You're gonna be one broke man...

But that wasn't the question in the OP, from what I read. It's either got mouth or it has game. Nothing else matters based on this question. Mouth has a lot more going for it than game does when two dogs meet.

Here's a new concept... not everyone is into these dogs for the money, in fact the only way to make money off these dogs, is to bastardize them, ruin them, and use unethical practises in order to attain that kinda cash flow.

Read: Puppy Milling, Puppy Peddling, Lying, Cheating and other general douschebaggery.

Some of us don't give a shit about the money side of things.

I'd take a game loser over a rough mouthed cur as well, know why? Coz I don't give a fuck about money or winning, I love the breed, and I care about what is right for them as dogs and as a breed overall.

Breeding them, owning them and handling them to be game first and everything else second, is what they are supposed to be, why they were created and the very reason they are so great and so many people love them.

You want a rough mouthed cur that can win, go get yourself a Kangal or some Central Asian Shepherd like an Ovcharka - I don't love these dogs coz they are unbeatable or bite the hardest. I love em coz of their attitude and personality... the never say die attitude, willingness to please at any cost, loyalty and vigor til death... you wont and dont find that in just about anyone, or anything these days - and its a god damned shame.

witnessing a dg dog may strike emotion in some, but that emotion should be disgust in the dumbass owner, as I repeat, the dumbass owner of the DG dog. the operative word in dead game is dead, not game. there has never been a dead game dog that went on to win another, or produce another....it is one thing to lose one afterwards but to lose one because he was allowed to expire is freakin' stupid.....i have seen some that i thought would take their death, but the entire idea of dogs is to win....if one can not win tonight he is to be picked up, bred in order to perpetuate the next chance at winning....DG is a beautiful compliment for the dog, but an automatic "dumbass qualifier" for the owner/handler...s

The original poster asked "What do you think of people who breed for mouth" as opposed to breeding for gameness. After a few posters who misconstrued the original question. The thread went south. NOTK even said "Who needs gameness when you got mouth." Which is incorrectly assuming that the GAME dog lacks mouth. Having "mouth" has nothing to do with "bite-work" and building up a dogs mouth. Historically, that's a fallacy. Hard biting dogs bit hard in the box cause they wanted to as I posted in an earlier thread. Key words. They wanted to. Without gameness in your line of dogs, you quickly lose the "want to". The OP was mouth vs gameness in regards to BREEDING. Extremely hard mouthed dogs have proved their gameness, most likely before they even made it to the box for money. And most certainly after. For example, Mtn. Man's Homer, Ozzie Steven's Virgil, Adam's Zebo, Jimmy Boots, and the list goes on and on and on of hard mouthed GAME dogs. And another thing, If you think having "big teeth" has any thing to do with having a hard mouth, you're wrong. They most certainly help, but their have many small teeth, narrow headed dogs with fantastical mouths. Some even with hardly a canine in their head had mouths from Hell. So that's totally unrelated. Hard mouth without gameness is a race car without a courageous driver. He won't be on the track long. Not amongst professional drivers with engines just as strong and nerves of steel and a brave heart. I know several on here get where I'm coming from. I can count them on one hand probably. But to each his own, Good Day.:)

Gameness... look at wolves. Supposed to be the dogs with the most bite force. But 80% of time, the gamedog will come out on top against a single wolf. The wolf will run away to safety when things heat up.

besides gameness wich i think that is important..
aren't they suposed to win too?

what is the point of having dogs loosing (match or the life?) because they are game but can't win?

the hardest thing to keep is decent gameness....the dogs are called "gamedogs" for a reason......not called "hard-mouth dog" .....if you have any sense it would be a yard full of game dogs and proven game.than a yard full of crocodile biters and never proven how game they are.give me a proven game loser with style over a hard mouth unproven anyday.....but thats just me.....

I think it depends if the dog is for breeding v the []. Gameness is the hardest trait to keep alive so you want to breed for that first. You can breed to extreme game dogs and come out with a hard mouth at times. If you have to dogs who have hard mouths but arent as game its not likely your gonna come out with game.

Don't think a hard mouth and game are really linked. You could put two dogs with hard mouths together and definitely get some deep game ones and even some without much mouth.

When I think of hard mouth, most of the time, I'm thinking of a dog that is so punishing you never really find out how far it can go. I'm not gonna fault that dog because its too good by automatically assuming it wouldn't go the distance if it had to.

Now a hard biting dog that makes numerous bad signs and pussyfoots at scratch is another story and would have to be heavily thought about before breeding.

But if this half crocodile wrecking ball is chewing everything up in short fashion and making all the right moves then I'm giving him a chance in the breeding program and find out how he produces.
