Good alternatives to dog treadmill?

Discussion in 'Products & Equipment' started by davidscott, May 10, 2013.

  1. Hope it's the right place for asking help. Well, My Atom is pretty active and loves outdoors. I am looking for something that offers best exercise to my dog in outdoors. Please suggest some good alternatives to dog treadmills.

    Thanks in advance

Swimming is one of the best outdoor activities IMO.

I agree swimming is good. It's a great work out and is less stress on joints.

I'm with Jacko on this. Long walks are good for both of you.

  6. long walks with swimming along the way is great , a 1 minute swim is equal to a 4 minute run for a dog

The thing that would most likely replicate the treadmill is a bike imo.

  8. I agree...

Long hand walks will do wonders. Biking is great. Swimming is as good as it gets if you have access to the water. All are just tools and when used correctly none are any better than the other. S

  12. No doubt..! Long walks and swimming are really good alternatives to dog treadmill, but here's no swimming pool for dogs in my city. I tried long walk, but Atom was more interested in chasing cars, bikes, bicyclists and joggers. So, I am looking something that attract him. Well, my online searching is in full swing. Hope to find something good for him soon.

Swimming and handwalking in the woods uphill downhill, is almost better than a treadmill in my opinion

  14. Swimming is an all around great workout also walking imo are the best alt. if you don't have a treadmill or a Jenny

  15. First of all, what do your dog like to do. If he had a strong prey drive you can flirt pole with him and have him drag a short chain on the end of a leash

  16. While searching online I came across an article at Mashable listed 5 tech dog toys. One of them is chasing toy called Go-Go Dog Pal. At first sight it looked interesting. Does anyone own this toy and have info about it?

That Dog Pal might be ok with a Lab but I'm betting a Bull Dog would grab the antenna and shake.

Weighted walks are a good way to tire a dog quickly

  19. I also watched some videos of other dogs' breeds chasing go-go dog pal. Don't know what my boy will do with this dog toy.

  20. Truth has been told.I have a couple that are up for anything but will fall down beat tired on a springpole and love it .
