad I can't use them for myself, lol. An no, it's not prescription. I buy mine at the vet's office, but some specialty pet stores carry them. I'm sure you could call around to vet's offices or pet stores to see who carries them and for what price. One collar lasts up to 3 months.

Thanks everyone, for the kind words and well wishes for Choxie!

We're treating her for the heartworm, her first treatment is today, she's at the vet's office now, as her first treatment requires a full day's observation.

That is the tick collar we are using, just remember to take it off when you bathe your dog!

  17. Well?? Since you're putting Marty on blast, and rightfully so the condition of that dog is pitiful, I think it's a fair question.
