Is it fair to that they are/were the most successful line of gamedogs in the UK?

Other camps might say Limey, M Dann or other imports that came after were more successful and there lies a whole new debate, but I think none of them had their oil checked as hard, or at as high a level as the Reid crosses that came out of the north during the 80's to early 90's.. Few northern camps spent huge amounts of cash on dogs, but there was literally hundreds of Reid mutts going around the place, any that became too boisterous or dog aggressive for pet life usually got passed onto a working home, those that failed to make the grade never saw next day and the ones that succeeded were played in the hardest national competition.. I believe Reid's Skipper dogs were an elite strain marinated in gameness, wind, durability and intelligence, IMO the best ones came from the north and often won (or lost game) despite their owners and not 'because' of them..

Tell you what I've noticed lately oldguy ... your interest in these dogs has never faultered over the years Mate and infact it only seems to get better and better ! I remember years ago springview wrote a piece saying all the top bulldog men in this country ( that loved the breed supposedly so much ) didn't know what a bulldog was when they couldn’t make any more money from them ... you my friend are a true dogman and i for one Only come on here to mainly read your posts ...thanks very much for your knowledge and for sharing it with us !

My only motive for joining this board at the start was to challenge the bullshit being written about Reid dogs, mostly by groupies from the Scotsman's Max fan club, so when it got stated (with total authority) Scotsman's Tania was sired by Reid's Skipper and any opinion to the contrary was "total bullshit".. I asked myself, how would he know? I stated from the very start Tania was papered up as being off Reid's Skipper in a misguided attempt to make champions Yogi and Hagar appear more attractive as stud dogs.. Money was motive.. Fact! The same person also tried to cast doubt over the legacy of GR.CH.Bill by questioning the authenticity of one of Bill's opponents (Oz 2xw) win record.. Again I asked myself.. How the fuck does he know?

I saw a small group of UK experts discuss Reid dogs as though champions Max, Yogi, Hagar were the 'ONLY' dogs worthy of mention.. It got to the stage where having Curstopper 3 or 4 generations back in a pedigree (genuine or not) was all you needed to know about Reid dogs.. I've met people who never even knew champions Scar Kennels Max, Sheena Black and Jacko were Reid dogs, that East End Kennels champions Dirty Bertie, Myra and Bella were Reid crosses, or the sire of the greatest pit dog ever in UK was whelped on Ed Reid's yard at Stockquest (GR.CH. Bill).. Gunning's Dutchess, Wigan Boy's Lady, Hell's Jock's CH.Bash, Charlie and Archie, Rayrock's Grizzly, CH. Dread, CH. Rex, CH. Billy, CH. Buck and the dogs off Jones' Scrapper, Xara, GR.CH. Shelley and any others maybe I forgot in the moment.

Reid dogs more than deserve their place in history, but it has to be real and not biased or blinkered hearsay repeated by some awe struck Scotsman's Max groupies.. The American's, Irish and EU members probably tired of me constantly hijacking good threads to rant about Reid dogs each time the subject arises, truth is I'm hardly interested in them anymore, just passionate that their legacy should be honestly and respectfully remembered in gamedog history.

  17. tell me this how come you never stayed with the reid dogs you didn't change lines did you, as far as I know there's only one working line close to reid dogs and there from harry rom who is coming down from scotsmans max dogs not any other line of reid dogs still working maybe a dog here and there , to me you sound sour grapes about the max line of dogs there people still working this line so cant say to much and before you start you fan boy shite , fuck it I will leave at that

Back in the day I always thought that the limey dogs,spike/nelis/ tug matings came second to the Reid dogs in the UK and Ireland. Just my opinion from what I learned at the time.
