Dead Fleas on the CHEAP!

I would like to share on flea control. Last spring we had the flea infestation like none ever. I was told about "BAYER 12 MONTH TREE AND SHRUB INSECT CONTROL" it comes in a blue quart plastic container and can be purchased at Lowes for less that $20.

It has the same active ingredient as "ADVANTAGE" and it is applied the same, right down the middle of the back. It only requires 2cc per 10lbs of the dogs body weight and it is used once a month.

This really works my flea problem disappeared for good in less than a week, not to mention any ticks that I find on my dogs are always dead. I used it on 6 week old pups with no issues at all. I have had the same container for almost a year, it works great and saves lots of $$$

Just as a side note the Insect Control formula is not as readily available as it used to be, they changed the formula to a protect & feed and it now contains products that are hazardous to your dogs health. The original Insect Control formula can still be purchased in 1 gallon containers for use by landscapers but can be very hard to find. There are other products with the same exact ingredients that can be purchased more readily if needed such as Ortho Tree & Shrub and Gordon's Tree & Shrub. I would suggest that if you are not comfortable using a product off label or are unsure how to use it, then it is always best to go to your vet and purchase regular flea & tick products.

No need to freak out !!
A simple search would reveal what "WE" that use it the product already know.

Its the same stuff, the primary inerts are waterba and are of no more concern then useing the the designated products active ingredeant

  4. Last year we had a terrible problem with fleas and it really pissed me off. We tried everything you could buy, nothing seemed to work. So I got a bug guy to come in and spray the yard every other week, that worked. The fleas were coming in on the squirrels the guy said. We tried everything else but nothing seemed to work. We still have that guy come out and spray our kennel yard and everyone is happy! Turns out best $35 a month I spent.

My post wasn't really aimed toward those of us (including you) that already use it. It was aimed at those that don't. The new version called protect & feed has fertilizers in it and is not the same product. These fertilizers are hazardous to animals. That is why I offered other brands that are the same as the original version.

TNK what you fail to realize is that the majority of the people that read this do not know. And if you are going to give advice make sure it is correct. Also realize that you are using it off label. The product of which you speak of is not available (Bayer Tree and Shrub) it now is Protect and Feed in the quart sized bottle. Which will Kill your dog.

The product I quoted is still on the shelves at the two local Lowe's in my area.It is most likely still on the retail market at other vendors as well.
My advise is therefore very much legit and or correct.
If someone chooses to "assume" then its their responsibility as with anything else.

Appreciate the current update on this product

I saw Bayer tree and shrub at lowes like 3 months ago looking for it after I read about it in Smilewiper's Book, same ingredients as he listed....I didn't use it, but found with little effort. (Keep in mind, that was 3 months ago).:)

It may have been on the shelves several months ago (and could be still if you are very lucky) as this change was made early spring of this year, If you purchased it recently I would check the label carefully as it is probably the Bayer Tree & Shrub Protect and Feed which includes the fertilizer. I have contacted Bayer directly as I was looking for it myself and the product has been taken off the market other than the landscape formula and what was left on the shelves from last year. If you are lucky enough to have found the original formula, I would buy as many as you can because they won't be there much longer. So there is no assumption on my part and to be perfectly direct with you I only posted this as a warning to be careful so that someone's dog wouldn't have to suffer and to offer other products that could be used and are readily available. Take it for what you will, I was not trying to discredit your information in any way.

After a bit of research I've come across and tested an inexpensive, high quality means of flea control. It is pretty common knowledge that Frontline is the primo means of controlling fleas. It outperforms Advantage by a significant margin. However, it is too expensive for large yards. Frontline typically costs $20-$30 per dog when purchased from your vet.
After a bit of research I found that the active ingredient, fipronil, is also used in a termite treatment called Termidor SC. This product is available online in 20 ounce bottles for $62.95. Go to http://www.pestproductsonline.com/products/Termidor_SC_20_oz-14-0.html
    to purchase.
To use, measure in a syringe and drop it on your dogs back starting between the shoulder blades and work your way back. Be sure to apply in areas that your dog cannot lick.
I treated more than 100 dogs with 1 bottle. In fact, given the conversion ratio of 28.4131 ml per fluid ounce, you should be able to treat about 10 44-88 lb dogs per ounce of termidor, or 200 dogs per 20 ounce container. At a typical vet cost of $25 per dog, you can save over $4900 with a single container of Termidor!

    Dose it as follows:
    45-88 lbs 2.7 ml
    23-44 lbs 1.4 ml
    00-22 lbs .7 ml
You can expect high quality flea control for at least a month using this product in this manner. Feel free to crosspost this wherever it might do some good! Tom G.

No you did not differentiate between the 2. And because of that it can kill others dogs. You need to be careful when posting things online. In many markets here and in GA you can not get it without the protect and feed in the quart.

GAPITS told of other products with the same ingredients as Bayer Tree and Shrub.

Ortho Tree & Shrub and Gordon's Tree & Shrub.

Comfortis is what you are talking about. It does work very well for fleas but nothing for ticks. We have many clients that dogs have Flea Allergy Dermatitis and it has done wonders for them.
