There was a dude here who was a damn decent resource when it came to the birds. His go by was Rooster. He ran a forum bout em too.... he is not around anymore though.

You could always search the gallery section and go from there. quite a few members have birlds.

Dont really know a site that will give you clear cut info on how to get started but if you check out those sites and dig a little you may find some more info. If you want i can post some breeder sites, im sure if you contact them theyll help you out.

if you live in Cali I could refer you too some people. They just dont have websites let alone know how to use the internet.

its pretty easy. do you have birds now? you want reds, blues, greys? peacomb, straight comb?
    longgaff,shortgaff,mexican,slasher.

Sabong & gamerooster are both good resources. used to be steelgame.net or com or something. You used to be able to pick up back issues of grit&steel & the gamecock on ebay and amazon. Dont know about that anymore since the revision of the federal laws a few years back.

Aint nothin in the world like waking to the crow of a gamecock. I love em.

hit me up on a pm or we can hash it out here.

    For sure IT!!

The way ive come to thinking of getting some of these birds is that my grandad had some old english reds and some ginger birds when i was growing up which i loved...i got into the dogs in a big way and kind of forgot about birds...i had one dog recently that wouldnt run the mill for love nor money so borrowed a couple of young bantem cocks off of my mate which had the desired effect!!

After giving the birds back i miss the crows in the morning and just sparked my curiosity up having them around really.but if im gonna have some they gotta be for something, bred right and i thought before i go get some i would do some research.....

Whats the difference between the peacombe and straightcombe??

And the longgaff and shortgaff??is that the length of their spurs??

Slasher and mexican is that their style??

    Thanks for the help:)

Absolutely. Here are some Keeps by some well known Cockers. Haven t tried them all but Teddy Tanchanco's 14 day keep has yielded some great results for us.

The combs - pea combs are small Straight combs are big(singlecomb is the same as straight comb).

short gaff is any gaff from 1 -1 & 3/4 in. popular in the north back when.
long gaff any gaff over 1 3/4 in. popular in the south.
mexican short knife weapon attached to the dominant leg(left on almost all) with a botana and a knife up to about 1 1/4 in. is tied onto the boot.

slasher-longknife- knife from 2-3+ in. attached to a boot on the dominant leg.

Peacomb fowl tend to be high strung.jmo but each breed and strain is diffrent.

Birds are pretty easy once you learn how to do it right.

What do you know already and then we might have a better idea, Won't lie though I think it might be better to go through PM on account of you never know who is taking notes ;)
