Sometimes the experienced eye doesn't point out anything magical. It merely points out that you shouldn't second guess things, and to abide by the realities you know.

This was nothing but a gamble that paid off.95 percent of the dogmen in that era wouldnt have touched Dibo especially after Heinzel advised against it.Earl Tudor was a Gambler 1st and he like the way the dog was bred and took a gamble on him and it payed off.

This is straight from Howard's mouth. Earl picked Dumbo STRICTLY because of his breeding. Nothing more. Nothing less. Earl wanted THAT breeding. Period. One can throw all the voodoo into it they like.

Lol... maybe i am a clairvoyant.

Look guys, all i am saying is that their are many traits that make up a great dog, right?
And many of those traits, not all of them, can been seen when they are young.

So if you presume gameness will be equal among the litter you need to look for other traits that will separate the pups.

That's all i'm going to let out of the bag...

Now if you don't know how to do this and you need to grow your dogs out to find out they are lacking that's fine because if they are lacking you will find out sooner or later.

Also on the flip side of things i have spotted pups that will definitely not make it. They were my friends dogs and the first time i seen them i pointed out that i don't think those dogs would turn out, and i explained to them why. They wanted to see if i was wrong and all they did was prove me right. The dogs did not turn out and it was exactly because of the reason i explained to them when the dogs were young, 4 months and 6 months old.

Finally i would like to say if you yourself don't know how to do this, don't be upset because there probably isn't many people that can, that's fine just admit it. BUT just because you don't know how to do it doesn't mean its not possible and therefore you shouldn't be telling people that its impossible. There are young dog men in the making reading these forums and they don't need false information that may set them back in their thinking.

How about we leave it at, maybe its possible to pick out the best pup in the litter, but i have never met anyone that could do it.

"So, you presume gameness to be equal throughout the litter"????? That, to me, discredits anything else you said. You presume the gameness. You presume things you see in an infant will manifest as a fully mature dog. You presume very much. Just not the reality of certain things. Let's discredit yet another presumption.............that you stand basically alone about signs which somehow translate in infancy to full adulthood, and that if someone approaches it with known realism and long lived experiences, thus disagreeing with you, that they are somehow misinforming young people. What a crock.
Whereas I, and others, have cautioned them from falling prey to voodoo, you haven't given these "younger people" any example of your magic. While most of us can and have given reason for the common sense we're expressing, you have spoken without the slightest inkling of your so-called perspective.
I will be the first to say that what I see, feel and know due to experience IS MY OPINION. I can do so without calling others 'ignorant" because they may have a different opinion. I think we can all try to understand the meaning of an old, honest dogger with the highest integrity and esteem as to what message he is trying to give, in order to caution against myth and fallacy. No one need to say he is trying to sluff some "crap part of a litter" to anyone, whatever the hell that may even be, and however the hell he would know, given what he said to begin with.
You said yourself that you don't know anyone else who can do this magical insight into the future. So..........in that case, what would any "young dogger" have to gain? I will continue to caution new people in the dogs about mystical bs. Most of them, the sincere ones, have that honesty coming to them.

If you red everything I wrote you would of picked up that I never said i could do it every time.... If you can't pick up words in a sentence then how can you possibly know how to pick the best pup???

  13. I think there is something that you can see or something the pup will show you when he or she is young that helps you make a better pick... I usually like the ones that resemble the gamer dog in the breeding and the most outgoing ones...however sometimes the shy ones turn out better they just turn on slower..roll of the dice...gamble...etc...is true as well

So no one here can look at a badly constructed dog and work out that it won't be able to catch as good as a well constructed dog?

Just a side fact, one of the best dog men ever (he bred his own and showed his own and possibly won more shows than anyone else in history) would cull his pups if they didn't have a certain trait by a certain age. He didn't do it from the start he did it after many years of breeding. He just noticed something and if the pups didn't have that trait he culled them because he new from many years of breeding and many litters that the pups that didn't have that trait rarely turned out so in the end he just culled. What that meant was he could either raise less dogs and get the same results or he could do more breedings.

I don't hear people calling him crazy or a clairvoyant. Pretty scientific if you ask me.
