I'm glad you came to a conclusion on your dilemma Marty. But I'd be watching that dog with both eyeballs b/c once they do it once, you can bet they'll do it again some time down the road.

If it were my dog, he's be in doggy heaven. I know it's hard to do but I found this part particularly disturbing:

WTF??? A "little altercation???" The word "altercation" leads me to believe it was not a simple re-direct snap, but that he was fighting you. If he was, he'd be gone city, no questions asked. Man-biters & esp. man-fighters need to find a better place than this world (i.e. heaven).

Just b/c he didn't like what you did was no excuse for him to have an altercation with you. I've done plenty of things my dogs didn't like & never had an altercation.

Example 1: I had an accident & one was in a bad way. I went to break them & as soon as I grabbed the top dog, he re-directed on my hand, leaving a small bleeding wound. I hollered & as soon as he knew it was me he opened up his mouth with a quickness. There was no "altercation" with me, although he did began struggling at the other dog. He was in pain - even a bit shocky - but never did he try to put his mouth on me again.

Example 2: I had an accident. This was back when I heard "it all it how you raise them" () & had 2 male bulldogs tie up in the house. In my ignorance, I did not have a break stick at the time. So I used all the old wives tales I had heard to break my bigger male off the downed smaller one. I finally I decame desperate pulled out the big guns. I held a lit match to the dog's butt hole. Guess what? Bet he didn't like that, but he didn't bite me! That didn't work, so I got a bic lighter & singed all the hair off his balls! Guess what? I bet he didn't like that, but he didn't bite me. And I'm sure both were more painful than getting sntached up by the nape of the neck.

I dunno. This is a judgement call for you as he is your dog. But I am sure you have heard this old saying ...

"An Arab & his camel were caravaning in the desert. The sun went down & the desert began to get cold. The camel begged his master 'Master, it is cold out here & I serve you well. Please just let me put my head in the tent to help keep warm.' The Arab didn't see the harm in it & agreed. After a night of good sleep they were up & on their way.

The next night, after night fall, the camel said 'Master, it is cold out here & I serve you well. Please just let me put my head & neck in the tent to help keep warm.' The Arab didn't see any harm in it & agreed. After a night of good sleep they were up & on their way.

The next night, after night fall, the camel said 'Master, it is cold out here & I serve you well. Please just let me put my head, neck & upper body in the tent to help keep warm.' The Arab didn't see the harm in it & agreed. After a night of good sleep they were up & on their way.

The next night, after night fall the camel said 'Master, it is cold out here & I serve you well. Please just let me put my head, neck & whole body in the tent to keep warm.' The Arab didn't see any harm in it & agreed. once inside, the camel turned to the Arab & said 'Thank you for your kindness Master. Now get out of my F'ing tent!'"

Moral of the story - little things left unchecked can slowly grow into big things & you may not like the result!

Either way, whatever you choose I hope everything turns out for the best.

    Good luck!

i understand everyones worries but some dogs tend to see what they can get by with,,, being a housedog is let get more timid because you do care alot for them and tend to be lax on the rules towards them sometimes,,

i fear no dog ,, and the second one challenges me,, well they learn who the alpha dog is and it doesnt happen again,, they are dogs and they arent humans,,, they arent perfect, each has theyre own quirks,,, some desireable and some not,, they have to be taught the not desireable ones,,,be that as it may it does happen, they try theyre luck sometimes ,,

you take one of the meanest dogs you can find and in 20-30 minutes i can have it laying in my lap,,,

I didnt read what everyone else has suggested to you. Marty I wouldn't put that ol dog down for being a bulldog. The solution is simple, Crate and rotate. An for christ sake...stop putting your arm in his mouth...lol.

I thought bulldogs weren't supposed to bite people, let alone have altercations with them...

OK here it is... I know this dog like the back of my hand, I've raised him from 6 weeks old, we play ruff together all the time and he does scratch me with his teeth at times, when Lilbit rushes through the door I always grab her but this night Rufus was closer so I grabbed him kinda ruff and he made a low growl so I got ruff with him to let him know who's boss and even twisted his skin hard to let him know... he didn't bite me if he had I would have been posting a RIP thread... he scratched me with his teeth was all... sorry I'm not very good at wording things and had been drinking when I made this post, so it's all good don't worry about it, hell I know these dogs like the back of my hand ;)

Hope this help's you'll understand more clearly what happened :o

If I put a dog down for every time I felt teeth, I'd have no dogs.

Seriously, no one else was there but Marty and I'd say he has just a FEW years of experience on all of us.

There is a big difference between aggression and excited biting or nipping. BIG difference. Putting a dog down is a big deal, and shouldn't be taken lightly.

Wtf... Marty said the dog growled at him before he " scratched marty with his teeth".... Yall take up for these kinda dogs if u want to... And your right, marty has a lot of experience and he knows what's should be done... He just doesn't want to give up on the years of attachment with this dog... My opinion

So the dog growled, this is how an animal communicates along with physical prowess. Since when did being a bulldog negate the fact that the dog is an animal first? I am not excusing bad behavior from a crazed dog that cannot be trained either. (a true manbiter)

All dogs will bite, we are concerned as to why they would make this move. Just because a dog is born an APBT does not mean it comes into this world as this "perfectly behaved dog"...we the humans make them this way. Legacy dogs were bred to perpetuate a dog that could be "handled" during a dog fight....why, because all of the dogs attention(drive) was directed at the opponent, the stronger the drive the easier to handle. This does not make them model citizens outside of that environment. As a matter of fact a game dog is going to have drive, that means he is going to challange, often...it means great care and consistency must be put into their training. It means an APBT MUST have a strong leader, or the dog will take leadership. How the legacy fighting dog being bred for handling while facing an opponent became a romantisized vision of a PB by it's very nature not behaving like a working dog with drive escapes me.

It's always hard to put down any dog, let alone a house dog you have grown very attached to. I remember one time I once had a house dog who had a raw spot on their foot. I cleaned it, dried it & when I went to squeeze the foot dry, the dog grabbed my hand with their mouth as if to say "Hey! That hurts!" The dog didn't bite down, didn't leave a mark or even leave any saliva on my hand, but I still was heading for the rifle. I look at it like this - better to cull hard, so as to better the gene pool & make the world a safer place for yourself & others than cull loosely, leave man-biters &/or man-fighters alive to risk the safety of yourself, others & the breed.

    JMHO on this of course.

(BTW - in case any one is wondering, the abovementioned dog in my post was not PTS. My husband saved it.)

Look CLKENNELS I had a guy give me a dog one time papers and all, all I had to do was come get him... he was the kind of dog that would eat your ass up on a chain, it took me two hrs to get the dog off the chain and get him in the car,The dog was all about eating my ass up, I took him home and he got off the chain one day and went to the house next door and tried to jump the fence to get there dogs I grabbed for his collar and missed and got his skin he turned to bite me and I tried again and got his collar, you see I know these dogs and what there about hell I've took care of over 100 24/7 for my mentor and in over 25 yrs never been bitten... I'm not a newbie to the game and as I said I know this dog like the back of my hand so it's all good ;)

So yes your entitled to your opinion :p

Marty, Im not arguing with you, just your posts... If you go back and look at my posts you will see i was all for letting the dog live until i went back and re-read the OP... It just seemed like when you clarified the situation you were making excuses for the dog... My dogs wont growl at me and if they do bie me they sure as hell better have not made eye contact with me first... I did see the pictures of the dog with your kids so i would say if he's this sensitive to being roughed up a little, you should keep him away from the kids....
