well, thank the good Lord, it has just been reported that all but one of the dogs seized off of mike vicks property will be able to be adopted or used for law enforcement. this is certainly a big victory in a case that has garnered so much negative attention for our beloved breed. God Bless!

Well.. its good news, I hope they screen the hell out of the people they are planning on adopting them out to. Because all we need to do is to have them stick one of those dogs with someone who doesn't need this breed and then hey come home to a dead poodle or something because they don't keep the dog contained and seperate.... but lets hope they're a bit smarter.

    ditto to this....

  4. I don't know if that decision not to euth those dogs has to do more with the high profile of the case...or the internet petition that I signed (lol). Seriously, I hope that those dogs just demonstrated rock solid temperments, and can be used as a testament to that great quality of this breed. That being said, if the are being adopted put because they are great dogs it is my hope that the media highlights that with a fraction of the spotlight that was shown at the beginning of the case. Also as NCPrisonguard said screen the hell out of the adoption applicants. I don't want to see a website popping up in a few months peddling dogs bred off of the Mike Vick dogs (I know they'll most likely be fixed, but people will lie about it) or ads showing up on hoobly talking about Vick bloodliens. Someone will be trying to capatilize monitarily in any way possible.

yeah, it's definitely a mixed blessing...It's good because it shows that they can be great dogs...but like NC said, if they get the wrong people to adopt them who know little about the breed, then it just might end up biting us in the behind.

i have evry confidence that the people who are going to be adopting out these dogs are going to be very biased about who gets one. it might be for more selfish reasons like how it would look if they adopted out the dogs to someone who turned around and used them for fighting, but it still is a good thing in my opinion. seeing dogs put down because of irresponsible owners really is heartbreaking.

I'd rather see them put down than on the news because of an irresponsible person got one and it kills a neighbor's dog or something or the sort.

I'm not afraid it will go to someone who will fight it. I am afraid it will go to someone who doesn't know much about the breed, and thinks, "hey I will just leave it with this other dog," and when that other dog gets killed, they act like "how in the world?" or something along those lines...

But I agree it's better than seeing them put down because of an irresponsible owner, for sure...

I hope they try to educate the adopters as much as possible, if not, make sure it goes to another APBT owner.

I dont know why but I have this feeling that they are going to be sure these dogs go to someone who knows the breed inside/out. I could be wrong, but it's just a feeling i'm getting on this.

Well, then if that is the case, then it will be a full blessing.

we'll have to wait and see about this one. i'm optimistic though. i think it goes without saying that whoever does get these dogs is going to need to have full knowledge of the breed and of their propensity towards extreme animal aggression. but the article i read said all of the dogs were tested and qualified by animal behaviorists. seems they would understand the need for proper placement of these dogs. we'll see...... :)

    Very good to hear. :)

  13. i agree 100% on this. ya know i'm never one to cry govt conspiracy on stuff, but this is just almost too good to be true. i mean has anybody ever heard of a yard full of dogs getting confiscated and this number of them being certified adoptable? i mean doesn't this just seem odd. don't get me wrong, i'm glad for the dogs. It just seems like it's too good to be true. Is it a set up to put these dogs in the wrong hands and then say....see look at the bad pitbulls. these were even certified adoptable! makes me wonder.

I have mixed emotions...they do need to screen the hell out of applicants..but my question is, how far will they do that. If they don't do it enough, obviously it will end up in the wrong hands. Or, on the flip side, they will stay in the shelter most of their lives why they wait for the better owners...

  15. LMAo..I was wondering when someone going to say SOMETHING regarding it not being legit....

I am not thinking quite like you are BUT....

I AM thinking that dogs that were used to fight....(they have already stated that they CANNOT be trusted) in which WE ALL know better...BUT
they are making them pass DA tests too...so how in the HELL did they manage that.......
    Makes me wonder too!
I am not holding my breath......
And I have been taught not to count my chicken before they hatch....
and I have been told that people these days, only do good for others for THIER OWN PERSONAL reasons, for them to gain something upon.....

are they going to be put online like most other society/shelters do?
or are they going to be kept in the "back room" lol

im happy for the dogs but that is wierd.
you'de think they would have strict guidlines on weather the adoptee had other animals or not.

    screenings SHOULD be tuff.

Remember that "Real Sports" bullshit. They Euthed every one of those dogs. Even the AB with cropped ears. Something is CERTAINLY fishy here.

you know, i can understand peoples varying feelings about this, but to say this is a setup is just absurd. i'm surprised more people aren't happy for the dogs. it should be touted as a success story of how apbts AREN'T turncoats and CAN be rehabilitated. i for one am definitely hoping these dogs get a second chance to put the stereotypes in the ground and prove to people how amazing our breed is. i agree whole heartedly that there needs to be extensive background checks on anyone wishing to adopt one of these dogs. but if it is done properly, i think the outcome is going to be more positive oress. and that is something our breed so desperately needs.

    press.....oops

  20. Well first of all, I never said I wasnt happy for the dogs....IF this is IS TRUE....and completely HARMLESS...then GREAT, but I dont feel as though it is....
Just because we fell like there is something wrong/fishy does not mean that we arent happy when it actually does happen...or in this case, if it is true....
Something does not seem right here with this case....we (most of us) have seen the same thing with other dogs, and the turn out was quite different....
Because the dogs could not pass the DA test.....now how these did is beyond me...unless he ad a yard full of curs....and from what I understand they killed those...
see where we are coming from?
