    I'm easily confused, me :)

  3. Do not encourage the dog to jump or bite during play.

Not every single pit in North America is off game bred fighting lines, I think that is where people that have cooler pits get away with going to dog parks then come to forums like this and post there positive experiences only to be dumped on by all the forum members that have pitbulls bred from fighting lines.

I have found the breed can manage with other Docile dogs
& it's amazing to see a strong Bulldog being sweet with
    other dogs
But id say it's fool hardy and irresponsible to bring any breed of
substantial DOG to a dog park .
Puppies are one thing even young dogs . But there comes that day puppy no more .

^Agreed. I believe when being supervised a lot of these high drive dogs can be very tolerant of other dogs (note I say tolerant not friendly) but leaving them unattended is a recipe for disaster. Also dog parks regularly feature unstable and aggressive dogs so I wouldn't recommend them full stop

Informative, important thread. I'm taking this matter to heart as I've already been lucky and warned.

I have a most challenging situation in my household: 2 dominant, DA, intact females. An APBT and a working line German Shepherd. Good news is both dogs are well people socialized and bonded. Either would be a perfect companion in an active, single dog home.

The APBT was passed from two relatives' households, then to me. I voluntarily took ownership knowing she and my GS were proven DA. I introduced them gradually over several months. The GS is particularly dominant and will bite any other dog, male or female, instantly when challenged. The APBT is less high strung, but will fight at an instant, with far less signaling than the vocal GS. High prey driven dogs. They've already sparred with minor injuries during drive building exercises, when I didn't know better to separate. Yeah they have also slept on top of each other and licked each other, played. But like other posters here, I have no illusions, especially with same sex dogs. The only exercise they do together now is to run and hike with me, on leads. And they are fine together during these activities. Never an off-lead dog park (invented for humans not dogs). A good number of people visiting these parks are ill informed and lazy with dog safety practices anyhow.

Clearly the APBT is hardwired for close combat and hypothetically should be able to defeat the GS in any protracted engagement. But my GS is 20 lbs heavier, taller and faster, and also a hard biting dog. The tissue damage these otherwise sweet natured family dogs can quickly inflict on each other (or on an intervening human) is significant.

I now crate, rotate and maintain vigilance. And I'm improving at reading their pre-aggression signals. No ball, tug, or flirt pole work unless separate. I feed separate. Bones are given only while caged.

Both young adults and a long life to go. We'll see. God Willing.

I had problems with my APBT and our border collie x newfoundland mix. Luckily all turned out well and he made it to 18 years and passed in his sleep. I couldn't let my pit fight it out with another dog she goes after them to kill them. (she was good with our until 2 years old and then after that she wanted to end him.) she hated him it was terrible. There would be piss and shit and blood. It don't recommend letting dogs fight it out. Depending on the dog water can work. (banging two water bowls together.) Splashing a full waterfowl over them. An Air horn.

Hey I got bit by one of those fake "blue pits" Working a the dog park I work at. Fortunately when she saw she had my hand in her mouth and not the dog she instantly let go. Thank GOD I don't own a dog that would bite me I'd NEVER stand for that. They also fortunately don't bite hard.

Fortunately THAT blue dog didn't BITE YOU HARD is how that should read. Dog bites hurt, fuck the color!! If that dog was attacking YOU I'm sure it would have bit you harder. Stick around and read as much as you can!! Some of these guys have had these dogs longer than you and I have been alive. I'm no spring chicken either!! You're in the right place. Search for the questions you might have with the search bar. It will save you time and arguments!!!!!!

  17. In on old thread........

Over the years I've had my share of kennel/yard accidents. Accidents happen but it's important to learn from it. In 30 years I lost one dog and I really beat myself up over it....even to this day.

The pic in my avi is my 1st pit, a old Panama bloodline. I kept him and another dog inside, locked in different rooms. I came home one day to a bloodbath in my house. Somehow someone opened both doors then left the house not knowing. Even though I didn't do it, it is still my responsibility. The Panama dog lived......

So to fix this problem I put simple latches ( don't know the exact name see pic ) on every single door in my house. If I put a dog in a room he is locked in. It's easy to forget what dogs is where sometimes but if it's latched and I go to pull the door open the latch stops me enough to warn me. This method worked perfect when my kids were little too, I put the latch up high where they couldn't reach it.

  18. I keep dogs in the house a lot so I have a extra lock on each door. They are simple to put on and cheap........ I lost one dog, never again.

so let me get this straight ..you locked your kids and bulldogs in a room? LOL just messing with you!

I would never leave one of mine in a room with out being crated. I have seen a few doors eaten and that was after they escaped the kennel.

  20. I agree, I don't leave home while they are in the house ( after that incident ) but I do if I'm home and in the house. And , lol, I've had them rip a door apart too, the cheap indoor type. He just plain wanted out so he ripped a tunnel out for himself.

And no.....dog in room, kid out, lol.
