This is kida funny in a way but well humor me. My puppy will get the zoomies and "SMACK" right into the coffee table/ wall/ chair/ bedpost whatever head first. I know it must hurt and youd think hed learn but can this cause any damage?? He never yelps or crys he just keeps on playing like he meant to do it. Im positive I would have been Knocked out cold after pulling one of these. Any suggestions? He gets plenty of excersise!

No but if its getting really bad. I would get some stour foam (dont know if thats how you spell it) and put it on the places where he hits his head at mostly.

Mine used to, and still ocassionally, does that. She mostly gets the zoomies at night. When I started to exercise her more during the day, she became to tired to run around like a maniac. Of course, they're puppies, enjoy the zoomies while they last. Do what CB suggested, or have her get the zoomies outdoors where the chances of her running into a coffee table are slim :)

My two dogs at 1 1/2 yrs still do that but only when they have just gotten a bath its really funny to watch these huge dog running full speed in my little house.

I had a heinz57 mutt that ran full tilt into the bench on a picknick table. Knocked herself for a loop, minor concussion. Gotta love the hyper drive on those pitty pups, little darlings LOL.

I wouldn't worry to much, if I found one thing over the years with these dogs its that they have HARD heads. They'll just shake it off and go on.

If the pup actually knocks itself out, or seems to stagger around after a run in, then you need to watch for certain things or take it to the vet.

Correct me fellow doggers if I'm wrong, its been a while, but I believe these are the signs of a concussion.

nausea,vomitting....difficulty staying awake...... one pupil is dilated and the other normal....kinda like this oO and thats all I can think of right now.

    Enjoy your pup!

when a puppy or even a person smacks their head on their own steam,,generally they are fine,,,its more of an issue if its another force that has made them bump their head.

Zoomies- when a dog, usually a pup, zips & "zooms" around the house/yard for no apparent reason. You generally know when it's happening. It's like they get possessed and just get an instant burst of energy. It usually doesn't last that long.

My two little guys go nuts in my house. I think its histerical to watch them chase each other around my couches and under my coffee table, through the kitchen and down the hallway. Full speed ahead. God knows the eat the coffee table up with their heads. Can't feel good...lol

  13. i had a house dog that did this a while back he started at about 8 weeks old and didnt stop till he died of old age hell he even did a turner and hooch and put his head through my bedroom door when he was 3 just to get out and say hi to me and a friend so if he isnt hurting himself then he is fine, thats the conclusion i came to with my old dog rebel.i figure that if they hurt their selfs they will stop they aint stupid.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you can tell he's hurting himself. My GSD male I used to have had a bit of running into the corners of walls, the corners that are outwards. Its gotta hurt but it never stopped him, he just kept running.

I'm really glad to know that its called the "zoomies" LOL Mikey does this about 3 times a day and its hysterical. He's 10 mo now and his head has head the wall so many times I worry. He never stops though! He grins from ear to ear and keeps on zoomin'.
