also i have seen dogs with fancy looking "game" pedigrees that could never have been from the dogs that they are claimed to be from,these inner city wannabe gangsta dogmen are far more likely to be getting dogs from the piczo paper hangers than they are from the floyd boudreaux or danny burtons of this world.

Welcome to the sight! I hope You get a wealth of information from the article and historical threads here! I have to say Your blues are very good specimens and I am not a fan of blues by far! You have very good looking healthy dogs and it's sooo god that they are in good condition and not like the fat blue mongrels most choose to breed lately! You have my utmost respect for Your principles and choosing to keep higher standerds rather than sinking to the levels soo many money hungrey peddlers choose to do!!

LOL well we had a Pit Bull for our first dog around the late 80's I was only 8/9, in 1991 the Dangerous Dogs Act came in and took our boy away from us. So we had Ed Reids Sporting Dog Periodical and we saw pups advertised from KKs Blue and Sky and also pups available from Big Red, by the time my brother and I had saved our pocket money to buy one of the pups the pups were gone, so we were on both waiting lists for about a year. So the choice was between the 2, now looking back now I would have waited for Big Reds pups, he was an amazing athlete. However the first person to ring us back to say they had pups available was KKs and thats where it all started. Ive now stuck with the blues because my first boy Ben was an amazing dog and as drivey as you like, he left us wanting more after we lost him to cancer aged 11. And now the more people tell me blues are crap the more I want to prove them wrong.
I kept the 2 pups because my family and I fell in love with the 2 that we have and couldnt part with them, (im a pretty useless breeder, when it comes to letting them go). But I have my eye on my next dog and it wont be blue but that doesnt mean I will abandon trying to prove the blue are capable as any other coloured dog..........a wise man once said to me "I dont care if its yellow, as long as it can do the job".

 

"dont care if its yellow,aslong as it can do its job".......ill agree with that.....what job was it(the breed) created for tho....??...very much doubt it was jumping over sticks ....climbing walls etc......are all breeds not created for a certain job in particular??....if it cant partake in what job the history of its breed was used for then what use is it??....house pet??...ill agree your dogs got to be fit enough to do such things like jump,swim,run etc at them shows....but so can any breed if trained right...its nothing personall....i just dont like to see such things chatted about like its special.....your dog has fancy looks....its fit....and it does things alot of other "breed types" cant through their laziness....but...im sick to fucking death of hearing people say...."im going to buy a blue staff".....ive fell out with a good friend over it.....cos quite simply i think hes a silly cunt for them sort of thoughts.....ahhh feck it.....wooooooosahhhh

 

Fair dues, I know what youre saying........ but a lot of us have a passion for our dogs and where they came from, legally we cannot see them do what they were bred for so we need to do the next best thing and yes thats jumping over a frames and pulling weight.I love my dogs history and past and I enjoy reading about it, but would I partake in it? No because its not legal.
Ok I have a fancy looking dog, but why does that take anything away from what hes capable of?
Dont get me wrong I know what youre saying and completely understand but yes my dogs are now fancy looking pets and their energy is channeled into other forms of work rather than their original purpose, because thats what the rules of the land are.

2) You are way off the mark with those comments and as a fellow bull terrier owner should know better, thats the sort of shit Id expect to read in the papers. Its the high prey drive in dogs that gets people bit not gameness. True fighting dogs by the nature of their job should not be human aggressive. Being a ickc judge Im sure Ed would have explained that one.

3) Congrats on the healthy looking dogs, and you have a fine mentor in Ed, hes a cracking bloke.

@itsmeagain - Thanks for the welcome, but like I said it was a question not a statement and the point of the question was maybe "game dogs" are getting in the wrong hands with people not knowing how to raise a game dog and channel its energy, half wits that have something to prove and deliberately make them human aggressive, although having said that I thnk the crosses are the unstable ones. Again its a question, a suggestion, a probability its not a fact or statement im making, so please dont compare me to a scummy newspaper. I know im an IKC judge and I am being mentored by the best and trust me Ed understands my views, we have had many a chats!

I think you hit the nail on the head, these dogs are getting into the wrong hands.

Heres a genuine question for you why do you call your dogs staffs when there based on Psycho who was a cross ?? Always wondered that but never got a proper answer.

 

LOL Yeah OK Ive had enough of answering questions about my dogs, they are staffs and thats that, ok Psycho was a cross, but how far back was that?
Seriously, im not on here to discuss my dogs pedigree's for people that are using fake names and I have no clue who they are. If anyone wants to ask me questions you know where I am and how you can find me......lets do it like adults and talk in person rather than a PUBLIC forum!

There your dogs and you can call them what you want But that was a genuine question I've asked alot of owners of Psycho and Stormer bred dogs why they call them staffs, maybe one day someone will tell me.

 

Maybe you will get an answer, but I doubt it'll be on a dog forum!

or a dog show, I arranged for a judge to come to eds show when he did one in derbyshire, the judge owned psycho at one time, of the people I asked at the show he was the only one that called them cross breeds.

Guess Ill stick with what I know .

 

Saying that itsmeagain please put your point across in the battle cross thread,that would be some good debate right there...meaning people in there saying why the hell would you cross breed it doesnt work continually etc etc...

Would be good to hear different points of view on that,would be a debate and half i bet

 

Battle crosses do work, look at dogs like Pirate, Ch Bruno, GR CH Jenny, CH Ned, CH Sunny ect but what happens after that initial cross ?? and at some point they get assimulated into a mainstream breed like the Psycho dog has with these present day blue/irish/oldtyme/sporting staffords.

My sticking point is that people used to find white dogs roaming the streets and paper them up and send them over here for big bucks. I know this to be true. I also know for a fact that some modern 'staffs' carry a good % of GR CH Banjo blood in them. What I dont understand is why people would call them staffs ??

I take my hat off to anyone who is trying to improve the staffs, I just think that it would be done better by a stricter selection process rather than adding in blood from another breed IMHO
