It's just like race horses, if you had a horse one leg shorter than the other and he out ran all the normal horses you'd breed that short leg fucker all you could.

Im saying gameness first above all and then move down the line pay attention to all aspects. Some be like Gameness ha hes taking too long next. When i bought my champion puppy from europe he said they have some lines over there they just focus on mouth but he tells you hes never seen them go over the hour mark they usually quit. I just think Gameness first and then all other traits but we shouldnt just say that one is not important. I have to go to bed wife is giving me shit

Yeah a dog being game is first concern, my only point is confirmation is way down on my list of how I judge a dog and if I keep checking boxes off I'd stop giving a shit about what else before I got to confirmation.

Oh hell yes with out game and health your go'n downhill! No way I'd bred just for mouth, even if you find that bone cruncher how can you bred him hoping his offspring are as good, or even game enough to stay long enough to win!!! I know I've seen it! I once saw A bone cruncher just have to scratch one or two times at the most, released and sit down!!!! TWO things GAME HEALTH, then you have A foundation!! Man trust me it can be disappointing when A planed breeding don't click!

Breeding for conformation has ruined most AKC or show breeds, which generally cannot perform the function the breed once excelled at.

This is when one should look harder at dogs in testing rather than matching. I was always taught if you have one that wins easily, you have to do what you need to do to see him hurt and behind to see how he acts when he shouldn't be happy. Now if your not breeding the dog on your yard you may not care! But if you are breeding your probably looking deeper than just the matchs

I couldn't agree with you more BB. One example, show me a working Golden Retriever line today. Few and far between! Sad to say but breeding for looks/conformation without regard for the dogs working side or original purpose is destroying many working dog breeds.. Look how the AKC recognized AST's have changed in comparison to APBT. Since the split.

I hear what your saying, and some I put more heat on!! Then there are the ones that after 30-40 min. total I've seen all I need to see! There to me worth A cheap match, first time out! If I win 500 great even better if I like what I see, then I open him up for more! Of coarse were talking hypothetically you know pre 1976!!! I wish we could still do that stuff!!!

Plus a good keep should make them better.

Exactly you learn what the dog needs to get him right. No two are the same. I have seen grade dogs used up rolling the heart out of them. Why not match him cheap might be more dog than you thought! That male we went into Drew with didn't have 40 min. all total ! One of the best matches I've seen! That's why it's not easy to make champion after two, a lot of times there not the same as they were the first time out. When A dog has to reach down deep to pull it off I think they loose A little bit they never get back!

Guys i read some articles pre 1976 that said "If the dog cant do for times sake say two in rough company once they would take a serious look at that dogs career in the brood pen. Also equal importance should be payed to the to the other dog he should be bigger, rough but no need for a bone cruncher you want to give him a hard time not kill him. Just by withstanding these physicall and mental pressures you will see what you got by how he acts in the corner, is he having fun, his body language there really is alot to know. You guys know there are some out there that will do this alot more than once but he aint good enough cause his mouth sucks or hes stupid but you know what i would put that dog on a pedestel before a Fastlaner or anything. This should only be done by experienced people from pre 1976 in pre 1976

This is the 'gas tank' theory. Basically all dogs have a gas tank. Some run out quicker than others. Some go long distances and 'all of a sudden' run out. Some make it to where they were going and still have some gas left.
