Fly's That Fear Water

We went to Helen GA this past weekend and went to an outdoor restuarant that had bags of water hanging on all the exterior railing. We were curious and asked about it and they said it was for the fly's. I googled it and it is supposed to keep them at bay. Anyone ever heard of this?

 

yeah bro ive heard of it is something thats well spread through the south a folk remedy so to say

it does wrk. We have ziploc bags of water on all the orange and fig trees @ my ol' mans house. If I can remember correctly, the reflection from the sun through the water does something to the vision and detours them away..

 

Holy crap.... does anyone have a pic of any of these bags... i have been going crazy trying to get the flies away....

 

no special bags are needed, but bags with a zip (ziploc) bags then tie to string and hang wherever you want. Its not a miracle or anthing but it helps with the flies. You can even use a clear 2 liter bottle and hang with rope...

I think its called light infraction that detours the flies because of ther complex vision..I dont kno, but it does help.

 

We hang them on our patio.

That's what I read too. The light refraction thing. It magnifies. Well, I just hung some on my front porch last night and I'm going to see if it helps any.

 

i was always told to put a penny in the bag. seems to work ok. i was told the light reflecting through the water off the penny does something to their eyes. i don't know how true it is as i am not an entomologist but hey if it works i guess they why isn't all that important.

 

The restuarant had pennies in there's too, but said it was really the water. Someone else told me they put those little clear stones people use to decorate with in them.
