i know a little bit about dogos, but not enough to make any final judgements. i always use my dogs for hunting boar. (except lil buddy:( R.I.P. Beau Beau) and from the people i have talked to say that they make exceptional hunting companions where wild boar is concerned. i have no clue as i don't have any hands on experience. was curious if anyone has any actual experience with them as hunting dogs and what your opinions might be. from all aspects of consideration they seem to make great hunting partners. thanks :)

  2. My brother has one and she is badass at hog hunting.
She finds them and catches them.
One day he came home from a day at work, and she caught and killed a deer herself!

My only experience with them is as a pet, but I've heard really good things about them as hunting dogs. The National Geographic channel had a show recently -- Explorer: the Science of Dogs, I think -- which opened with a part about Dogos and showed them hunting pigs. If you have satellite or whatnot, you might want to look and see if they're replaying it anytime soon. (It shows up on Dish as simply "Explorer," so you have to read the description.)

All I can say as per my personal experience is that they're really cool dogs. We've got an 8-year-old who had to stay with my mom in St. Louis, and he still behaves like a puppy in his autumn years. Very smart and willing to please, soft towards family, a bit hard-headed at times, and a lot of drive and intensity. Really good dogs.

thanks! i hope there are more people with experience, but you two summed up pretty much everything i have come to understand so far. don't get me wrong here, i am an APBT lover and die hard fan at heart, but i still am interested in other working breeds. i did some research on presa canarios, but i decided that they weren't what i would eventually want on my yard. they seem by all regards to be very athletic, but at the same time the only use i have seen for them is in a guard dog type of role. i have been doing some research also on spanish alanos. very interesting so far. yall should look into them. seem like really cool dogs. thanks again!
