PITT COUNTY -The Pitt County Sheriff's Office is investigating allegations of animal cruelty involving 10 pit bulls and dog fighting.

Officials charged Malcolm Wiggins with nine counts of animal cruelty after a neighbor called to report dogs fighting.

Deputies said animal services arrived and found 10 pit bulls living in "unsanitary conditions."

Investigators say all animals were without food, some were without water. The pit bulls were also tied up with heavy duty chains, according to deputies.

"There are some old and fresh injuries that could lead you to suspect they tangled with something of some form. I can't say this is a big dog fighting ring but however there are injuries that are consistent with what you would think of dogs fighting with something," said Michelle Whaley, with Pitt County Animal Services.

Wiggins is set to be in court in early February.

i think i could represent myself in that case...lol
complete shit - maybe dude had an accident -
now you cant keep dogs and have an accident without being a dog fighter...
most of society probably does let their dogs free feed....but those same dogs are overweight, worthless animals for a function of any sort, but hey - people are sissies these days -

All them dogs out in the open for every body to see, it was just a matter of time.
There was no privacy at all.

No, not BS. A lot of dogmen in the past free-fed their dogs when not in a keep.
By free-feeding, unless the dog was underfed as a pup, they actually eat less, and only eat when hungry.
It also takes away the "wild-dog syndrome," which causes dogs to eat everything before them, since they do not know when they will get their next meal.
More dogs are overweight from lazy owners than anything else, as well as scheduled feeding.

"Don't knock it until you've tried it," rings a bell here. What works for one may not work for another.
But to say it is BS without having tried it over a period of years with multiple dogs is plain wrong, IMO.
I have nothing against scheduled feedings, but just prefer to free feed mine. I have seen better results.

After re-reading I think I misinterpreted what you meant stinkrock.

If authorities found empty dishes, that means the dogs ate the food before they got there.

But free feeders are a way to counter these accusations of abuse and neglect.

Worst part I saw on the post was the bottom portion of idiotic FB posters....the internet makes them feel they know it all, that their words have value if they get votes.

Only prob I've encountered with free feeding is ants and other pest, as well as a few dogs that would overindulge

For every dogmen in the past that free fed there dogs when not in keep there were more dogmen that didnt free feed there dogs.

Here is the thing free feeding wont work for all dogs because some dogs will indulge themselves too much and wont be able to control there weight BUT not free feeding a dog will work for ALL DOGS because you are the one controlling his feed intake/weight. I see no Pros for free feeding that actually benefit the dog as there are only cons.

Also I guess heavy chains are considered abuse by those A.R. activist but yet they can keep a dog in a 2X3ft crate for 12-24hrs a day 7 days a week LOL.

Also only AR activist will use the free feeding bullshit to accuse and condemn someone.

not to mention birds - the starling birds will come in the winter and take advantage of the "unfrozen" water bowls..

the dogs enjoy watching the birds and tolerate them, but what if they get the bird flu from drinking water a bird may have shit in..lol

Now - if the birds would eat the dog shit - i could deal with it, but they dont want to help in that aspect - you would have to leave the shit long enough for the flies to lay egs and the larva hatch - then the birds may pick through it.

different strokes for different folks -

Mice, rats, bugs, moisture, spilt food, and fat dogs would be the reasons I would free feed, or ignorance is a better reason...

I always leave the food bowls out on the yard by the dog's spot so nobody could every say something like "there wasn't even bowls around, not sure if they get fed". But if there is a bowl there then it's obvious the dog ate, like was stated above. I've never free fed and never will.

Yeah, I have had an over-indulger, who would have eaten himself to death, so couldn't free feed him ever.

That makes no sense at all. I have seen people busted for cruelty when they leave dogs in small crates, yet when they go to AC they are put in them.

For the most part, I think animal rights (animal worshipers) people have mental issues. They throw in the good with the bad, and view us all alike, if we do not spoil and baby the dogs.
Heavy chains, or even having a dog outdoors, has been considered abuse by some animal rights nuts. In a year they will come up with more forms of abuse.

that aint no shit there - left in wire crates they say, but they sell the damn things at local stores with ASPCA tags on them - what the hell will make them happy?? our beloved dogs on display at a damn zoo..that makes me think of this

I think you misunderstood what I wrote.

Exactly just like I stated free feeding can cause obesity in certain dogs.

Exactly my point again why can the AC leave the dogs in crates but we cant?

I agree again that AR nut jobs have mental issues lol.

I also agree that AR nut jobs like to make up there own gospel truth LOL.
