Not that I can remember, as I said I think its the cats, a friend was over the other day (and is here every week has his own dogs none sick) waiting my return and when I got home he said one of the cats was sick and not moving around much, he had to walk right up to the cat before it moved, I guess I should call AC to have them remove the damn things but I hate to call them out :(

Edit... Well maybe not then, CynthiaATL thanks for that info ;)

Feline panleukopenia is very contagious to cats. And it is in the same family as the canine parvo virus. You can actually use a canine parvo test on cats to test for panleuk.

I would call AC and have them removed. I would not want sick cats on my property.

Well I didn't get to take pics of AVA tonight but I put Jr on the chain one day before parvo hit to get him used to it... I have to separate these pups, jr weighted in at 61lbs at the vets (can we say obsessed) he's really unhealthy at this weight but he's been hogging all the feed... here's the pics...

    Nice post Cynthia!
Marty, although the cats are not parvo carriers, due to being a different species, they COULD have, for example, stepped into a yard that had the diesease present, and carried some infected stool on their paws and hence, into your yard. Although fecal-oral transmission is the most common way of catching the disease (when one dog sniffs another's butt) the indirect way of spreading it (on the cat's paws) is very likely, due to all the feral cats i recall seeing roaming around your yard. i, too, would call AC out to your properety and have them set some traps. i have several ferral cats around my property, due to being around the woods, and they are nothing short of troublesome and annoying.

Best of luck with the little ones~speedy recovery!

  7. Wow, how time flies. Jr is one chubby pup!

Well, i hope AVA gets better sooner than later and you get her back home.

I agree with someone's suggestion regarding vaccination date. Make it on a holiday or birthday. It will be harder to forget this way.

i had a dog that got parvo.
she didnt even spent one night there, i took her home, if she would died i would prefer her to died at home rather than in a cage at the vet.
so took her home, gave what the vet prescribred, gave water every30 min or so..few days later she was ok.
i took my dog to the vet a bit late, took care of her at home and still she made it, im confident that your dog will make it too

i heard about recovering dogs that got parvo with meat?
    anyone can devolop that?
    thanks

Well you were lucky. DO you mean giving water by mouth? Or fluids IV or SQ? Because a dog with parvo can not take anything by mouth. They will just vommit it up. And that defeats the purpose. Now the Vet I work for here in FL will let owners take the dogs home with a IV cath and fluids and meds. With instructions. And she has had a good success rate. It is usually more cost effective to the owners that way. However if it was my dog and I was not a Vet Tech I would let my dog stay in the hospital. But that is JMO.

I have not heard of Parvo in meat. Parvo spores are very hardy. They an last for years in the environment. It was be brought into your environment by another animal, you, washing in from rain. Alot of ways. The best protection is getting you animal vaccinated properly. And limiting the exposure to unknown areas. Getting your vaccinations from a reliable source. Make sure they follow proper handling of them. And even though you do everything right there is always a possibilty. That is a scary part. Marty you vaccinated them (series) as pups and they still got parvo as older dogs.

wow, you were very lucky then. agreed, due to dogs with parvo throwing up, administering sub-Q fluids ensures their bodies stay hydrated.
quite the dedication~every 1/2 hour. glad it paid off for you.
and Marty, prayers en route for the lil guy (who's actually not so little, any more)...

    Marty,

I wanted you to know. Birds and squirrells carry parvo. and majority of the time, that is where the dogs pick it up. I found this out when one of by bitches was young. She went outside and killed a bird, and had began to eat it. I caught her and took the bird away. well, needless to say, about a week and a half later she came down with parvo. The vet asked if she had eaten any squirrells or birds. and i told him yes. he then told me that's most likely where she got it from.
