so for thsoe who show their dogs in these registries how do you decide what collar colors and leads will go best with what color dog? are there proven combinations anyone experienced uses? :D

what about buckskin or brown dogs?

  4. jay if you go look in my gallery you can see the nylon stillwater show collars i use. at the next show i'm going with the new leather show collars. i think as long as you don't use a really wide one it shouldn't affect you. definitely stay away from anything 2" as it hinders the judge from seeing the neck. that is why i even went down from the 1 1/2" nylone to the 1" leather. not to mention the color does look very good with both lizzy and bronson. i use black leads always.

How about see-through collars? seems like it would save alot of time trying to match your dog. YUP:D

I used to be all about bright red nylon for Loki. But now for ADBA shows, I just go with a good natural leather.

    What he said.;)
I was showing a dog once in a very fancy tooled leather collar and got told to "ditch the fancy collar".
Really the collar and leash should disappear - too wide is definately a no no and I hear judges telling people about this all the time. Your dog looks like it has no neck and length of neck is important to the standard.
I am using 1" to 1 1/2" black leather for all my show collars now and black leather or nylon leads, 4 foot of course.

Personally though, I like chartreuse or white on black, orange on red or chocolate, dark brown on buckskin.:p

want me to throw in the see-through muzzle?
Thats right....make your dogs bite harmless without letting others know it!

Use a 1 inch collar on them, they can see the neck better than a 2inch one...I've not really noticed if the color matters. I use a very contrasting color so it draws their attention to my dog and not the person beside me.

do the 1" collars choke the piss out of your dogs when theyre tugging around the ring?

Thinking about it I think the show people always used the 1" and doggers seem to just bring their everyday dirty 2" they wear on the chain, just personal preference I guess. 2" is just part of bulldog gear to me, it's just what looks right on these dogs

    just preference

  16. lol i don't know ask bronson when he's pulling my big ass all over the place on the 1st! he is king kong if you ask him when he's at the shows! i know what you mean about the 2" collars. for tying out dogs they are definitely the way to go IMO.

A judge mentioned that a 2" collar distorts the look of the dog's neck, that's why I go with a 1". My dog's not a big puller at the shows, though. Unless there are mice in the building, like there always seem to be at the Kellyville shows.

I always just use what ever collar is around my dogs neck at the time, meaning a beat up, dirty 2" collar. If I think about it I'll clean the collar before the show.
