There IMO is nothing wrong with selling what you put your time, money, sweat, tears and blood into. People do it with everything from cars to houses, crafts to foods so why is it when it comes to dogs everyone's perception automatically changes to a bad perception. That has always boggled my mind. No one in there right mind is going to drop a small fortune financially and with their time to just give away what they worked hard on either creating or maintaining. Thats with anything in life not just dogs. I think it just makes people think they are better than others by labeling someone. Well, LA dee da.

It is the negative predisposition about peddlers and mills. Every peddler's dogs are not on the sad dog commercial with Sara McLaughlin singing in the back ground. Some peddlers have immaculate yards, with dogs bred exceptionally well and making a lot of money.

I have no problem with people selling dogs. Heck, more power to them. TG always comes up in this subject. Always. And I always say the guy is a frikkin' genius. He found a niche and has made a mint. If here selling cars or houses, he would be a business icon. He sells dogs so it has to be a bad thing. NOT!

For me, it is no different than the people that make money indirectly off of the dogs. I assure everyone it has not been a mint but I have sold a number of carpet mills over the years. When I put the time and effort into it and the calls were plentiful (and people actually showed up when they promised) I have seen months where I sold 6-7-8 mills. $1500-$2000 a month indirectly off the dogs.

And most that manage to profit spend it right back into the dogs. It is not like I built my house off the mill money. Like a dummy, I usually bought more dogs.

I personally don't have a issue with people selling dogs but I'm sure some of my comments in the past may have painted a different picture.

I will say that I believe that the willingness to sell a dog to almost anybody with the cash is probably the #1 reason for the downfall of our breed. If they weren't so popular they wouldn't be "endangered" the way they are today.

That is the honest truth right there. The only problem is that people are good at being fake and will tell you what you want to hear just to get what they want from you. It's the down side of dealing with people in general.

I don't have any issue about people selling dogs or pups just be smart about it and don't give or sell them to the ding dongs of the world. Lol easier said then done though since people lie and pretend to be what they are not.

Guys I bet we could all make the most purest moves in all parts of our lives but thats living in the clouds i was more wondering who was into this for "yeah i need money and this is why i do it" if no one would breed and let a couple go i would never have a dog and if that man said this is how much i need for him i would reach into my pocket and hand it over. Honestly speaking you think what Garner does is ok

Yes Jacob I do! There are a lot of people on this forum who talk S**T about the man and have never met him or seen his yard. Believe me, TG's yard is full of some Game MF's. I myself have Garner dogs that I feed and right now have a 14 week old male I got from a friend on the east coast. You appear to be one of the TG basher's on this forum. LOL There are plenty of real good working dogs where I am, who either came directly from TG yard or are bred HERE off of his dogs. I never judge someone on someone else's opinion especially from someone on a forum. Words of wisdom " Believe nothing you hear and half of what you see."

Many may get into it for money, but the return is minimal. If you add up all the cost associated with whelping a litter and subtract that from what you make selling the pups chances are it's gonna be a pretty thin margin. I was once told that the real money in dogs is matching. And since I I know no one here has done that since 1976 I'll speak hypothetically. Let's so you've got a race set up 5k to the winner. Well some use a 6 week keep, some 8. Add up the hours you spend working a dog to get ready, then take your winnings, subtract money for after care items then divide what's left by how many hours you worked the dog. Odds are that it's not gonna be a shit ton more than what you make at your job. It has always been the love for the dogs that I have had them.

Tom ain't the only 1 selling dogs man..I don't give a crap about what TG.does. Here goes, I researched and researched until I came up with the best hounds I could.....got them from friends and still paid...no strings attached. 1 in particular i really wanted and purchased all out shipping and all...but I wanted the pup...

Anyways man what I have found in the past...its best not to sell, stuff can come back to haunt you. You never truly can tell what a pup will turn out to be, may just let the good stuff go that money can't replace..just saying. I really don't want to sale a pup for that reason, be like a wasted breeding for me. But if I do it only goes back to them...more or bags of food better this or that.....lil change goes back to them.....no profit for me...

Exactly good post......I just wanted to add that there is NOTHING WRONG with peddling puppies as everyone has there own prerogative and they can do whatever they want to do. I have nothing against T.G. I just use him (jokingly) as a prime example because IMO he is the epitome of a peddler that has withstood the test of time, more power to him.

What I have also noticed is that there is a new trend of people who own other breeds of dogs that are talking as if a puppy mill is illegal, which is far from the truth. A puppy mill is TOTAL LEGAL just as long as you have a business license and your dogs health and sanitary conditions are kept up to a standard.

Actually you are only now starting to see the truth behind my posts because your emotional content that has once blinded you is now subsiding. LOL

Slow down Strat this is a disscussion board i just asked a question about GARNER to get responces. So far on this topic we have everthing from doing it for therapy to, people want to give me money and i have a couple extra pups i could use the cash for vet bills to im a peddler and im proud. At the end of the the day as long as you feel good that all you have to worry about. I dont judge no man or his actions and i defenitly dont care what people think. But all in all I think deep down we all know whats right and wrong.

The people that get into dogs for money normally get out after they find it's going to be a long road to hoe. Now a handful of people have been able to make a living at it, but for every person that did there is probably 2000 that tried and failed. I've got friends that have asked my advice on breeding dogs for profit and my best advice to profit off dogs is: don't get into dogs and count the money you don't spend on the feed bill as profit.

Well I've NEVER sold A dog!!! That being said the few I bought were older and from A close friend, and he barely charged me what he had in them to get them to I think about 16mo.!! I really hated buying them because he was/ and is A friend and A straight shooter, but he had family problems and young children! I also let him know he had access to them later on! The ones I didn't put down that would make A good pet, the owner had to have them fixed on there dime! The ones I have given has always been on the condition that if they were good or wanted to bred I'd have access, and they were not to start breeding them and selling them!!! I stated in the early 70's when I got serious about having my own at that time you could pick up A stone close your eyes spin aroud three time and chuck it and hit A first class dogman (no joke). The thing was also there were few people who really knew what A Pitbull looked like!!! They were NOT paraded up and down the street!!! I remember in the late 70's all these add's coming out! Get your next Grand Champion from me, My stud produces the best fighting dogs, A litter of the elusive Red Nosed Golden Eyed Combat Dogs!! That's when things got bad!! People might have heared old stories, or read Jack Londens-Call of The Wild, but didn't take it that seriously!! Once people started getting Pitbulls just because they had money, that was the beginning of the end!! As you all know there not like A nice hunting dog 90% of top grade pitbulls are only good for one thing! I believe dog peddlers are one of the top reasons things are the way they are! They started hitting the city's killing the neighbors pets, biting people severely that started pitbull hysteria! So much hitting the national news the Animal Lovers saw an opportunity for BIG BUCKS (there the ones who make the big money on these dogs) . Well theres my SOAP BOX SPEACH!! I have these dogs now in my blood! Nobody then and nobody now has the market cornered! I'll confess I'm A degenerate gambler! LOL Before it became illegal instead of rolling them to death, I'd match them cheap $400-$600 tops, just to see if they can win!! If they did next time more, after all these years am I in the black hell no!!! The one and only time I got burned I let A 2X be matched by someone that A close friend co-signed for plus after his second win the word was out he was A bad Oscar! Well he won the third match at Barfields show 82/83, A short time latter it got raided! So I was told the dog was impounded.....then somebody no he headed back to Texas with the dog and he was stolen the next night off his yard......then I got the truth......he sold the dog for A large amount of money.......I looked everywhere for that asshole... last time he was seen was at A show in North East Texas...by A close friends wife she was A little tipsey saw him in the bleachers across the pit pulled her pistol started yelling you stole our friends dog, your A dog thief pointing that big pistol at him well several people freaked calmed her down he jumped in his vehicle and nobody has seen him since! I mean nobody not even his family!! So now that I have just posted this short novel think I can sell it to Harpers?? LOL
