Has anyone had any experiences with Staffy's and intruders? Mym pup is about 14 months now and I'm certain that he wouldn't touch an intruder if he were to come in. I'm not sure if the situation would be any different if I were to get attacked. My previous Am-Staff was a lot more of a guard dog.

i had one stafford who proved himself suitable or even inclined for any kind of protection. i have had many who make suitable watch dogs (a good watch dog will do the job of prtecting home or person 99% of the time) and more who are not inclined towards protection at all beyond giving the alarm that a potential friend is approaching.
although exceptions exist, this breed just isn't overly suited for guard work. if you are ever wondering, go get your dog tested. your local pp club will certainly offer suitablity testing.

for this reason, i keep a guardian breed in addition to my staffords. much more suited for that kind of work.

  3. My wee staffy goes off his head in the garden if someone walks past or try's the gate. When he is in the house and the door goes he does nothing. If I say whos that to him he bites me lol. Another thing do staffies dig holes alot ? This 1 of mine gets in a right mess diging lol cheers.

I've been around many SBT's and not one of them was a decent " property" guard. You could walk in the house, load the furniture and pat the staffie and even take him home with you. Creeping up on a sleeping owner or acting aggressive to the owner or their kids is another matter. The same Staffie that will let you take the TV if no one's home will fight tooth and nail to protect their family. SBT's I've known have been amongst the smartest and most stable tempered breeds.

I don´t consider a StaffBull a guard dog by nature but there are ways to train him to stop intruders and take it´s job seriously!
The only thing is do you really want such in a StaffBull?
Friend of mine is training Dogs as Property Guard Dogs for companies and believe me you can almost train every drivey dog to do that!

that's definitely true, I've seen shorty bulls that were protection trained and, at first glance, they don't seem all that imposing given their short stature. However, these shorty bulls are like cannon balls.

    Shorty Bulls?
No experience with them! Is there a need for Shorty Bulls anyways?

Googled Shorty Bulls and only got Frenchie/AmBully mixes.

All you have to do is buy yourself a GSD, stick it in the front window and aint NOBODY gonna try and break into that house. As for a Staff? I don't know, it would likely be mistaken for a Pit Bull and the intruder would run, but I can't see someone being too afraid of a small dog at first glance.

Believe it or not, I had a StaffBull male back in the early 90ties that was a mean as fuck territorial dog!
So we decided to use his habits but put some training on him to be better under command / control.
He was hitting the decoy eagerly and with all the force a dog of it´s size and weight could and he did well!
Sure some fearless and resistant to pain person would beat him off but the average guy would be better in get out of there as fast as possible!
He did Schutzhund also and was an all arround drivey and tough dog!

There isn't a need for many fashion/accessory breeds, and yet they are here. In my opinion, shorty bulls should not have been created at all since it was just some breeder attempting to cash in on the bully fad and the popularity of the french bulldogs and boston terriers. I'm told these are boston x french x pug x bulldog and no ambully at all but w/e they are, they should never have been bred. No dog can be functionally mobile at 12 inches and 40 lbs. However, my point was that any dog can be protection trained.

    No, not any dog!
There have to bee some basically mental setups!
Protection / Guarding is serious work and not even most of the known Schutzhund breeds will do well, at least concerning my standards! LOL!

I just said Frenchie X AmBully because they look like a AmBully body with a Frenchie head. Ugly MoFos! And not ugly in the good, "ugly but functional" way!

Doginhold mentioned most Schutzhund breeds won't do it well... true! If you want a good guard dog get you a good Fila or Ovtcharka, or Boerboel.

And not even the breeds you mentioned as there´s often more talk then proof!
There are special techniques to teach them the ropes and even within breeds that are talked to be natural guard dogs you have to put some training into them to get the job properly done!
Nothing for the newbies but it will work if you have a decent dog and the need for a 100 % guard dog!
All others that aren´t trained would fail at some point if they run into someone that knows how to handle a dog that has no experience with pressure put on them!

in over 20 years i have only had 1 really good guard dog that was a stafford, he was one of the best i ever seen of any breed i never taught him he just seemed to have a eye for trouble , tho always gave fair warning before takjin action , hope to have another like him noe day

I meant dog breed lol, not every god literally. I also agree with doginhold said about individual breeds and specialized training to have a "100% guard dog." However, just about any dog breed is capable of some degree of protection, but I definitely agree that your average guard dog will most likely fail when pressure it put on them.
