I didn't know the difference between an AmStaff, an AmBully and an APBT until my friend Muttkip schooled me on the breed. Since then [about 2 years ago], I've researched into several different bloodlines, as well as history and breed standards. So far, when I get the chance to own one, I'd like a Jeep/Redboy dog; I've found this cross to be the most appealing to me.

But I'm only seventeen, and still living with my parents. I don't be able to own a bulldog until after the Navy.

A friend had one of their dogs brought up from the deep south LA. I believe. His family raised them.I always liked dogs and thought I seen every breed of dog.He called me up and said come down and see my Bulldog. When I saw it I was like what the hell kind of Bulldog is that.He explained a few things to me.I thought he was messing with me.This was in the early 70's.I was hooked after I was around this dog more and more. When I got my own place I got one.

Family fued....my oldest memories of a child was with my grandfather and his dogs,he had a couple, but My father despised them he claimed they robbed him of his childhood. After the death of my grandmother his anger turned into pure hate!so bad that I never got to see grandpa again in one day he buried his wife and lost his grandson. Since I could remember I had plans of owning bulldogs even after my father tried to convince me that bulldogs were the devils dogs, they consume a mans heart to where nothing else is important not even family and that many of mens lives have been ruined by them and I was forbidden to have anything to do with those dogs.Time moved on grandpa and died when I was 14 and all the knowledge I could have absorbed with him, dad burned all if the photos and paper work to prevent what was inevitable(me & bulldogs).

I was raised around dogs my whole life. First a german shepard, then an akita, then rottie, then a lab. When I was 18, I was a freshman in college and spent countless hours goofing off on the internet at school instead of studying. I decided i wanted a dog and thought pitbull was next up on my list. But I was a broke college kid. So while I was saving, i did a ton of research. Came across Gr. Ch. Mayday and the whole gamedog world and went to every website, talked to many dogmen, read every book, etc etc. Finally bought my first bitch from Eric from Crossroad Kennels off Tant's Toejam. She was an awesome speciman and was stolen. It became very addicting and now I will never own another breed.

i grew up in east london, england and loved dogs from a young child, though my parents never allowed me to own one. my favourite breed back then was the athletic type staffordshire bull terrier which happened to be the most common breed in my area. when i eventually immigrated to Canada i was introduced to the first apbt's i'd ever seen, did my research and i was hooked ever since lol, unfortunately bsl was brought in a few years ago and so i havn't been able to own one yet... so in the meantime i just research and get as much knowledge as i can

I have been around the dogs most of my life and really took to them around the 4th grade. This is when i started to take more of an interest into the details of dogs, going to the library across the street and getting dog encylapedias and all that. Got my own dog the same year, as we always had family pets. This one was my responsibility only, and been getting them every since then.

  10. My grandfather got me into the dogs. He had a horse farm and had about 30 dogs. He was a pitbull lover and used to do it all. As a kid I didn't understand some of his teachings but later in life I realized why certain things are done.

    gramps (rip) was a dogman through the 70's & 80's & 90's.
i was raised with em, helped him in the yard (or thought i was lol) when i was in diapers feedin em & shit.
went out there a few times when he'd let them hump, i never really seen him roll a dog until i was bout 11 or 12. took em on walk when i felt like it lol.
had a couple on the yard that he actually would say were mine (when i was real little, of course they werent, except 1 or 2.

cold part about it was when i got to be a teenager i lost interest in a lot of things, family & dogs bein one of em. everytime id help him out there (when i was older) he'd try to spark conversation about one of the dogs or about one of his friends from back in the day from the club that was into dogs or that got him into them.
i remember my boy had a bully that he brought over, i was joking with my gramps when i yelled "hey grampa, me and joel are gonna roll the dog's in the back" (thinking id get a reaction) he yells "go ahead, the sticks are in the garage!!" (i dunno why he still had em, he only had 1 dog at the time.)
our faces looked like this :eek:
me and my boy still laugh about that till this day.

id kill to go back in time and just pick his brain apart for an hour...........too bad i was young & dumb!

I had a buddy in Jr. High that had one, wasn't registered or anything just a cool ass dog. His name was petey and he kinda looked like petey. White with bridle markings. I really hated pitbulls for a long time cause i was attacked by one in the alley when I was in the second grade taking out the trash. At first i was a bit hesitant about his dog. I went and stayed at his house one day and we went in the back yard to play with the dog. Thats when i fell in love with them and had to have one. His dad was a dogman in the 70's and explained some things to me. I got my first dog with money i had saved up when i was 15. Loving them ever since.

  16. Everyone has such nice stories. I don't have any good reason for getting into bulldogs I did it for pussy lol.
A neighbor had some bulldogs he needed taken care of and I needed the 5 bucks weekend money to go out so.... bulldogs lol.

  17. A great thread indeed. What keeps coming into my mind while reading these responses is how pure and great being in the dogs once was. I just wish things could have stayed the way they once were.

Around '90 I had a roomate that had one. When I was moving to another city, I just couldn't imagine life without one after that and by chance I got a phone call about a pup someone was trying to ditch. An aquaintence wound up with a three week old pup and their male was trying to eat through their bathroom door to get at her, so they wanted her gone. That was my first girl. After that... obsession.

I was given my first pitbull by my grandparents neighbor when I was 15 years old. This was a dog that made a great impression of this breed in my life.
