Intro and question

Hi everybody,
I'm new here so I figured I'd introduce myself to the board. First off, let me say Great sight, I've been looking for a Pit Bull board for a while and actually got suckered into a "General Pet's" board with not one member owning a Pitbull (most owned cats and birds). lol! Oh well. Anyways I have an American Pitbull, Cane a.k.a Hurricane. He'll be 4 months old next week. I'm not an expert on Pit bulls, however I do have some knowledge of dogs as I've owned a pit, a Rotti, and a Bull Mastiff. I was wondering what the avg weight of an Am Pit was at four months old? I've seen posts saying 30 lbs, and then again I've seen some saying their's was almost 50 lbs. Mine's only 30 lbs, but the vet says he's big for his age. I dunno, he's healthy and looks great, so size isn't necessarily an issue, I was just curios as to how big he was going to get. Thanks

Welcome to the board...size of the pup would greatly depend on size of the dogs from the line and how well the dog is being taken care of. Most of my dogs, full grown are low 30s to low 40s, so a 50lb pup would be a bit much for me...

Welcome to the board. The size of a pit differs, because of the way they are bred, I only have one dog over 50lbs, but thats because he's fat right now and he's 20 mos. Some dogs pick up weight quick and then slow down, some start slow and pick up later. Good luck with your dogs.

 

BBK do you have pics of your pits? I'd like to compare their size to mine. I wish I could see Cane's parents, but unfortunately I think he was the result of BYB. Nothing I had to do with, I found him in the paper and took him home for 50 dollars. Can you believe that, an AM Pit for 50 bucks. The previous owners said he was a gift from someone else but they didn't want him because they couldn't register him. Anyways thanks for your input.

 

Nevermind BBK, I found your sight. I Can't believe their only about 10lbs heavier than my pup! They look great!

Welcome to the site glad to to hear from you, I've done alot of research on pitbulls in the 2 years and still learning and plan to learn for years to come. But one thing I've learned is that people like all differant size pitbulls and breeders wuill breed to get that size for the people. I have a 3.5 month old pup that 21 lbs. but we are always playing and doing things intha house like playing chase that has put mucles on her and I feed her well. But her mom was a big female about 20 inches tall and 75 lbs. her dad was 19 inches tall and about 70 lbs. and she was the biggest pup of the litter. What are you feeding her? And good good luck with her don't be afaird to ask question. I would rather the bred be alive the dead.

 

Hi Carson, I'm feeding him Exclusive, w chicken and Rice as the main ingredients. He's really tall, and kind of still has that lanky look to him. He's by no means under weight I guess he's just still growing taller. I have a feeling he's going to be tall like your pups parents.

 

also a pit want fully develop until about 1 1/2 to 2 years old and will go threw alot of changes in weight and height.So just keep a good eye on him. And last night night I got introduced to a new dog food call Canidae it is made out of all the things your dogs made need go http://www.canidae.com/

Welcome to the site. youre right there is alot of information added on this site evderyday and all of it useful. sounds like your is doing fine. Like others have said the size and weight of your pup depends alot on the parents. Here is a picture of one of my pups that is 8 months old and probally weighs in about 35 lbs or maybe a little more.

 

Man you have a nice dog. How is it bred? Do you have a website?
