so i asked to do an xray when i called to make my appointment tonight and they said they ran ultrasound and didnt see no kidney stones ? not sure if i still need to do an xray? they now want to do a biopsy. is this really needed?

Well they look for the obvious signs and if they can't find anything it needs a closer look.

Just got back from the vet. They looked at the urine and siad they didnt see any bacterial but didnt do a urine culture. She says she is 95% sure its a urethral prolapse and wants to do the surgery and neuter him and says it will cost me $1600.... as an estimate. im not sure what to do.... im low on funds and im not sure if this vet knows what she is doing.. how the fuck are you going to tell me that your 95% sure... and not even do a urine culture, just look at the urine and not see any bacterial in it.

she didi the xrays and ultrasound and saw no stones and says the prostate is a normal size for an intact dog.


not sure what to do... i really love this dog but he is just a pet and if im paying 1500$ and she said theres still a chance that the urethral prolapse can come back then im not sure what to do.... tears me up....

I don't suppose they have some type of payment plan? Anything? Feel bad for you...worse for the dog. Exercise all your options is all I can say....and get some more info about the procedure if there's any doubts.

Get in touch with the vet college,and explain to them everything,short of funds/etc/etc...and see how ya get on......or ask as above said,,...........................

The vet will also work with you on the final cost, have them give you an estimate and you go from there. Often they tack on all sorts of charges and want to keep your dog overnight a day or two post surgery to make sure nothing happens and that shit is expensive and you can just take em home and monitor him. I personally wouldn't do it if the dog was acting normal. Another thing you can consider is get pet insurance which can take a month I think to kick in and since it doesn't seem life threatening at this point you can afford to wait? Try changing the food and try some antibiotics and see if it goes away on it's own. Good luck.

My senior Great Dane had this problem and was diagnosed with Prostatitis. The vet's solution was having him neutered. It did stop the bleeding but I was very nervous about having a 7 year old, giant breed put under.

However, doesn't seem your dog is having the same problem. I agree with everyone else. Talk to the vet about a payment plan.

" Hey bro sorry for not getting back to you I have been really busy.. The X-ray would show if the prostate is enlarged. They can do a rectal palpating to feel if it is modular or abnormal. As far as going to a vet school you will pay a lot more there due to most of the doctors being specialists. This is however the place to go to find the correct answer but it won't be cheap. This really doesn't sound like a prolapse of the urethra as normally you wouldn't see this much bleeding going on. Google images of urethral prolapse in canines and see for yourself. Biopsy would definitely be the next step and neutering would be a good idea as it would save you an extra anesthesia charge if you where to do it later on. I would definitely take him to a specialist to find out the correct answer and fix this once and for all and it would be much safer to have the specialist do the biopsy."

look my dog had cancer go get him checked . the dex was to help him pee . he would pee straight blood at first then it would clear up with the more pee coming out . every time he would pee this happen . so the dex stopped it but it did loose the dog . so go to the vet and tell them what's going on and that you want to make sure he doesn't have cancer so they need to check that to . good luck

yea but id rather a specilized vet see my dog so he or she knows what exactly the issue is and is not 90% sure what it could be like my current vet.. i want someone who knows his or her shit!

If the college is a teaching vet school they may take your animal on as teaching class for students,,thats how it works,,so you go with the dog and tell them the score don't bother ring jus show up with the hound,,if he is suffering they won't turn you a-way......................ya tell em the dog was driping blood that morning,,etc/etc//////////////////////////??????????........next time we hear from ya,, your going to tell us how ya got on..good luck

called up 5 vet schools and none of them offer any discounts to demonstrate a prolapsed urethra surgery for students.

my hound is fucked.

your dog is ok if you got the money and why haven't you got the dog to the vet yet ? because it's seems like your taking along time and all 1 has to do is go to the vet and start looking for an answer . check the blood

Your telling me there is no damn vet on this forum to give me advice? And how can i take my dog to the vet if i dont get paid till next friday. I have no money, im broke. now my dog has to wait till next friday till i get paid. I DONT HAVE MONEY TO KEEP SPENDING ON BULLSHIT VETS. I HAVE NO OTHER OPTIONS.

WhAT YOU WANT ME TO DO? DROP MY DOG OFF AT A SHELTER WHERE HE WILL BLEED ALL OVER THE COLD FLOOR WITH CONSTANT DOGS BARKING AT HIM AND THEN PUT TO SLEEP? NO ONE IS GOING TO ADAPT A 6 YEAR OLD DOG AND PAY FOR HIS SURGERY.

so now my hound has to wait till next friday till i get paid since all of these vets want money upfront before they do anything with him. thats my only option.

unless any of you want to donate to me and ill give you the vets number that you can call them and pay for my vet bill.
