Clubs in Oklahoma?

I'm new to this forum, I thought that I'd introduce myself and then post my question. I'm in Oklahoma and have a male APBT pup who will be 6 months on the 7th of Feb. He is getting neutered on Mon. I was wondering if there are any weight pull clubs in Ok, and if altered animals are allowed to compete. I would like my boy, Jaha, and I to have something that we can compete in and have fun. I was also curious on what paticular tests need to be done at the vets in order to be sure that he is well enough off to participate in these events. I also wanted to know if there is someone in OK that willing to meet with me and my pup to discuss futher training and related topics about weight pulls. Geeze, I guess that is alot of questions! Thanx to everyone who responds!

Here is the most recent pic of my pup taken on our trip to Padre Island to visit family. That is my brother holding him:

Here is a cute pic of him the day that we got him:

More pics of Jaha are at: http://cyberpawz.com/coppermine/thumbnails.php?album=796 in case anyone is interested.

Oh, one more question. I was wondering about registration as far as weight pulls go. Like, who I would need to do this with so that he may compete. Thankies!

Well.....1st off I have some bad news for you. You cannot compete in any ADBA sanctioned events with an altered dog.

If you still want weight pull info. the Green Country APBT club is holding a fun show Feb 19. There will be folks there that will ba glad to help you. Here is a link to their site for information http://www.greencountryapbtclub.com/show_events.htm

There is also the APA (American Pulling Alliance). You can pull all breeds of dogs and mixes. You can also pull altered dogs. Here is a link to the APA site.

That's a shame to me, that you can't compete with an altered dog. I don't see what difference it would make. Anyway, cute little guy.

I don't either... :( but I guess it limits me on which clubs I can do the pulls in. 'Cus he is going to be neutered, no question on that. I don't need any little Jaha's, LOL. Especially since my neighbors don't belive in spaying their dogs.

Depending on the area in Oklahoma there is also the 89ers ADBA club out of Oklahoma city..

I live in Oklahoma, and don't do the weight pull, but am active in confirmation.. Hit me on PMs and we'll compare notes and see how far away from each other we are..

The fun show in Sapula, OK on Feb 19 would be a great way for you to start meeting people and see how everything goes!

Yup! I just called a contact from the Green Country APBT club and got the times on the fun show for the 19th, so I'm going to be there! :D She said anyone in the green shirts would be more than happy to answer my questions on the weight pulls. :D I'm so excited, LOL. My family is not too enthusiastic, well besides my brothers, on me owning a APBT, so I'm going to enjoy meeting people who do like them. ;)

I thought the show was in Kellyville, OK. I betcha I'm gonna get lost on the way and be late to see the pulls. Mapquest said that they don't have enough information in their system to give me a map. Phooy!

I'll PM you with my location. ;)

Well depending where you are coming from...lol

If you are coming out of OKC on the turnpike its about 30 miles past the toll and its Kellyville/Sapula exit.. when you exit off at the stop sign take a right, go to the next stop sign then take another right.. The creek county fairgrounds are just up the road on the left hand side....!

Not hard to find at all.. You'll learn alot by going to the show and there are usually lots of people to help you out.

The pull was alot of fun! Jaha behaved himself nicely and was such a good boy. I met several people and learned alot about the pulls. On Saturday people usally meet to train dogs and I got invited to bring Jaha along to train! *grins madly* But stupid me forgot to leave my phone # and forgot to get anyones. David (my BF) who came with me was feeling bad so we had to leave before the end of the pulls. :P Now I gotta find the # so I can call and figure it all out. I can't belive I did that. :P I soo excited! Jaha did better than I thought he would and didn't misbehave himself! I was soo certain that he was going to start barking and going crazy, but he just kinda sat there and watched the pulls with me and watched the other dogs. He whined everynow and then but that was it. ;) I'm proud of him!

I'll definatly be going to the one on March 18th! There wasn't as many people as I thought there would be, but they told me that there are usally alot more people at the shows that count rather than the fun shows.

Someone told me to enter him into confirmation as well, but I don't think he would do good in that. He's not tall at all and he is alot shorter and smaller than all the other 6 month olds that were there. He's was 33 lbs at the vets about 3 weeks ago. He's really short and long bodied at the moment, with a big head. I'm hoping he'll get a bit taller. All the other pups in the confirmation were taller, but had smaller heads. Maybe he is just growing weird...

I still have to find that # to call and see if it is still OK to take Jaha to train him where everyone gets together. I still can't belive I forgot that #. *sigh* Hopefully I can find where I put those papers they gave me, I know they were somewhere...

Once I get my pictures developed I post some! I took some while I was at the fun show. :D There was this very pretty bitch, Echo, there. But she didn't like Jaha, she did the pulls like a pro! Very very impressive girl. I took a few shots of her. I hope Jaha has as much drive as she does.

Well the fun show is where to enter them to see how they do. They usually are not really big and its all for fun.. Looking forward to seeing pictures of your girl.. BTW the fun show in March is on the 12th..lol

March 12th not 18th, duh! :P But, yup I planning on going.

Unfortunatly none of my pull pictures turned out. The pull was in a barn and I guess my flash wasn't enough. My pictures of my pup in the barn turned out and one picture of Echo, and one of another dog at the pull. None of them actually pulling! :P I'll post Echo, the other dog, and my pup's pictures from the pull as soon as I get the picture on CD that goes with them. ;D

Echo's not my girl, she was just another dog at the pull that I was impressed by. I'll put her pictue up on here as soon as I get the pictue on CD. I thought she was a male at first! She's big!

Really!? Which were your dogs? I didn't see the whole of the last two weight classes but I saw the first two. What were your dogs names in the pull? I had a ton of fun there, everyone was so nice to me. ;D
