First off, the cold weather didn't kill your pups. The fact that you failed to move the dam & her pups into a safe, warm, suitable place is what killed the pups. Don't blame the weather when that kind of death is completely preventable...especially when they were knowingly left in it.

As for what could be wrong, your dog may very well have a uterine infection (aka pyometra). IF it is that, left untreated, she will die. Take her to your vet now. The fact that you wouldn't be able to breed her anymore shouldn't be worth more than her life. Her welfare & health come first.

    Mia GOOD POSTING!

    I have several questions?
    Why are you breeding her?
Why did you go out of town for so long right after her pups died?
Maybe you should just get her fixed. Seems you need to learn some more before you do some more damage.

    rocksteady I'll drink to that..

Better question is why didnt you take the female to the vet with the pups as soon as they started dieing or died..

antibotics wont help certain things, and you could have done more harm than good by giving her a shot without knowing what exactly was wrong. (just for future referrence) giving antibiotics when they are not needed is a good way to have a a dog build up immunity to them and then they wont work when the dog really needs them

you need to take her to the vet... like you should have 7 weeks ago..

    Good posts guys.

I just wanted to add that your female probably wasn't in heat. Her privates were probably a little swelled from her recent birth & the bloody discharge was probably from a uterine infection. Get her to the vet ASAP or you may have a dead dog.

As a side note, if you don't have a vet that will work w/ you or don't have the money saved back for these type of emergencies I would respectfully suggest that you don't breed again until you do. It is always good to have to have money saved back or at the very least have a vet you know will work w/ you, b/c things like this do happen & if you aren't prepared, it can cost you your dog's life.

Also, not be be a jerk here, but I didn't read in her post that she left the pups outside. Did I miss something??

Either way, good luck missi & let us know how things turn out!

ABK- I think she may have edited it. Because when I first read it I saw something about the weather and then after Mia replied it was gone.

I was thinking ALL of this when I initially read the post, but quite honestly got too peeved when I was rereading it and decided to just shut my mouth.
Good post, and now I'll plead the 5th!

Question here; have you got her to a vet yet? Don't delay! Good luck.

Forgive me should I seem harsh missi, but you should feel bad! You left those poor innocent babies out in the cold & bred the mother when you didn't have either the money or connections to provide for her care. But that is over & done with now. You did good by asking for advice instead of winging it & letting your dog die. Please do your best to get your female to the vet. That should be your primary concern now.
