I tend to manage my dogs very tightly so I avoid having to discipline. What exactly is he doing that calls for disciplinary action?

isnt the way it works if the owner says no to somthing the dog should stop cause mine has had obedience training one of the things im talking about is when i hose his kennel out he runs in and goes crazy in there after ive told him 1000 times no and very stern he goes out then after a few seconds runs streight back in

1st thing you have an apbt and anything can be a challenge to him.2nd if you are having problems while you clean his kennel put him on a tie out while you do it.3rd he is an apbt fucking shit up is what he does.

    Yup.

By telling him not to do something "a thousand times", yet putting him in the position to do it anyway, you just taught him that what you say isn't relative to his behaviour.

What do you mean he's going in his kennel and going crazy in there? I'm not even sure what you want out of him and sounds like he's not either. Can you explain it more thoroughly?

  7. As usual it appears as though it's an inexperienced owner not an unruly dog.

I myself really prefer not to smack my dogs. He is young though and full of piss and vigor and probably a spazz as they all tend to be and it can be frustrating. lol Is this the only time he gets all nutty in his kennel... just after you spray it out? I'm assuming you mean a crate? If this paticular situation is getting him all riled up, maybe try to set up an alternative situation. I know it seems like he SHOULD listen, but I tell ya... one of the major mistakes I made with my first dog was expecting too much out of her and thinking she should know better when really, I was just setting her up to lose, I'd get frustrated, reprimand her and it just wound up damaging our relationship, setting her back, etc... Obedience is over rated if it's negatively affecting your relationship IMO.

If you want him to stop displaying the behaviour, you have not not put him in the position to display it so it has a chance to extinguish. You have to break the association. Find a way to either contain him while you do it... a second crate, a tie up, leave him in the house, don't allow him to SEE you spraying it out if that is what gets him all over stimulated. Maybe give him a fat bone to chew on while you do it so it is way less interesting. lol There are so many ideas... you just have to be creative. lol How much exercise is he getting? Maybe after you spray it out, and you've kept him from going in it by an alternative method of confinement take him for a flirt pole session and wear the stink out of him so when it's time to go in the crate he's too pooped to spazz out. lol

I'm assuming you are spraying it out because he soiled it so are maybe already frustrated at this point? If I am working with a dog that isn't fully trained to eliminate outside and will go in the crate, of course first things first, I up the amount of times they are having access to eliminate as a preventative. But I always use two crates so say they soil their crate, I remove the dog, wash the dog off as needed, dry them off, stick them in the clean crate THEN attend to the messy crate. If he spazzes out after you wash him and put him in the second crate, see the first paragraphs. lol

I don't know... I hope that helps. Hard to give advice sometimes if you are not there and seeing the whole situation play out. lol

this is the only way to do it. tie his ass down while your cleaning and eventually he will get it.

Would you mind explaining what kind of kennel you're talking about, why you're hosing it out, and what you mean by "going crazy," and why you just can't otherwise restrain/control the dog?

I'm asking, because on the face of it,...it does sound like one of those don't have a clue owners thinking their dog understands logic type situations.......

try speaking spanish or german to him. or use common sense & put him away when you clean up.

Could it be your Dog does not like the new smell being introduced into his kennel. I have had Dogs in the past ,and have one now who hates new bedding etc, as soon as he smells it he snort`s and huffs and rolls about on his back to re-cent it. Just a thought !
