So should i be worried that the dumb dog got ahold of some chocolate. She at 6 cookies that had chocolate kisses on the top of them. Is there anything i can expect or to worry about.

Well it is toxic for dogs. I am not sure that the cookies contained enough chocolate to be worried about or not. How old is the dog? How much actual chocolate did the dog consume. Watch the dog for a few hours. If it shows any signes at all of being ill or having problems of any sort breathing or what ever get that dog to the vet. I have seen people give older dogs small amounts but the dogs were really fat and I am thinking the dog was like its owner. It would eat any thing fast and lots of it. However a normal sized dog. I am not sure how much is too much. I would feed it to counter the caffene and sugar though. Damn thing may be bouncing off the walls soon. Call poison control they should know how much is too much and how much is something not to worry about. Sorry never been in that boat. My dogs only get into beer and wine some times. lol Wish I knew the amount to be concerned about.

I'm sure she'll be just fine.

    According to Dog Owner's Digest:
"Milk chocolate: 1 ounce per pound of body weight. Approximately one pound of milk chocolate is poisonous to a 20-pound dog; one-half pound for a 10-pound dog. The average chocolate bar contains 2 to 3 ounces of milk chocolate. It would take 2-3 candy bars to poison a 10 pound dog. Semi-sweet chocolate has a similar toxic level."

That's a hell of a lot of chocolate!

Find out about other types of chocolate here.

She should be alright at 38 pounds. Just make sure you keep an eye on her. The darker/more pure chocolate is worse. I'd hold off on the poison control unless you really have to. I called them once bacause Mia ate two 64.8mg tablets of Phenobarbital (sp?) that I had for a dog I was boarding and they charged me 50 bucks to tell me she might be groggy. It took them almost an hour to make sure they got the money before they told me. Geeze, I'm glad she was fine because she'd probably be dead an hour later if she wasn't.

Well CB looks like you have nothing to worry about. That is allot of chocolate. that much would kill me as well. shit.

Good job JCa for the find on that information. Good deal.

So did she drink your milk too?. Gotta have the milk to eat cookies. lol. I actually don't like sweets. I am a hot pepper and spicy food eater. I am a carnavore.

That stuff is scary. It's just like your kids getting into something-NERVERACKING!!!

That site says dark chocolate is the worst, and white chocolate is the least potent (and the best tasting IMO!).

You have to pay them now? Shit that sucks. What the hell. That isn't cool so when your kid eats all your meds you have to pay them to tell you if your kid is going to die or not? shit that is crazy. Back in the 70's you called and they just told you. Hell with that. Castoroil will make anything vomit out what it ate. There that settles it. lol

I thought white chocolate was just almond butter?

LOL, she had to have washed it down with something. Those must have been some damn good cookies! Good thing it was just a little-she's so beautiful!

    OT-
I like spicy food too, Atilla. I went to Chili's the other night and the waiter recommended the Monterey Chicken to me. He said he usually asked the cooks to add a little more spice when he eats it-I took his word for it, and that was the hottest piece of chicken I have ever eaten. It could have been a huge habanero pepper in disguise for all I know. I must have drank 5 glasses of milk with my meal.

    From Wikipedia:
"White chocolate is a type of chocolate, based on cocoa butter without the cocoa solids. It also includes milk solids, sugar, lecithin, and flavorings (usually including vanilla)."

    (Damn, I love Firefox!)

The FDA's definition of white chocolate is here. It mentions something about possibly having "nut meats" in it. I guess it all depends on where you get it from.

Like I said before I had to pay before they would even tell me. Everything is about money now. Next time I'm just going to wake up my vet.

Lol JCa. Fire fox. I have that on my other computor. Thought about it on this one but I don't want to mess with this one it has two hard drives and that gets tricky. I know rifles and pistols, well all weapons and explosives too. So what I see is there are two forms of white chocolate one that I thought and one that is probably the original method of obtaining it. Need to go to switzerlund to get the good stuff. How is that spelled in English again?

Dang it is raining hard here like a cow pissing on a flat rock.

You know that is right. for sure. My vet doesn't mind being woke up. He better not as he has woke me up before also to help him with livestock wit a breach or some other sort of issue. Hell I delivered one by pushing it back in and getting its head lined up to come out. It had its head back and only the front legs came out not good. He got there about ten minutes after I was done wiping it down and helping it stand up to nurse. lol. Dude was like who are you. Gentry said the vet. then dude said well who is Wi ah me then. Doc said just a friend that grew up on a dairy farm and does lab work for me. Dude was like well shit give me his number then he is faster. lol If you have never tried a horse and a cow can push really hard durning a contraction and you have to get your timeing right to manage that task. If they push too hard it will come but will break its neck or strangle it in the process. you almost wish you had a third hand. Mouth to nose can be fun too. you ever swollow some of that you never forget it.

I would be more worried if the dog ate some really good chocolate,,something more on the pure side. If there is going to be any reaction,,the first thing you would notice is a shaking of the front legs,,thats how you know the caffeine is getting to them,,then its time to worry.

Years ago, right after Easter, my oldest girl got ahold of some chocolate. We went out for about an hour, and came home to find her in the middle of the bedroom standing over an empty bag of those little chocolate eggs! She ate the foil and everything, poor girl was shaking like a leaf from all the sugar and caffeine I suppose. So we fed her, and took her for a walk.......a three hour walk! She was just so full of energy, poor thing. She made a full recovery by morning though.......

CB, she should be just fine. It takes a LOT of milk chocolate (aka hershey's kisses & the like) to cause an ill reaction in a dog. It's the baker's chocolate that causes the most worry as it only takes a small amount to do the same damage.

She might have some upset stomach (diarrhea :D ), but other than that should be feeling & acting normal.

Last Halloween, Wrigley got into the leftoevers & helped himeself to 11 different chocolate candy bars & 1 bag of peanut M&Ms. I wasn't so much worried about that as I was about the fact that he tore open a bag of dog food & ate & ate & ate....... My husband called me at work, told me what happened, & then rushed him up to me. By the time he got there he was as happy as could be with a huge, distended abdomen. I did tube him to get him to throw it all up but moreso b/c of the food issue & the worry of bloat, not the chocolate. And true to form, he had some diarrhea but that was about it.

Since it's been a few days, how is she doing?
