i'm glad you joined, if anyone has any confusions about the proper way to keep and care for a bulldog they can just take all the advice you've given and do the complete opposite.

its cool, let people use the methods they wanna use. People dont understand how dogs work and think. Its about a pecking order, starts with verbal then turns physical. They wanna humanize dogs but they arent human. My way has worked for years, im not gonna stop doing something that has gotten good results.

pup won't understand what no means unless you say no and at the same time a LITTLE swat... remember its only 7 weeks, you don't want to knock it across the room, but you want it to know the difference between a petting and a swat. there will come a time the swat is not needed anymore because it will have learned that "no" means your not pleased with it and you are able to follow that no up with something it will not like. BUT don't go overboard with the swatting or you might end up with a hand shy dog. BALANCE is the key as with everything else, you have a good balance you got a good dog.

All you need to do is establish your role as alpha. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BEAT A DOG FOR THIS. I don't think there is anything wrong with a light smack to get the dog's attention. If you outright beat your dog, it is because you are a piece of shit who is too damn ignorant to figure out the proper and effective ways to train your dog. Seriously, how much of a pussy do you have to be to take out your aggression on your dog?

maybe you should try it this evening.... not sure what time it is where you are but i'm on the east coast and its only just after two in the afternoon here.... try her again this evening for supper and see what she does. Tommy its not about aggression its about disapline. I've never had to "alpha roll" a dog. Its not a true alpha roll if you have to "hold them down" the should willingly do it. Other dogs don't forcefully hold another dog down to show dominance (generally because admittedly some do) and everything is not a battle of wills with dogs, everything is not either dominance or submission. Sometimes it just doesn't know how to act so give it a little tap, (not even enough to make it yelp) to let it know that that behavior is not acceptable. Y'all are confusing what we are saying with a knock down drag out. Have you ever tripped over a pup.... well the swat I'm talking about is LESS than that.

    to the sensitive people

i had same problem, at one point he was face to face to me and i felt he would jump on me..i remember the story of dogmen traveling with dog and one played with the dogs balls to prevent him to attack (bullyson?)..i felt in danger so i tried it even went oral, it worked, now im his beach and i love it ;)

    folks go hug a tree

    now seriously
    Yardboy
sometimes my boy gets mad when dogs come near his food bowl
    he charges and growls

once he was eating bone with meat in a friends house in rural area, we had to go away, so i picked it to throw it away and get the dog to get in the car.
well he growled at me, i slaped him (not really hard), it was more like a psicological slap, he never did it again, he continues to do it with dogs but ok with people, im shure that if i wouldent stop it in the begging he would develop more dominance thorwards people.

so to me there is no wrong in showing to the dog that that is not ok

it takes a lot more than a pop to hurt a bulldog or just about any reasonably sized dog for that matter. its more psychological than anything. trust me your hand will hurt more than the dog but he/she will get the message

Okay, two different people are having the same issue, one with a pup and one with a grown dog. You with the grown dog, I'm not sure what her being a house dog has to do with having a come to jesus moment with her but whatever..... SHE should already know the meaning of no so you shouldn't HAVE to beat her. With her being that she's a three year old house dog (so she should have had house manners for three years and just needs a reminder) say no take the food until next feeding time. wash rinse repeat until behavior stops, then test. play in her food while she's eating (with a stick or something just in case) and go from there.

The way some of these people's dogs be acting.... I would have choked the hell out of em.... made em swear i was killin them. hell don't play with me who do you think YOU'RE growling at. I'm the one who feeds you who gives you water I do everything for you and if I wanted I would end your life. (kinda like the speech your mama gave you) I brought you in this world and I can take you out.

How y'all think things were done before AR and H$U$ started brainwashing people about how "fragile" dogs are and how we shouldn't beat them (shouldn't beat kids neither and look at the youth of today) where you think the term "he got beat like a dog" came from and yet they are still alive still here and still our friends. (NOT fur kids or whatever the hell else some of yall think they are.)

If you don't like really physical negative reinforcement, grabbing the dog by the scruff of its neck and saying very loudly CUT THAT OUT usually works after the first couple of times, especially for a young dog. Please get rid of this behaviour before the dog gets older, it isn't hard. Good luck with your pup!

Why yell? Dogs can hear better than people.

I guess if you want to say it in a stern serious voice, that works too. When my GSD gets too mouthy with me, I'll say loudly OUCH! and she'll shrink away thinking she's hurt me. Same thing when I tell her to go away or to cut it out, she'll stop whatever she's doing and go lie down somewhere.

  18. ShakaZ

    ShakaZ CH Dog

LOL. She does that cause you hurt her ears with all that yelling.... naw I'm playing with you, I do the same thing. But I also give a little swat to teach em what no means. And then there are the come to jesus moments. Example: First time pup feels grown enough to bolt out the front door when it opens...automatic come to jesus moment. I guarantee its the only time I have to worry about that happening. BUT for the most part once they learn the meaning of no (as far as normal things like messin with cords and stuff) they generally listen until they're old enough to go on a chain.

This thread has gotten out of hand Naus dident mean to litterly beat the damn puppy. He could of worded his responce better but he clearly dident mean to seriously beat the damn dog. A simple light swat on the nose or but will do the job grabing the dog by the scruff of the neck dont always work. Sometimes it takes a combanation of methods. I had a pup that seriously chalanged me to about a year at whitch point I was at my limit and he was about to get a nap. As a last resort a right hook changed his life quick like. It took that to establish dominince in this particular dog the little slaps and alpha rolls and firm no's and grabbing of the scruff just made him more determaned. Did not dicourage the behavior at all.Actualy just challanged him more. Folks that have the opinion that light swats as corections will break a dog 1, dont know the breed well and 2 Is about as bad as any friggen tre hugging bunny lover . Like shakers said Mother dogs corect pups by nuzzleing and nipping them. And tommy I aint no got damn punk thank you!.
