HA! Yeah right! The HSUS use its donated money to actually care for animals...NO WAY! Then who is going to pay their 6 figure salaries and advertising campaigns TALKING about how much they do, without DOING any of it!

I know alot of "rescue groups" that went down there and brought up hundreds of animals,,and not cared about finding the rightfull owners,,the whole rescue thing for the ppl as well as the animals was just so screwed up,,anyone was allowed down there to do whatever they wanted,,granted there were some decent hard working ppl down there,,but,,there was also alot of oportunists.

There are always people who take advantage of disasters...kinda makes you lose your faith.
But there were groups that did good work too. It pays to investigate who is getting your hard earned money...Sometimes national groups aren't as reputable as they would wish us to believe...
Remember 9/11 and the Red Cross?

    More on this:

    Crosspost at will......

For quite some time, there have been rumors that the Louisiana Attorney
General had plans to investigate complaints filed against the HSUS for
misuse of donated funds in connection with rescue of pets from the
Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita ravaged areas of the southern
states. It's now official. Complaints and reports have indicated that
supplies (beds, blankets, toys, crates, x-pens, etc.) and food were
never allowed to be used to help the animals housed in the rescue
centers. Although thousands of pounds of top-quality food were donated,
many volunteers have complained that they were only allowed to feed the
rescued animals the cheapest, poorest quality foods they received.
Allegations have been made that purebred rescue groups were turned away
by the HSUS and not allowed to pull their own breeds from the rescue
centers, unless they were willing to take "X" number of "others" as
well. Additional reports indicate that at least 700 "bully" breed dogs
mysteriously disappeared from the HSUS rescue centers, never to be seen
again. It has also been widely reported that some pets were sent to
far-away locations, quickly adopted out, and that no real efforts were
made to reunite these lost pets with their original owners.

If you personally volunteered in the post-hurricane rescue effort (or if
you know someone who did) and may have firsthand knowledge of the pet
rescue situation in the aftermath of the hurricanes, please contact
Attorney General Foti and provide him with all pertinent information to
assist him in his effort to ensure that funds and/or supplies donated by
the compassionate pet owners of the U.S. were and **will be** used for
the purposes for which they were donated.

The Attorney General is asking anyone with information about questionable fundraising activities by animal groups or any other groups to please contact the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Section at 1-800-351-4889 or visit our website at www.ag.state.la.us.

Things like this make me ashamed I'm from Louisiana. I spent weeks as a volunteer nurse and only did it because it was the right thing to do. These people are disgraceful and should be prosecuted. By the way, I would have prefered being with the animals than with some of the people I was trying to help. I think they would have been far more grateful and deserving.

You know, its not just them either. There has been a lot of pretty bad behavior from some rescues, particuarly some no-kill ones. The "good" rescues placed or returned the best dogs and culled the rest. But some just warehoused a bunch from some of what I've read.It seems like a lot of no-kill rescues don't really believe in the concept of culling and place a lot of iffy dogs. In the case of Pitbulls, thats bad news for all of us.
