I've been reading around the site and I have a couple questions. First off I have a 9 week old Red-Nosed pit named Lexus. I'll get pics up sometime. The mother was miniature pit(or so i'm told she was miniature, she was pretty small), and the father was full blooded red-nosed. Anyhoo, is there a such thing as miniature pit? I heard somewhere that there is no such thing and "mini" pits are just German pits given alcohol and as they are bred they get smaller. lol

Also, when do you think she will "understand" her name? She kind of responds to her name but not all the time. Especially when we're outside and she's doing her business she finds leaves and plays with them. She's a little to pre-occupied to hear me so I have to go steal the leaf from her.

Last question, She's not barking too much now... Is that normal? She barks like, once a week lol. Sorry for the Newbish questions. Just lookin for info

P.s. she's pretty good with other dogs and kids right now, She was kind of scared of my buddy's German Shepherd but she gets along find with my 2 dogs, my sisters dog and my buddy's Lab. Oh, and she gets along very well with my g/f's cat.

First off, Welcome to the forum. Best place to learn and your going about it right asking detailed questions. As for all your questions...

No..."mini pit" is not true at all. Further, "Red nosed" is not a bloodline either. It only describes a dogs nose color-nothing more.

Her name? She will understand it soon, just keeping saying it and she'll catch on quickly. Shes still a very young puppy and its natural for her to get pre-occupied with fascinating leaves....LOL . Even adult dogs get suckered in by those darn playful leaves.

Barking? Thats not a bad thing at all! APBT's make terrible guard dogs you will come to notice unless trained to act in that manner (not a good idea).

Getting along with other dogs? Thats great....HOWEVER, you may want to "keep her for yourself" so to speak until she is fully vaccinated so she does not catch another dogs diseases. Dogs at that age are very susceptible to diseases and viruses and its best to not introduce them to any danger areas until fully vaccinated. You will find she does get along great with humans in general, and the baby also. Actually, APBT's were commonly called the "nanny breed" because they take after little kids like they are their own puppies. Still, its not a good idea to leave a child with ANY breed of dog unsupervised...Your new breed will probably be extremely playful when it matures and tend to get worked up jumping and knock a baby or small child over. For other dogs....I'm glad she has taken a liking to them and socialization is key for all developing dogs. I suggest you keep her away from other dogs until she is fully vaccinated (just in case) but from then on socialize her all you can. She is still a pitbull however and when she grows up the odds are against you that she will fight, even if she doesnt start it. The golden rule every pitbull owner needs to remember is "Never trust a pitbull not to fight". They are ALL descendants of fighting dogs in some way, this means dog-aggression it is still there and should be understood. Dog-aggression in this breed is to be expected to some degree and is totally diffrent from human-aggression. What I mean is because a dog fights other dogs does NOT mean it will "turn" on its owner or want to fight a human. You will learn more about this I'm sure reading the forum.

Overall, just welcome and you've come to the best place to learn. Thanks for the introduction and we hope you enjoy your time here. If you have any questions that can't be answered with the "search" function of the board....dont be afraid to ask them, no matter how "silly" you may think they are. Everyone needs to learn somewhere. Just keep an open mind with all things and understand the people on this board know what they are talking about...and have been in the dogs for 20-30-40 + years! If you have any other questions you may PM me whenever you would like, and I'm sure other members would be willing to help you out also. Best of Luck, and post some pics in the Gallery of your new girl ;) !
