i cant help but say how much i agree on how different an asphalt fight is than a mat fight

jui jitsu for the most part doesnt work on the street
the "gaurd" is completey useless on the asphalt, and BJJ is lacking in stand up holds, being a ground game and all

and are you gunna try submitting someone when you have the mount??? doubt it

on the street - its all about boxing and greco roman wrestling

unless your a punk with a weapon- I like to keep it man to man personally/

Well, in my younger days I was into powerlifting. Wasnt overweight a bit like most of them are, but since I got hurt man I have got fat and my blood pressure is like 179 over 98!! I have started taking some natural stuff to help, and joined a gym to try and get back into shape. I swim a few laps most every day. Eating better, raw veggies, chicken, and low to no fat stuff. Trouble in the gym for me is that with this artificial hip I am scared of messing it up, so deep squats are very questionable, and I have some messed up discs in my back, so basically I am stuck with the machines. I am hoping that by losing this gut and strengthening my back and stomach it will help keep my back together.

On a side note, I spent half of my life locked up in one place or another, so I have been in many scraps, and all I can say now is that someone wants to throw down, they better come serious, cause I am packing nowdays. You've always heard that an old man will just shoot you, and I understand now! I got one of them .22mag "hey boys", and I can hit an apple at 25 yards with it, and I aint gona talk about the .45. LOL
When I was in the army, we learned that there were only two kinds of fighters, not the big and the little, but the quick and the dead.

BTW, any of you knowledgeable folks who could give me advice about how to work around this hip would be appriciated. It is nice to see so many folks here trying to improve their health. What really sucks is that when I was a drunk, I had no beer belly, but it seems that it snuck up on me after I quit!!lOL Maybe it was because I drank WAY more fluids then than I do now.

There are lots of low impact exercises you can do and work around the hip. The problem is, everyone is different so you have to get in there and figure it out. Just take it easy, try not to go overboard, and find what makes you comfortable while doing what its supposed to do at the same time. Maybe talk to a personal trainer. They are expensive as all get out, but you may be able to swindle some free advice as to where to start. Good luck Purple! More power to ya. :D

If you cant squat maybe you could do deadlifts instead? Deadlifts work the whole body but mainly the back. I cant imagine doing those big lifts though with a hip replacement though:confused:
Careful though they are very easy to do wrong.

  10. on the street, i get mount, im dropping elbows(not gonna hurt my hands). wouldnt try for a straight arm, thats for sure. bjj for me, is get to the ground, get mount, make em give their back, and choke.

but in the street, id rather get in the clinch and use elbows/knees...avoid the ground if possible.

Fights in the street aren't fair and size plays a huge role. When you have someone that weighs 250lbs of pure power and a hand made of solid lead, you're in trouble. If that man is also packing 28 rounds of .40 S&W to boot, then you're really in trouble.

Now if I were to go wrestle someone with a ref, I'd be in a world of hurt.

that 250 pound man will do exactly what i said, gas out in under a minute and get picked apart by someone that trains regularly. weight can be manipulated, big and small men can easily be thrown to the ground and either beaten or submitted, the only hope one would have is to pull the weapon and shoot but then you are a straight cur.

most people i know that dont train could'nt shadow box for 5 minutes straight without practically falling out from under themselves. i dismantled someone in 4 minutes sparring saturday cause once those legs give out you're done. FYI im not trying to toot my own horn here my coach almost knocked me out twice yesterday, what im trying to say is most people just dont realize that brute strength and lead fists dont get you very much further than a quick knockout, if you cant make that connection happen fast you will gas out and get handled by someone who is conditioned and well versed in MMA.

Well, you can call me a straight cur then, cause I am too broken down to handle someone like I used to! Heck even back in the day I found myself in several situations where there were too many to manhandle at once. I have always believed in equalizers.

If I wasnt packin, I'd grab that throat tube and crush it. Game over.

im talking about someone well capable enough of defending himself. someone who would engage in a fight, then decide to use the gun as was previoulsy suggested. that is bullshit. if you want to fight, fight. gang banging curs shoot eachother.

if someone were to attack someone such as yourself, who couldnt do anything but shoot in defence then id expect you to shoot. also, if more than one are coming at you, what the hell else would you do? im no bruce lee id shoot them too!

But you have to realize how long the average street fight lasts. What? 3 minutes tops before it's broken up. The adrenaline rush would still be going strong and I don't think wind is gonna be a factor. I'm not a fighter and hate confrontations so if I'm squaring off, someone just done f*cked up in a bad way and are gonna be in a world of hurt one way or another.

3 minutes of fighting is a longgg time. I probably couldnt do 6 minutes on a mat right now. I would be pukin:o

The average street fight lasts less than 30 seconds... In most cases, its over within 10 seconds. Talk is cheap. Anyone can do that. If you want my respect in the street, make my mouth bleed and you'll have it. Otherwise you're just bumping gums. I agree with curs bringing guns to a fist fight being bullshit!

I got ya. Sorry I took it the wrong way. I WAS the first one to mention the pocket cannons I believe. I dont go lookin for trouble, I used to, but all that piss and vinegar is out of my system.

What I have found to be curish in the younger generation is these punks that will talk trash, and then feel like you did them wrong when you slap the crap out of them. When I grew up, you were required to back up what you spoke. Now, there is just simply no respect, and if you defend yourself, they try to sue you!!

no worries bro and you're right, punks today have no respect and dont back up the shit they talk, especially city kids. im from the woods and we fought eachother with our fists and when it was over we shook hands and had a beer. nobody got taken to court or called the law either.
