I want to know if there is anyone willing to help me rebuild my history collection. I had a ton of pdf's and pages saved to my pc, and it took a shit on me. I took it to a computer stoer to see if the files can be saved and added to a new pc. I really hope that I am able to get some of my things back. If there is anyone that has or knows where to get some of this info back, please either let me know, or pm me with info. I really hope I can get some of this back. I thank anyone in advance for their help.

Also - links to sites that may have some of the info I lost are welcome, if not against rules.

had the same problem a few years ago, a good computer tech will be able to save all your info if the hard drive is still good
he/she just has to put the old hard drive into a different computer or put all your files , links etc.. on discs
most times the mother board or power unit fails before the hard drive does, once the hard drive is salvageable you will get all your info back

  3. Yep what cromsboss said. If you know anything about computers it ain't hard. Take the hard drive out of your junk computer. Buy an external enclosure for it. This will hook up to your new computer through USB. Plug it in, let it load, and wha la. You can click on "my computer" and click on the second hard drive and browse files in it just like always on your computer. As long as the hard drive is what went to shit on the old computer it's pretty simple. If it's junked out most computer shops should still be able to get data off it. Depends on how much you wanna spend.

The external drives are pretty cheap off ebay. Most of em come from china but they are dirt cheap compared to buying them in a store locally.

Thanks for the info. I hope they can recover it. I just know how to use the computer, and not too great at that. Pretty much what happened is the thing would not power up all the way. Would go to a safemode start up and fail. I guess it sounds like a power unit/motherboard. I have my fingers crossed.

B - Good tips. The external unit sounds good. Can you have one and just keep all the info on there? that may be a good way to keep info, uncase it happens again, and it will probably make the computer work better with less stuff on it. Good tips . I have my fingers crossed.

Been going to the library to get on couple times a day.lol..
They aint open for early am coffee though, so I cant get on before work like I always do.
Gonna have to work for now. I just need to get a darn phone that can log in to the site..lol

You can have as many external hard drives as you want with whatever on them. One for your music, one for your history collection, one for personal pictures....etc...You just plug it in to add/edit/view info, then unplug when you're done!
