I'm just giving you a hard time, I knew what you ment. lol

Mike, like AGK stated, it's great if you cook it right. Most people know about squirrel an dumplins or squirrel stew. We do a lot more with them than that.

They are a lot of work and really the only thing you will eat is the back legs and straps.

AGK, when does ya'll season open? Bow season opens the 28th of September for us. Do you hunt the early season or wait till the pre-rut/rut to kick in? I had a buddy who only hunts before and after gun and muzzle loader season closes.

October 5th. Statewide. We hunt both archery seasons ( early & late) and the 2 week gun season. Of course, that always depends, if we get a deer in the early archery season then we're done for the year till either spring turkey or small game starts back up. Our bear season is only 3 days long here and it is always during the week. I've never got to do that season due to having to work. Someday I'll get that one in too. .

Nope nothing yet. I've only gone out 3 times, all different areas. I could have filled a few doe tags but i was late sending them in and didn't get any so I can only shoot a 8 point or higher. These damn antler restrictions are bullshit. I just want meat in my freezer I don't give a shit whats on it's head as I can't eat antlers lol. I got till mid February to tag one so I still got plenty of time... ;)

On a better note though, I did find a new Turkey spot this year that is showing a lot of promise.

Heck yea!!! I'm ready for turkey season already!!! We've got a few hundred acres of private land I hunt by myself. I'm cool with the antler restrictions because people in my area would shoot the smallest scrub buck you have ever seen if it weren't for them. They still shoot forked horns that have a kicker on one side to give them 3 points. I hunt does for meat but I don't fill buck tags unless they are 130" antlers or more. I've let a few smaller 6 points go that were bigger than most of my friends 8 or 9 point bucks. In my state, you can shoot 3-4 does and 2 bucks so does stock the freezer each year. I'll be out there this coming thursday and friday for number 2!
Pre rut is in full swing so the shooter i've been waiting for should be moving. I saw him last thursday but i was nervous to grunt at him or blea at him because I thought it would move him away from me. He's a typical 5x5 with great mass for a mountain buck and he's around 145-150"

Glad to hear that people still stalk game. Growing up in rural PA and seeing deer everywhere and all the time made me wonder how people consider sitting in a stand and shooting them "hunting". I haven't been hunting in years, but you can bet that once my son is old enough we'll be getting out there.

Nice pics and nice job with the kids AGK.

I've been sick since last week so I haven't been out at all. Small game just opened up last weekend and while I would much rather go deer hunting, I got a lil girl who will be entering the woods for the first time this weekend, weather permitting, for some hunting introduction 101 Small Game lol

Thanks, feeling good enough to get back in the woods tomorrow. Going to be taking my lil one out for squirrel this Saturday. It'll just be an introduction on being quite, moving softly and learning how to mark your surroundings so you don't get lost. Basic skills since she is only 8. If we see some game then I'll show her what the gun does and basic safety with handling and how it operates but my main goal is to get her to be quite, walk soft and keep keen on where she is and whats in her surroundings at all times, also signs to look for when stalking specific game, in this case Squirrel. I have here and there hunted small game by way of Archery but I prefer a .22 LR and taking long shots. I enjoy the shotgun when hunting them as well. I don't do a lot of Small game with archery though because most of your shots are going to warp the shaft of your arrow when it hits the tree the Squirrel is on so it can get expensive quick.
