Don't condition your puppy. Dogs shouldn't be conditioned until they're at least a year old. Many say 18 months. Exercise is great for any dog, but don't overload him with hard work.

In his pedigree got alot of AKC stuff in the 7th and 6th generation and UKC in the 5th and 4th generation and ADBA in the first three generations. So ......can some explain how or why they bred like that and changed registries twice?????

If there's AKC blood behind your dog, it basically means he's a POS (Pit-or-Staff). You can take an AKC AmStaff and register it UKC and ADBA as a Pit Bull. There are a lot of dual-registered UKC/ADBA APBTs, too.

But i though they are considered two different breeds now????? So why do they let them do that???

Whether they're 2 different breeds is so open to interpretation it isn't even funny.

You can take an AmStaff and get APBT papers on it. But you can't take an APBT and go register it as an AmStaff. So from the registry standpoint: AKC says they're different, UKC and ADBA figure they're the same. Even with the AKC, they started with APBTs in the 1930s, and then they opened the stud books to APBTs for a while again in the 70s. So AKC AmStaffs are descended from APBTs, and have had APBT blood reintroduced as recently as like 30 years ago.

From a another standpoint, a good gamebred dog is unlikely to be the same dog as a good AmStaff. A good showbred APBT may look a little more like an AmStaff than the first example. Then again, there are AmStaffs like the Gaff dogs that are big and bully, and then there are AmStaffs like X-pert and Hartagold that are bred to a more moderate standard. Condition one of the latter down and you might not be able to tell the difference between it and an ADBA Pit Bull.

Then there's the issue of color. The AKC doesn't like rednose dogs, tricolor dogs, and since the nose is supposed to be black, they really don't even like the blue dogs. However, it's generally said that blue dogs come from AmStaff (AKC) blood. Then when you're looking at a rednose dog, the presumption is that it must be an APBT. But rednose dogs can have an APBT look or an AmStaffy look, depending.

So the short answer is, there is no clear answer. If you're talking about someone breeding AmStaffs for performance sports, they can be every bit as Pit Bull as the APBTs are. But that doesn't mean that those dogs are representative of the AmStaff as a whole. Sometimes they're the same, probably more often they're different. It's about as clear as mud.

I remeber a lady wanted to stud to my blue dog until she found out it had AKC dogs in the ped. She said game dog men didnt like Am Staffs.

The above dogs are looking real good. I've seen shaped blues and staffs win. The above members gave you good advice. I like to keep my pack within a few pounds of show weight at all times. No over feeding here and they tend to stay real healthy too.
Onionhead, I-Kon's got that Sorrells look, good luck with him.

  11. Honestly just constant exercise should get your dog beasty. i play fetch with my dude everyday for 2 30 minutes sessions with no weights he sprints each throw bout 40 yards. i just keep him running and playing tug of war and then he does work on his Spring pole bout 5ft off the ground.

if hes too young, be careful, a dogs lower jaw isnt completely developed until around 18 mos, remember less is more, also pay attention to your dogs heart rate at maximum stress. this means if you go too far forward you will fall backwards, kinda tricky but thats the gist, protien and carbs, when yer dogs runnin hot, you will do damage unless there is something there for the body to take from after the body has spent carbs, thats where you see show dogs too skinny and ribby, use oils flax seed coconut oil etc, so the body doesnt take from the muscles. thats a start
