Last time I started a gun thread it got deleted......... twice!!!! But for the sake of hearing what a fool I am let's talk 1911 model semi auto. Like a colt defender for example. And let's here how a half plastic gun is better. And I could care less about how many more rounds it holds cause if you can shoot straight you won't need em.

Also a beautiful solid well made pistol. Don't get me wrong, I own a Walter P99 40 cal and I love it. Also had a Walther P22 which was a fun one to shoot. Had a sub compact XD 9 mil that I liked but sold those two. IMO the 1911 is the better gun. It's solid. Made better.

half plastic? have you ever seen the amount of abuse these "plastic" guns will take without a single ftf, fte? i own a G19 that was bought years ago, cleaned once right outta the box, and have since had 10s of THOUSANDS of rounds put thru it with only a couple drops of oil every once in awhile on the rails to keep her going. never cleaned, and still running like a champ. you WONT find a 1911 that will EVER do that. thats called reliability...something i demand of my pistols. i own 2 1911s right now, a basic GI SA, and a Colt 1991. both basic guns, and ive owned far more expensive ones too, but what ive found is that 1911s are like sports cars, they cost alotta money and you need a good mechanic. face it, the 1911 is a 100 year old design that was left in the dust long ago.

Well if your house ever catches on fire at least you'll still have the slide and the barrel. I'll just go but some new rubber grips.

And as far as abuse, if I drop my metal gun I won't have to worry about it cracking. And as far as the price, sometimes you get what you pay for. They ain't cheap cause they ain't made cheap.

I got a buddy with a couple purple hearts, 4 tours in last 8 yrs, with the Marines first then the Army; who used to teach small arms training at Ft. Hood berfore the shooting out there, and he swears by the 1911! Im just saying those that know, know. I have a HK USP Compact and I love it, but it aint no 1911 thats for sure

thats just fuckin stupid, a polymer gun has actually proven to be far more durable than a steel or an alloy gun. take your 1911 out and park your truck on it for awhile, put a mag in, and then try to shoot it. let me know how that works out for ya. Glock guns arent made cheap either, my Glocks will outlast 2 or three of your 1911s...does that sound like a cheaply made gun? Glock has got it down to a science and they pass that on to you with at a reasonable MSRP. i wish more companies would do that

look, im not gonna say the 1911 isnt a good gun, its just not the one you would go to in say a SHTF type scenario. if you did, youd end up with a nonfunctioning club long before the fella who grabs a more modern proven design. thats all. like i said, i own a couple, and have had many others, but they get let go of long before id ever let go of my Glocks. or my H&Ks, or my Sigs, etc...

I don't know about a glock, never owned one. Couldn't get passed how ugly they are. But when I take my colt apart versus all three of the polymer guns I've had, I like what I see on the inside a lot more. The springs are better and overall everything just looks more solid and made better. Also they're heavier so recoil isn't as bad.

you bloody yanks are crazy! [sarcasim] we cant legally own any semi automatic weapon here without being a member of a gun club. Martin Bryant fucked it all up for alll of us here, i was brought up with guns and shooting i would at least shot three to four days a week, but after that we got shafted by the gov. as soon as i hit twenty five i let my licence slide and now im paying for it. we had to trade in our autos and semi autos as soon as the laws came in.
a friend of mine with no records whatsoever past or present has recently gone and got his handgun licence, and cannot even take his gun without solid containment out of the club or his premises took him a year before he was aproved, simply because he wanted a glok for a bit of fun.

the springs??? are you for real? if you think theyre junk springs:rolleyes:, i'll tell you this, they arent hard to work on. as for weight, that dont mean shit in this comparison. what keeps a gun from bucking a bunch when you shoot it is a low bore axis...something they do have. yes, Glocks are ugly, but pretty isnt gonna kill the badguy in your house at 3 AM Yardboy. buy a Glock, youll see. they run just under 500 spend another 75 for some better sights(i do think the factory one suck) and if you dont like it, they hold a pretty decent resale value due the fact that its hard to hurt one.

To be fair, that same buddy of mine who swears by the 1911, also claims for the money you cant beat a Glock. Take it how you wanna.

and excuse my ignorance but are they changing the new lots to being all metal again? the last five ive seen have been 3/4 polymer, but i heard our aussie pigs are going to be using new non plastic guns this year?????

new lots of what? if they are using non plastic, it wont be Glocks. the 4th gen just came out in the 17 and the G22 with a few minor changes. (interchangeable backstrap and dual captive spring like the baby Glocks to name a couple)...and for the record, i was a revolver guy most my adult life, carried them for years until i got my first Glock. i hated the look, but i bought one to see what all the fuss was about. been carrying one daily ever since

A 1911 is a combat proven design for sure! Not my favorite type of pistol but an excellent choice to carry! I love the looks, the history, and the weight of the steel! It's a real man's pistol!
I've been really liking my 40 S&W Charles Daly Jericho 941 formerly the Baby Desert Eagle. I got one in the sub compact 9mm version also. These are some seriously sweet shooters and wont break the bank like most of your 1911 pistols will! I'll always love the colt design of the 1911 but truth be told I have never shot a smoother or more accurate production pistol than the Jericho! For an affordable modern firearm the 941 is hard to beat!
