For the sake of fairness may I say Hagar and Yogi's brother (Huc) quit v's Jacko.. The very same dog scratched game maybe 24 times v's Limey's Kelly 1xw but poor Huc will always be remembered as a cur :)

Oldguy you can't compare Sheena Black to any of the dogs you mentioned. Sheena was ahead all the way and quit on top, everyone felt she would quit and she did eventually. The other dogs took a right thrashing before stopping, in the case of Bo coming back to win tough shows in longer times than the one he lost.

  3. if the dogs you mentioned quit in 20 mins im sure they would not be in so many peds and your wrong about huck nobody will remember him

  4. blueboy said it all, was talking on the phone when sent message before I seen blueboys post

OK BB, Thanks for that.. I wasn't there so can't give an informed opinion.. 'The truth should be tested but never denied'.. Sheena quit v's Fox and that's a fact.. Klogger quit v's Charlie and Huc quit v's Jacko.. There was more Reid crosses than the ones from Scotsman's Max and they too had their share of curs.

Well you never remembered Huc for sure AB and that was unfortunate since I was talking about Jacko and you were talking about the dogs bred down from Scotsman's Max.

  7. oldguy every line will throw curs but was huck not jacko,s hardest going 45 mins until he met curstopper, I don't want to spoil this thread by going round in circles so good luck to you

When ppl talk of Reid or the dogs down from him. It's usually the same old dogs generally speaking because they were hyped up in the mags and not many younger ppl know of others. Two of my favourite's would be Lady that beat Limey's Ch Dutch and the DG Hustler 2xl. Hustler I felt was the personification of gameness, he came in 2lbs light both times, without those handicap's I felt he could've won both his outings with Ch's Yogi & Dino.

Do you know BB I was gonna mention Hustler earlier in this thread but I got distracted somewhere (usual for me) and I was never sure of his breeding although I knew he was some kind of Reid breeding... I agree with all you said about him, one of the reasons I liked CH.Dino was his breeding but also because he beat Hustler.. I saw Hustler v's Yogi and I rated him HIGHLY! Clearly smaller than Yogi but nobody told him that.. Hustler was the yard stick by which I measured the quality of Dino because I wanted pups by CH.Dino but I say without fear or favour it was an absolute honor to have seen Hustler.

Hustler was by Mcguigan 2xw 1xl DG to Ch Dutch pushing 3lbs if I remember right, his dam was Tara (Skipper x Beaut). Mcguigan was by Scrapper 1xw in 2 hours, Mcguigan's dam was Star. Hustlers brother was Ch Jed.
It seems to me the Scrapper dogs are almost forgotten in the mist of time. Probably down to the fact they weren't as hyped up by their owners in the mags. But to me they were every bit as good and game as anything bred down from what Reid sold. IMO only two dogs sold by Reid ever produced consistantly Scrapper & Max.

That's great info BB.. Well that was my point really, there was many more Reid dogs/crosses than those bred down from Scotsman's Max and while they were good dogs without question, what about CH.Jed, CH.Jacko, Scar Kennel's CH.Max, Wigan Lad's Lady 2xw, Reid's Cracker 2xw, Hustler 2xl, Gunning's Dutchess 2xw, GR.CH.Shelley who's dam was Reid and GR.CH.Bill who's sire was Reid.. It always seemed the only Reid dog worthy of note was Curstopper, fine by me since I liked the dog, but there were others just as good and maybe even better.. IMO this thread has come closest yet to offering younger people a better understanding of the 'proven' dogs that still get people talking about Ed Reid, no matter what their opinions of the man are.

Buzz over his daughter if remember correctly or maybe I'm just wishing he was bred that way but I think I'm right? :) I rated the Buzz x Reid cross highly, would like to have given that combination a shot.

  16. To put some clarification as to why some people believe why Don Mayfield*s bloodline has not stood the test of time in the UK. To put things into perspective as to what was happening around that time a lot of unwanted publicity arrived on the game dogs doorstep originating from the likes of E Reid, M Dann and every Tom Dick and Harry getting in on the act of selling the game dogs too anybody who had the money . Through this selling to the public a lot of unwanted publicity was upon us that we have never recovered from. Some people from around that time will remember what happened next. The animal right activist along with relentless propaganda from the media was the cause of having the Dangerous Dog Act 1991. Most of those selling at this time curred out putting most of the game dogs down even Champion Max as these curs did not want to face the heat, for the selling as they knew it was coming to an end just like the P.B.N. The media boasted 10,000 were destroyed, some were moved here and there, but that is what happened at that time a genocide of the game dogs and all lines suffered badly because of this. All have been crossed since I give credit to those who continue to breed and work the dogs of today in the face of adversity. I believe our dogs of today are as good as any of the past and our conditioning has surpassed any from the past. I believe in giving credit when credit is deserved, I believe in looking forward to breeding the next good dog. I know a guy who probably had the best inbred female out of the Nelis and Tug lines. He was a buddy of Springview who had the Popeye dog at this time. He never matched or rolled a dog in his life, there was nobody he didn*t know and he knew about almost every match that took place at that time. He was proficient like you would not believe but a fireside general and that is what he was about, but a nice guy. I have a question for you Old Guy when was the last time you had a dog between your legs in the pit and do you have anything that resembles a Reid dog besides a photograph about you or are you just passing the time sitting close to the fire reading up. A friend phoned me around 89, a so called big player wanted to match into us. Females 39Ibs £3000 big money to us then and still is. He curred out when we said yes, it is still the same way. I personally will not be taking part in any more of this writing as you are clearly keyboard warriors. I*ll let that fall to the experts.

Jeziz all blacks! Post #526 must have really got to you huh? You should have just left it where we agreed to disagree, you even wished me good luck but then you had to spoil it by throwing all your toys out of the pram.. What kind of question is that to ask on a public forum???.. "Old Guy when was the last time you had a dog between your legs in the pit and do you have anything that resembles a Reid dog" Are you smoking crack?

Call me naïve but I actually thought everyone on here was just passing time, sitting by the fire and sharing opinions on the old days but then you come out with something like that??? I'm honestly relieved you won't be posting on here anymore and because I now believe you're either a rat or a copper, neither will I.. Goodbye chump and thanks again to all the grown ups who posted... Keyboard Kennels Out! :)
