well considering capones grandsire was the dog to later be known as mayfields nigger ,it seems you paid them a compliment , infact if u look at capones ped u can see he is a heay tudor bred dog ,but then i forgot ur not really a breeder and have little understanding of the subject , but at least ur best dog a bitch was more mayfield than anything else , but just cos u personally didnt see a pit general from danns yard u wont see past that , and dont understand that what mayfield created in his family is of importance ,just like the heavy heinzl dogs still bred in arizona , these dogs have a greater genetic value to the breed than all the other outcrossed scatterbred dogs ,u just need to understand why .

I was replying to "what happened to all that reid blood". If you'd had listened to Don you would of known that he said capone was not bred the way his pedigree shows.:rolleyes: Dann and Reid bred and sold hundreds of dogs, many going to pet homes.Of the folks who worked their dogs the skipper dogs were far more sucessful than mayfields dogs do you not wonder why this was ???

Reid's Skipper being 7x Kingfish probably had a lot to do with it... Crossed with Carver... OH JEZIZ!

i wonder let me think , could it be that the reid dogs outnumbered mayfield dogs by 100/1

out of those that were worked from reids stuff....im thinking gar that the 100-1 comment is fooking waaaaaaay off the mark!!....as said.....many went to pet homes....those that didnt done well.....i surely wouldnt put that down to luck....

yes many reid dogs went to pet homes , but just look back at the match reports from pbn and the very high % of dogs being matched were of reid dogs or crosses of them, very few mayfield dogs were matched in comparison to them.

because the mayfield dogs were not of match quality perhaps ???
there was certainly shed loads of them bred. dann bred just as many, if not more litters than reid ever did

Scotsman's Ch.Max.. Redeye's Charlie 2xw, Yarrakins CH.Curstopper and Junkyard's Gr.Ch.Bill all came from pet homes... I sometimes wonder how many other dogs like them got sent to pet homes that were denied the opportunity to both shine and produce?
PS.. I do agree with Sunbeam... GR.CH.Bill was Reid bred only through Buster.. Funnily enough Junkyard J sold Bill to a young lad for £100 after clearing out all the Reid bred shit from his yard to make room for Hoss/Pedro dogs like CH.Massada... ;)

dann bred many litter yes , but he bred a mix of pure and crossed litters ,and many litters of just bolio dogs or litters that had no mayfield in them whatsoever.
and as far as the amount goes ,he never sold anywere near the amount that ed reid did ,and one reason was were he lived, and for most people who bought these dogs ,ed was far esaier to get to , but as to the mayfield dogs match quality ,you really are very green arent you ,did you even see them for yourself ,or do you believe all you are told.I think that the mayfield/tudor dogs are more proven than all the other families ,as mayfiled proved his understanding during his time ,and he didnt change bloodlines when he stopped ,so maybe the mayfield dogs in the uk didnt live up to all expectations , but i never had to many bad ones ,so maybe its also down to a number of factors ,of which schooling is a big part ,and like i said the ones that lost in the uk ,were not all losing by quiting, more often they lost because they were what i call stupid game ,but ive seen all the so called flavour of the month families ,and i take the long term view on breeding ,and i wont change my bloodstock for any of the others ,not because they arent good dogs , but because my understanding has taken me to this point .

gar, i started out with mayfield dogs from dann.i saw plenty of others too.there were and are far better pit dogs over here than those dogs imo.if you want to stick with them then knock yourself out, its no skin off my nose as i do not want any part of them dogs again, but if a question is asked i think i have a valid view seeing as i have owned dogs from the line myself.
i never owned a dog from ed reid but saw a few, some good, some bad, some ugly. i am not championing his ways but the fact is the reid dogs were more competative than the dogs dann was breeding from the purest family, the history books will show you that.

The bucksin dog here was grandsired by al capone top and bottom, the pic was taken circa 87/88 the brindle bitch was reid stuff too, though I don't personally consider 'reid' as a bloodline per say. I visited his house 'shop' several times in the early days where he had weight pulling shows etc going on in the back yard, He was a nice enough guy but I think His main strength or 'talent' was in marketing a 'brand'......... not dogs.

Sure some good dogs were around the the reid name tagged on.
