No doubt OG, True indeed. Hopefully that goes with out being said. Old school or (new)fastlane if it dont earn its keep its not on my yard and definatley not in my breeding program. I guess it all boils down to the dogman's standards and what they choose to feed. Its not rocket science.

I agree. Got to prove it either way IMO. Good thing I don't have to worry about it since I'm learning to tell gameness just from picking out a 8 week old pup out a litter...

the thread is called fast lane dogs vrs old school stock. that's the thread don't be biased because you have exactly what he is asking about. Personally I think that some of the old school stock will still compete and win.prove it if you think other wise.

Fastlane means you have money to compete with the top dogmen. the means to honor your word and be where you say you're gonna be and do what you say you'll do. The dogs that you can have ready for the show on time. It's pro vs amateur. Behind every fastlane animal is a fastlane owner. That goes for horses, greyhounds, bulldogs pre '76. You could have the best dog, horse or whatever but if your broke, lazy and nobody trusts you, that animal is stuck in limbo unless the right person takes an interest and puts it in the mix.

.. let me tell you a ting or two about reducing time when conditioning a dog..

WE in the old days workt dogs the old fasion way.90 day keeps 5 hours work on a day. we did the mayfield keep the grenshaw keep. and later the ""golden keep"of jack Kelly.

Many a new comer then and iven today was looking backwards when looking for the right way to condition a dog.

As it is back then there was a guy who was real good with aproching conditioning one. he cut the work load douwn from 90 days to 42 days. 6 days a week 1 day of. he workt a dog no longer at its peak . with a hour walk and 1 hour treadmill. to get the same iven BETER results. doing these classic conditioning methods wich where upto 5 hours aday work in some cases.. RAW meat diets where cut back to 1/4 lbs of lean minst beef/dear/goat meat. together with 1/5 lbs spinage and drij kibble. and some riced if needed. the restwas Kibble. So ANYBODY who think raw diet was never never fed is wrong!!...

later the work load was reduced iven more. sins a stript douwn healthy dog on the chain could partisiopate in a sporting evend for 25 min, befor exaustion!!. when giving a dog a 2 weeks pre keep and on weight he could go for 35 min till exaustion.

It made comon sense that the old fasion way in working dogs that long(90 days upto 5hours) was rediculess knowing most dogs could not perform as wel ore shown the mouth when healthy of the chain!!.

a diferend aprochs was sought for. and that aprochs was LESS CAN BE MORE!!.

The work load was cut back to 2 ore iven 3 days work and one day of!!.insted of 6 days work 7th day rest. Dogs where NEVER workt more then 70% of what there internal battery had!.

Work started at the aczackt same time as the sporting evend was supost to take place. THIS umonst others to condition the MIND and the BODY to get used to led of energy at a pre set time!!.

Rubbing a dog douwn 15 min with a special rubdouwn tonic was used to warm the dog up and stretchst there muscle. to avoid muscle tears and getting shorter les flexing muscle . The dog was workt of a HIGH pace power walk where he pulled in a harnas (NEVER ON A COLLAR). This to enhanse muscle strenght durabilety and to give the dog the right air fuel intake to be able to do so. Because a choking collar will produce lactic asid build up!!... shortening stamina

Afther the hour of power walk the dog got a 15 min rest!!. prefeureble another rubdouwn.

then the mill sesion started at 5 min .Increasing it with 2 to 3 min a day. when the dogs reached the 15 min mark he got a 30 sec full trottle gallop!!.with a lure!

When the lure was out of sight , stopwach timing was used to mesure the time he needed to get back in the Trot and how long it took to recuver while working the mill trot.

So mesurinmg recuvery time while working!!!!

every 7th min he got another 30 sec full trottle galop In the build up witch at its peak lasted no longer then 45/60 min.

feed and suplemends was specific choosen and bij trail and error it was found out that to buld up hemoglobine(red blood cell count) we needed to feed the dog natural wite-E 4 hours befor workout!! To give the dog a great fast start and to prolong his first wind!!.

feeding the dogs liquit iron as that wil enhansed red bloodsell count(hemoglobin). in his feed ,but you can NOT feed these suplemds together as they neutrolize ecother!!.. The intyer keep feeding / suplemd program was based on a long high pace first wind/

Wich would last 4 to 10 min longer then the oposition in a sporting evend during given day!!. No matter how long this sporting event lasted. the outcome was most of the time detirmined and viseble around the 25/30 min mark.

as it would be the same looking at 2 ,500 hp cars.

one of the cars needed to shift at 5000 rpm while the other car with the same hp could shift at 6000 rpm talking a lead with every gear SHIFT!!. Is that sientific aprouch enoughf for you!!!!!. harth rate was mesured as wel. in his tapering douwn days .

workload was cut in half so every day for 3 days he saved up 50% of his energy!!. from wichs he was used to trow out. Then on rest day a dog would be full of himself alredy and at the necst day when his mind and body was used to start another 3 day sesion of work he was redy!!. BUT peak performance was short it had to be used in a time span of 4 hours. befor dogs would slowly lose there peak state of conditioning...

low builk feeding was the key as wel as the pre diguested kibble with suplemends wichs gave the dogs a beter and faster recuvery time during resting. times where messured how long it took for the dog to come out of his doghouse prior to workouts.

in doing so man could detirmin if the dog was getting close to getting stale ore being pushed to fast ore to far with his high pase workloads... Ore if he was spot on!!!. and ofcours man could antisiopate on that knowing these results. looking at a dogs tail on a mill ore during his 30 min cooling douwn walk and see if he would walk like a camel would tell you enoughf as wel.. as did the hight of his tail tell you how drained the battery was....

blood counds where done every week. to chek kidneys liver hemocrite. to messure a dogs progress.

iven body temparature, as the real dog man know that a dog wil 9 out of 10 times subcome to internal HEAT and not due to fisicel trauma. A core temp of 109 degrees fahrenheid is deadly and your dog wil not sirvive.

i can go on and on. but please dont tell me todays ways of the younger crouwed ore pepsi cola generation is beter superior then some of this stuf mentiond above... as most tricks are not sheared bij actif oldtimers to other people....

I have put sientific proofe of feeding drij kibble on this forum based on greyhound racing but i belive it was deleted!!.

sure there was is room for raw meat but only as suport as a protien sours to be put in together with drij kibble.

last but not least

No way in hel can you EVER balanse a raw high bulk meat diet out where every chunk of feed is as balansed as every tiny little pellet of kibble containing the same below, witch HAS been sientific divelopt in order to have dogs perform at the best as there talend gives them. given to dog who race upto 100.000 usd.... diguesting is the same. as there are no diferend meats and other stuf from who we know need diferend times to diguest and be ubsorbt bij the dogs.. and this is only the BASSIS from where man can and need to customize the diet with the varius typs of suplemends in order to tailer made wat is best for the individual dogs.

Limey I agree with a lot of what u are saying here.Back in the day a lot of dogmen was using Armtigages 30 years of fighting dogs keep in his book almost to the letter.Some would substitute miles for minutes in the walking with very little rest.I always found that rest was one of the most important parts missing from a lot of dogmens keeps. If a dog is well rested they will be stronger , have more energy ,and work harder during workouts.In the end the dog will show better if well rested.

There is no perfect plan formula or keep . Dogs are individuals and must be treated as so when work is conserned. If you're dog is flat he needs to rest or his nutrition needs to change. You as a conditioner need to develop an eye for this.

I give my dogs rub down before and after each workout and I only handwalk them.
I'm still not getting where you need 4 or 5 hours in a day to work a dog to his correct weight.
