He was making a point that most people get, he had a rough life growing up and is making the best of his situation without handouts.

Free medical isn't going to make things better for those who currently work and can afford it, it will make things worse by lowering the care provided and will flood the hospitals with even more drug seekers. We will have to go on waiting lists to get treatment, good hard working citizens will be denied care while some low life no working slug will get more care than they could ever afford. So while some will benefit there will be alot more who do not and it would really piss me off if I was denied knowing that I pay my taxes while some welfare recipient gets treatment instead because they are "more qualified" for said treatment. All the countries that provide government healthcare are worse off than we are, if we go down that road then eventually we will be in the same economic crisis as Great Britian, thanks but no thanks.

Go ahead and close it. I'd rather stop Those that can't afford medical care and medical bills are the ones in the hole. People making enough money to do it themselves. What are you guys going to do when you get too old or sick to work anymore?

People, you're healthcare won't be free, even under the socialized system!

It will be at the expense of a worse economy, long waits for treatment, and even denial of treatments in some cases.

    NOTHING IS FREE

At least now you can pay for your healthcare. In time, you won't even be able to do that. You will go on a list and wait for health care for extended periods of time while you are sick, injured, or dying yet possibly be denied completely.

Those you mentioned, the ones who are too old or too sick to work anymore....
Those are the exact people who will not get treated AT ALL. That is exactly what is happening to people in many of the countries that have implemented socialize medicine and they have smaller populations! In Great Britain and other countries with this failed system, the government can decide whether or not the person is worth the time or money to save.

Stop feeding into the lies. Socialized medicine is nothing more than a way to gain more control of YOU. To take away your freedom

There are much better ways to fix the system. They won't do it because they won't be able to have control over your body LITERALLY in any of the other methods. They will be able to decide whether we live or die and we won't have anything to stop them!!!

There is actual talks about the liberals trying to implement a program where you can't even control your own thermostat in the name of conserving energy!

How many of your freedoms do you want taken away?

When will you wake up and stop giving in to these people?

We are on our way into becoming enslaved to this nation!

Exactly. It is terrible that many people can't afford the insurance. However, there have been many proposed solutions to fixing that problem that does not require socialization of the system.

By the way, I have thousands in medical bills I am still paying for during a trip to the hospital for pneumonia. I did not have health insurance at the time.

I understand the concern. However, giving the government control of everything is a terrible idea and is completely against what this country was founded on.

The focus on freedom and liberty in our constitution is what made our country what it is!

What you are seeing with the problems with the economy is to be blamed, for the majority, on government intervention. They have ruined everything they get their hands on because your interests are not the priority. Their power is their priority.
Now we are going to sit back and let them control and ruin a system that will effectively control your health?

Anymore? Pffft, quite a few people in medicine aren't after your best interest now. As far as healthcare is concerned, people are a giant walking wallet. Are there people who want to help? Yes, but that's getting fewer and farther in between IMO, and I honestly beleive that it will get even less so if the government gets control over it. Shoot, they can't even handle schools right, do you REALLY want them touching healthcare? Really?

Oh, I've actually known my main doctor since I was a kid, have no real problems with that, but there are getting to be way too many doctors that treat it a little too much like a business. I know everyone needs to make money but there are quite a few that just scribble down a diagnosis and sent you on your way. It took 3 doctors for me to find out I had pnuemonia, the first told me I had a mild form of asthma, and the second told me I had throat problems

  13. ...anything by Michael Moore is low class propoganda junk, but back to the topic...

Free health care, or better stated government sponsored health care is not a positive option for our country. For one is the national ideal that we were built upon. We have always (as a nation) wanted less central government involvemenr in our daily lives, and as an influx of socialist outlooks we have came to a sense of welfare entitlement. Just because one person can not afford medication it does not make a national crisis for the government to solve. First of all, government operates in areas of market failure. For this reason they do not want to be in "business" and normally will not operate "business" matters efficiently. To get a look at governemnt sponsored Healthcare on a small scale closely study the VA's hospital system. When these matters are left to private entities health care standard is raised, better services are provided, and our society is in a better place for health care. It is sad when an individual can not meet the demands of the system, but at the same time we have a national right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In that pursuit we have individual responsibilities. I think that health care may fall on local, and regional governemnts, but growing the federal government to provide this service is not the right answer.

Welfare is inefficient, and can not be measured simply by dollars in and dollars out. For that reason it would be unfair to say that simply because of cost we can not run this although I am against it in the first place...

i don't think health care should be free for everyone, but it sure would be nice if someone would make it more affordable. i've worked pretty much my whole life, with the exclusions of child birth of course. even when i was making good money, health insurance was outrageous. i was paying almost $300 every 2 weeks. where i live $300 to throw away at insurance is a good chunk of change. that didn't even cover all the medical costs. for a $3000 knee surgery, i still had to pay $2000 out of my own pocket. i'd like to know where my $300 every 2 weeks was going. now that i don't have that job, and have even crappier insurance, i'm too scared and broke to go to the dr. half my foot turned black and purple after walking in the snow. did i go to the er or dr? no, if i did then i would've jeopardized my ability to pay my bills. the fact that this is happening in the most powerful country in the world seems crazy to me. people who do work hard and pay taxes should be able to go to the dr. yeah i have insurance, but i still can't afford to go to the dr. don't get me wrong, if my kids get sick or hurt, i'll make it work and get them the care they need. meanwhile, i just have to rely on home remedies until something changes.

as for my opinion about our tax dollars being used for a war, i say we should've ripped them a new one and let them rebuild their own country. i think it should be like spanking a child, you don't give a child a cookie after you spank them. if they want their country rebuilt, i think they should pay us out of their own pockets, not mine.

good post prpit, i agree that a trip to the doctor is something that has to be life threatening before im gonna go, i got a neurologist up my butt all the time about coming in, do u think i do??? hell no, i worry more about my children going instead of myself, but i dont believe in a free(government) system. our government seems to have its plate full considering the politicians that are in office, and i dont expect much to "change" despite what obama promised. until then some will continue to work their asses off to afford to live, and others will sit around cuntinuing(sp?:D) to bitch about the system and drawing from it at the same time:mad:

    It comes down to this:
Do you really want the goverment telling you what doctor you can or can't see or wether or not they (the government) feel you need to see that specialist? I DON'T, if I'm sick I shouldn't have to ask approval from the government for treatment. I have worked in hospitals my entire working life (mostly on the surgical end) and if you come in here with a ruptured appendex, do you really want Uncle Sam to have to approve of your surgery before you can recieve it? ( I can't even reach these creeps to fix a friggin pot-hole in the street let alone need to get a hold of someone while in the middle of a medical emergency!) On top of that taxes would sky rocket from the cost of having the government control the insurance programs (history will prove that goverments are about the most wastefull of spenders there are, they are like a college kid with daddys credit card) I say keep it private and keep the government out of healthcare period! By the way we already have goverment based healthcare for those who can't afford health Insurance it's called WELFARE and millions of them depend on me to make it to work so they can sponge off the goverment. (I don't mean the people who need this type of assistace I am refering to the leaches of society!)

forgive my ignorance, but isn't there a way they could make insurance more affordable. couldn't the private companies be something like every other product maker in the u.s.? compete for business. i'm not asking for free. i'm just asking to be able to go to the dr. and fix the surgery my first dr. messed up, and not have to try to figure out where i'm going to get another $2000. i feel ya woody, i've had another dr tell me the only way to fix my knee is to go in and do what the other surgeon should've done to begin with. yeah right, after i pay them all that money. i don't know how the health system works, i just know it needs to be fixed. not by the government, but by someone. i'm working, i pay taxes, and i'll still can't afford to see a dr. it would just be nice to know that if i have to go to the dr i don't have to worry about putting off any of my other bills.

Here is my opinion. More government is BAD. It's as simple as that.

Darwinian law says that the sick die and the strong survive. Now, if the strong CHOOSE to help or save the sick from death that is their choice. It may be harsh but in today's society there are too many hand outs. Many people struggle everyday with pain or disease and still support themselves. I am one of them. Could I qualify for disability? Yeah, I actually could. Will I? No.

Why? Because I truly believe that the idea of entitlement as far as health care, government support/welfare is OUT OF CONTROL. People grow up with parents who never worked for a dime and they then learn to do the same. Most people don't decide after living that life to go get a job. I say we need to do away with entitlement programs that hand out money and food stamps and health care and create programs that will help people better themselves. Education for the poor. Money management for the poor. Childcare for parents so they can work. Not cash.

Teach a man to fish America!

Personally, I would use sleep deprivation as a tool to get ahead. I did actually. In high school I was awake for DAYS at a time. I never slept because the pills did not work. I used my extra time I would be sleeping to work 2 jobs while going to school.

Now, some people see a negative and some make a positive.

    Make LEMONADE people!
