How valuable is a dog with no papers?

Discussion in 'Breeder Discussion' started by ChevyNova06, Jun 22, 2011.

  1. I have a Maday/Butkus male that i breed in raised myself. He is a GOOD honest bulldog and leaves nothing more to be desired in a good dog but unfortunately, I don't have the papers on the dog. However, I would like to put him up for stud but im afraid people wont be interested just because he doesn't have the paper work to back his ability. So im just wondering how valuable is a dog with no papers? Is he just as valueable as a good one with papers? Because these days people are breeding dogs to dogs, not papers to papers...just somthing to think about.

It probably depends on the persons opinion of your dog and how much they value your word and you as a person. If they are breeding dogs not papers then why are you worried about papers? Something else to think about.

none of my dogs are registered. papers are a sellers tool, not many competitive dogmen i know give a rats ass about papers because we know in our head how they are bred. if your dog is truly a bulldog, other people must have seen him. that is how you gain interest in your dogs, not which registry they are with.

When I started out with these dogs, all I cared about was how beautiful my dog's coat was and that he had a ADBA registered dog. Later when I really discovered what these dogs were all about, I was never again concerned about the papers. A Bulldog is a bulldog is a bulldog. People wanted some of my unregistered mutts back in the day.

as long as you are a trustworthy person and the dog has proven his worth and the folks that want to breed to him know he has proven his worth and is bred the way you say he is i see no problem like was stated earlier alot of real dog men do not even register there stock they usually have hand written pedigrees to show people how the dog is bred here is an example i have laying around

PAPERS? Who cares, just a way for them people and the IRS to keep track. GRCH Candy, Ch Cuco, Ch Comino, Ch Zorro, Ch Cheyenne etc etc don't need no stinking papers unless they're hand written, and there is not enough of their pups for the demand since they are rarely sold.

I think it's important 2 have at least just hand written than having nothing at all on you're dog

True that, cos the papers we talking about are registration papers.
I do believe that a short pencil is much better than a long memory, cos the short pencil will outlast that long memory.

Thank you all for the helpful comments that were posted concerning the "How valuable is a dog with no papers thread." It was good to get other fanciers opinion about the paper thing. Now I won't even bother to call and hassle the owner of the sire to my male, I'll just breed him and see if he can produce as well as his father!!! Lol :)
