Ok I've been up pushing 20 hours, worked over half of them without a break lol

Chasing dead dogs to an extent is perfectly OK.... wanting tight "so and so" dog is perfectly ok. Getting 7,000 x eli in one ped is perfectly OK. If your dogs fit your yard, purpose, and criteria while being bred as tightly or loosely as you want who the fuck is the next man to say you're doing anything wrong?

I myself am guilty of "chasing dead dogs" obviously the one "you're chasing" was worth you chasing it/trying to reproduce it. I don't see an issue with it as long as you're honest with yourself about what you're breeding, doing, and trying to achieve fuck anyone else and what they say.

 

Which asks the question, are the best dogs of today better than the best dogs of the past or is it just a case of the men behind the dogs being more advanced?

True, the whole idea when making a breeding is to hopefully try & improve on what you have, but, when you choose a dog to base your yard on you are basically chasing this dog, wanting the traits it possesses. Of course, if you had a magic wand you would do that, keep the traits you search for in the dog you are chasing and add in traits that it may lack, that's the whole purpose isn't it. But, and it's a big but, nothing is black & white and humans don't go the text book, most people will still breed the offspring off the dog you are chasing even if they aren't 100% what you aimed to create.

As for if dogs are better, it's really hard to judge with these dogs, as the metric is impossible to judge, it's not like greyhound racing where the stopwatch can show if you're making improvements, in this game it's all subjective and impossible to really prove. Surely the aim is to chase the future, not dead dogs?

 

I remember a legend asking and saying, are these dogs today relevant t in our dogs ? He said not that much so I don't care that much too. It would only if I had sperm of the dog

People sure do like to use dogs that been dead for decades to explain to others what they feed.

"I got eli or I got redboy dogs" etc.

I always say I have geachiman dogs when asked but when they end up saying, "what's that"? I'll just end up saying eli /bolio/ Boyles type dogs to be generic and they're almost always like "oh yea ok". Like they know what I'm talking about Lol.

I typically prefer to just call my dogs geachiman dogs. Eli or bolio aren't even relevant genetically in my dogs and Ron aint had shit to do with my dogs. However, People seem to recognize generic labels rather than a name that unless you are from the southern swamps, probably never even hard of like the Geachiman dogs or unless you've been across from one before..

I got a guy that always used to ask me, "how many times do I have Dirty Mary in my dogs" or "how many times I have this dog or that one in my pedigrees" and I was always like who TF cares or has that kind of time in their day to 1. Even care about that shit to begin with and 2. Sit there and actually count them up on pedsonline. That shit was always goofy to me. Irrelevant and from a breeding standpoint totally irrelevant. Other than nostalgia, I have no idea why people still say they got dogs that been dead for 40 or more years.

 

Tdk used to use the term "key bred".... not too tight, not too loose, using multiple ways crossed and bred off an individual....

That's how I see "my yard"... we're "key bred" on 1 individual but bringing them multiple different ways..

 

I suppose though, in these dogs certain individuals can have quite a strong genetic influence years down the line if the dogs are bred pretty tight, it's not like humans where just about all genetic influence is lost pretty sharp because of admixture.

I remember what @slim12 told about what Mr Mim said about dogs in past and dogs now and agree with that. When he said that people think that when breeder changes and that the blood still stay same but it's not. Because we all have different eyes and we all see things in different ways we all select for different reasons. We can try to think at same way we can do all in possibility to do the same but it wouldn't..

I still remember I readed here some where that if some got 4 dogs from a breeder, and bred the two pairs breeder might would have bred the two pairs the opposite way. @slim12 and more people have said this when you are breeding someone else's dogs of you miss early you miss forever. But you will miss forever. Maybe you will get good dogs they will make you happy but they will be different from the original. Dogs changes true selections. Even if u would have the money the clone a dog you will have a look a like but not a same one.

 

But, if you're basing your yard on a particular dog you only include dogs with the traits you desire for the breeding program? That's the theory, but, as you know, humans often stray from the textbook, people are easily swayed.

 

I see where you want to go but your dogs will change each generation that's why u try to improve always. Different breeders line bred different ways with different cross yet had a single common dog they were all based on.
