laced, we really eat squirrel. There fun to hunt also, you see them as soon as the sun tops the trees, they come out to play. That's when it's on! Last weekend, my friend and I shot 12 and 2 coons lol didn't eat the coons but we found out who was stealing the corn from the home made feeders.

Keystone, a squirrel is also called a bushy tail down south or tree rat. Whichever you want to call it. lol
There really good, just takes some time to prepare them. Normally we boil them down for a while and then do something with them. The other weekend, we smoked 4 and bar-b-qued 4 just to see which one the girls liked. They didn't much care for the grill but they liked the smoked ones.

Miked, I missed dove season last year. I'm not missing it this year! Love dove but you gotta kill a dozen just to make a meal for 1 person.

 

Also LWG, we eat just about anything in my neck of the woods. I've eaten lots of things but mostly stuff we can catch or kill ourselves. Nothing to waste here and it's better than going to the store and spending $10 on meat. Last year, between me and my hunting partner, we dropped 8 deer (3 me and 5 him). We split the meat between us and my uncle who let us hunt his land. I had over 150 lb. of hamburger and steaks. We picked up a small buck someone had hit and it didn't die. They just left it on the side of the road with both legs broken. We butchered him as well and turned 90% of it into jerkey.

I got a couple friends I work with that come to my land once in a while to trap coons.They love to eat them.I dont eat them but have tried it.Dove and Qail very good.I also love pickled Qail eggs those are awesome ,much better than pickled chicken eggs.

your right my fav food is garballs fryed love it smothered 2 my family is French Cajuns raise quails hogs game chickens uncles and grand parents don't buy meat from store u cant beat a gumbo made with fresh yardbird

 

What about mud bugs better know as crawdads or crayfish whichever you say. I've always heard coon was good and armadillo but I don't know, never tried it. I do like some things people don't like and most have never or never will try. lol

 

LOL we can make you a pot pie and you would never know the difference. I've had people who couldn't eat squirrel have it that way without knowing and like it. It's just a mind f*ck.

This year, I've made it my goal to hunt a few main animals. Turkey, Squirrel, Deer, Dove, ducks and bear.

 

This thread needs more pictures of you guys devouring these critters lol. I am somewhat tempted to take out my .22 next weekend.

 

Shit around here we eat ALOT. Bear, Mountain lion, Elk, Mule deer, Tree rat, Coon, Bobcat... if we kill eat we eat it!

I love catfish eggs! You can get some monster egg sacks and fry them up, put them on a hotdog bun and holy shit!

I will be leaving the midwest tomorrow. The family does a huge deal for opening day of Dove season.

It has been 3 years since I have eaten beef, pork or chicken... 'cept thunder chicken! And 3 since I ate veggies we didn't raise up.

I rather spend paper money on stuff like ammo and beer... dogs and trucks than shitty store bought grub.

 

Ursaminor, I'll try and post pictures in the next couple of weekends. It's getting close to deer season and bear season so my time is spent between the woods, animals and work. It's dove season right now and I'm going this weekend hunting them!!!

Coondog, I'm with you man, I hate store bought anything. For 5 dollars and some elbow grease, you can churn out all the veggies you will ever need for the year. My ol' lady just learned how to can so well be canning everything from corn to eggs to deer meat.

 

Right on! I've been at the range a few times this year already but I doubt I'll be ready for deer this season.
