  1. Ron Zuebane lost his motel room to Hurricane Charley, but he wasn't about to give up his dog.

When shelters wouldn't take Zubee, an 11-year-old pit bull, Zuebane set out on his own. He parked his truck and pitched his tent in the deserted parking lot of the Dotzler YMCA Center.

"Everybody's all freaked out that he's a pit bull, but he's a gentle dog," Zuebane says. "I couldn't leave him. I raised him from a pup."

A dogman helps another, even if we don't like the man.

"A dogman helps another, even if we don't like the man." Just wanted to emphasize something someone earlier said. I believe this is why the sport of today doesn't compare favorably with that of several years ago. I have been to several different "dogger" boards and on most of em we have a bunch of "doggers" talkin shit about each other and the dogs they choose to run. To me it seems like a lot of the doggers of today are nothin more than immature children, this is not to say most are of this type. Just that's the type we see the most out of. Now we all know the doggers of the past had their conflicts and differences of opinion, but it seems they were more gentlemanly about it. Guess that's why it used to be known as the "Gentlemans Sport". So rather than going out of our way to be assholes, why not spend that time and energy trying to help one another, especially those greener than ourselves. Might even help turn around public opinion of our breed; ie less uninformed wannabes and backyard breeders because someone showed them the right path.

true. Its much like fighting, there is mutual repect between opennents most of the time, no matter how much bad blood before the fight you always walk up after you beat the hell out of eachother and hug and show respect. ken shamrock and Tito ortiz had a genuaine beef not just an act for more PPV buys, they showed respect after the fight just like most guys do. Same should be done for Dogmen, the common bond is still the dogs and knowledge is everything, you can always learn something off eachother no matter how much you currently know. As in MMA alot of the time the top guys train with eachother. This is like dogmen, if you close your mind and refuse to learn, you will never reach the top. to be the best you need to learn from the best and continue evolving

when I read the story though I wonder how it ever came about of dogmen helping another. This looks like he simply reported a story he found.

The shelters, although supposed to be there for all animals are the ones who didnt help. The shelters are not dogmen at all.
