Nothing is ever perfect but a few stories about man biters for whatever reason out of all the dogs from the past century isn't a bad reflection on the breed considering the stress the dogs are put through.

The accidents are never game dogs that's the problem people don't know what an apbt is, that's the real problem

That's exactly why I said what I said. For all the thousands of game dogs it's the same stories about Bullyson, Zebo or Yellow John. So out of all 40-50 years we only get 2-3 bad stories about a manbiter. Leads me to believe that it's not an issue with game dogs at all.

The fact that you don't even know that Zebo wasn't Bullyson father means you probably shouldn't be talking dogs period. Save me the "I been around these dogs all my life" line. You simply need to learn more. Zebo was proven in this game in more ways than one. It's a reason, Lonzo, Lester, Adams & Johnson didn't put him down.

I have a problem when people speak of shit they have no knowledge of. Like you stating Zebo was a cur, where is your proof? Then you said his best son was Bullyson lmaaoo.. Weak minded people try to portray to be something they are not. Like you portraying to be some sort of dogman.

The people that created the breed lol. One of the dog's Godfathers Colby had a dog kill a family member. He kept on with the dogs so don't tell us about the originals.

I hear you and yes I would love them all to be trustworthy, smart, relaxed and then the perfect machine when the time calls for it. I don't care if my dog enjoys a belly rub from neighbors bc the way I view it. He should never meet or be around my neighbors, that's what the Bichon is for lol. If anybody wants a community dog I would suggest a Lab, Retriever or one of those dogs. Game dogs have their purpose and when you move away from that purpose is when you start getting worthless street mutts.

I'm not saying that all dogs should be crazed and want to attack anything moving, that's not what I mean. A dog being friendly to me but not to you don't make him a manbiter to me. He's my dog so I'm cool with him. A dog that focuses more on a person than their prey is useless anyway. My thing is just because he's a little over zealous means nothing to me when evaluating him as a bulldog. I'm surely not gone put down Virgil, Zebo or Bullyson as I'm sure there is a reason Gambler, Lester, Lonzo, Johnson, Adams, Bobby, Red Walling & Clemmons never put down those dogs.

Because all those guys were there first-hand and know all details of what happened, not just hearsay passed on by word of mouth. As in they prob know it wasn't 100% on the dog

Like a few of you have stated, pitdogs are completely different animals than someone's pet with the vast majority of them being absolutely trust worthy with wonderful dispositions. That being said, if a dogman has a pitdog that is exceptional but the dog is high strung and people aggressive most dogmen will occasionally overlook it depending on how good of an individual he is. The dog was bred to be a pit winner and if he has all of the tools needed to win the owner may keep and utilize him. It's no different than a race horse, most true race horses are a handful to handle but they were bred to be raced, not for pulling children on hay rides. The key here is I'm describing dogmen and not the majority of bulldog owners, dogmen keep their dogs healthy, parasite free, well fed, housed comfortably and keep them quarantined either by chain or by a kennel, our dogs are not the ones attacking the people in the news. If a dogman's dog gets off the chain he's going straight to one of the other dogs on the yard, not to your neighbor's yard. I hear a lot of people criticizing others for keeping a Zebo, Bullyson, etc but the truth of the matter is they were exceptional pitdogs and their owners saw their value. A few were passed around because there was risk involved in owning them but the owners were willing to assume the risk. I guess I may be in the minority but I trust that Maurice, Bobby Hall, Floyd, Lester, Don, Danny etc had enough sense and judgment that allowed them to keep a man biter from time to time. I'm not a proponent of man biters but if I were to have one that was the quality of a Zebo, Bullyson, Bolio, Goodyear, etc I would keep him and go to extra lengths to ensure he does not get out and pose a hazard to strangers.

    Well said.

It seems the first thing people forget is these were always about winning. Breeding for gameness and traits and stability is what people talk about.

Tons of dogs that win, and are perpetuated, were never known to be game.

Lots of dogs had some people issues but could win, so the idea of winning carried a lot more weight.

For me, and it is all about personal opinion, and person preference. But to me Molly Bee was the greatest match dog of all time. She went out 8 times. She put something on 8 different bitches that did not scratch back. No other dog ever.

Pro: Maybe the baddest bitch of all time.

Con: Who knows if she would have scratched back. Who knows whether she would scratch if she had to take what she gave?

I'm a nobody, know nothing in these dogs and I have seen a number of curs with wins.

It is all about the win.

Honorable win. No below the belt. No shortcuts. IF we focus on the win and breed win to win and lose the depth you might end up with like dogs that are winning curs. But yes you will have win. If you could live with that i guess
