Remember I said that there was no physiological need for carbs. You could have the best dog in the world and it only ever eat good quality meat and fat.

I didn`t say that if I was conditioning a dog professionally I wouldn`t use a carb such as Maltodextrin as part of the post workout nutrition. I would actually probably use a mixture of different sugars with different glycemic curves.

heart rate monitoring is no different than a slat mill or a e-mill or a spring pool..it is just another tool that will/can help you get where you are going...a bringing one in right is as much opinion as it is science...and as much personal preference than anything...i have always been more concerned with recovery time than work load...if my dog could 'run a mill all out' for ten straight minutes (just an example) but it took another ten minnutes before he was ready to go again...well that ten minutes of 'work' is not impressive at all...but if he can go all out for ten minutes, recover in seconds and go again all out...now that is conditioning...conditioning takes in everything from style to heart to ability to work ethic....using the heart rate as a means to the end is a really good idea...US1
